But how do i actually ask the owner for the car and drive it to the workshops to get the checks done, I don't think the owner would actually allow that right? is the RAA Total care inspection any good?

And btw is the regency inspection = to road worthy cert?

thats a pretty big call to make mate....my series 1 begs to differ to your theory :)

Series ones are getting old these days but i love them (hence why i have one).....if i were you mate i would take it to boost worx or willall racing or southern hitech or graham west workshop or morpowa or fours and more.....well take it to one of those workshops mentioned and get them do check it all out for ya mate....compression and leak down tests are a must AFAIK

Goodluck with how you go in getting your pride and joy mate :)

Anyone can clear my doubts?

When I sold my 34 GTR, the buyer wanted me to drive the car across to the other side of town to his mate's workshop for a complete going over.

I had nothing to hide so I obliged him.......even if it did cost me approx 3 hours of my time.

In the end, if someone is serious about selling their ride and the buyer seems legit and not just a tyre kicker, it's just the sellers time that needs to be sacrificed.

When i got my car 2 months ago

i asked the owner to meet me at a workshop

where the car was put on the hoist and a full test was done

and looking under the car is a must

because sometimes with imports the chassis rails

have been farked over by forklifts

also rust should be checked out as

salt is put on the roads in japan

and may cause some underbody rust

i bought my 96 S2 for 14.5 with 108,xxx

but thats because it was in immaculate condition

after looking for one for 2 years

i'll be buying from someone in SA so i don't think i will have to go thru regency right? just the transfer of ownership to me right?

but the thing is i called to get an insurance quote and they told me i need to have a road worthy cert to the car if not they won't insure the car

we dont have roadys in sa.

if youre buying a car from interstate, it will have to go through regency though.

I would never buy interstate unless its something worth its while. I got a car 4 weeks ago with lots of mods from nsw and I am still having trouble with regency been twice.

Ive never heard of having a road worthy in SA.

I insure with just cars and they have never asked for that.Who told you that?

All you need to do if you buy local is fill out the green slip thats with the rego and take it in to rego office and change ownership.

No need to take through regency if you buy local

P.S buy my car

Sure they didn't mean an import plate/sticker?

I called Just Cars and while the guy was asking about the details of the car i was looking at to quote the insurance he said i needed a road worthy cert (exactly what he said) if not they wouldn't insure me

:D Sorry mate i'm actually looking more of a 'sleeper' car.. dun wish to be trailed every single day

Complying a vehicle and whether it passes is a statement as to its road worthy-ness and OEM parts(Originality). Like if bushes are worn, etc. it may not pass compliance.

Next time you call an insurance company ask them if they mean Compliance Sticker as we are one of the odd states out in terms of the "Road Worthy Certs". Did you tell him you were in SA and that they are null/void for SA?

Just Cars never asked me for a roadworthy cert!

Yup i did told him my full address and apparently he told me that. when most of the cars i see on carsales have no road worthy cert to come with.

Btw is it normal for a R33 to not have its airconditioning working? Apparently i called a few of those guys on carsales and they said their car airconditioning needs regas etc

Air con needs regas or they ripped out the air con? I have known quite a few people to pull out air con,etc to shed weight among other things.

As to being a problem, i'm not sure. The only problem with mine is a small plastic cog(Operates vents) has lost a few teeth, which results in a clunking noise behind the dash(apparently easy to fix in S1 but S2 has a airbag in the way).

If the air con did need to be regased, make them do it or negotiate a lower price because of it. However i would get the car checked over anyways even if it costs $200 and your time, as it could cost a lot more later on if you don't.

i wont buy a car if the air con is not working .....the old regas excuse usally means it's stuffed and too dear to fix .i would tell them that the aircon working is a must and if there not prepared to get it regassed for a sale you will keep looking .

air con repairs cant cost over a 1000 bucks to get running if it needs a new compressor and a service and regas

    • For these last 7 years of ownership, I've always had to use a small scissor jack under one of the front tow hooks to raise the front just enough so my low-profile jack fits under to reach my subframe jack point. I'm beginning to get annoyed of always having to do this. Are there any lower low-profile jacks that fit under the gtr lip on a dropped car?
    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
