Any kind of mechanic would be good to suss out the problem really.

Possibly a loose bolt, twisted tailshaft, i guess once they are under there, they will know.

Adelaide CV Joint and Mechanical Repairs in Para Hills?

RS4 with the front shaft still in?

Do you have different sized rims or tyres front to rear?

The AWD Stagea requires same diameter/circumference in wheels and tyres combo. If they're not the same, then your altessa system is complaining about it.

I get same issue in my rs4 from time to time. under acceleration some times, bit of a shutter! havent had chance to have a look at it yet! Do have 17x8's on front and 17x9's on rear? no idea if that has anything to do with it! but dont see how having wider wheels would cause a shudder???????

shudder is 99% one of these ..... overheated/worn/bent /oily clutch, worn u-joints/ cv joints or too much lash in tranny or axle , or carrier bearings on drive shafts, (sometimes really worn bushes create shudder feel but rare unless tranny mount or engine mount is broken)easy to suss once the car is jacked up.

could be a combination of a few of the above items,

mine is getting bad, but clutch is worn out....lol annoying for sure

yeah i get that but how can it cause a shudder?

If you have different tyre sizes the transfer case has to slip to make up the difference.

In the R33 and later 4wds there is preload on the clutch inside the transfer case so it doesn't run free like the r32 4wds do. This is why you can not safely just pull a fuse and drive in 2wd with anything later than a R32.

The reason this causes shudder is because the clutches in the transfer case grip until the load between front and rear builds and then slips. This happens over and over very quickly causing a shudder. It can happen anytime, whether under load or not, it just depends at what point the clutch wants to grip/slip.

The shudder can also be caused by air in the system, get it bled out by your mechanic

My car has a shudder under mild load and is caused by air from a leaky bleeder and gasket, it is on the list of things to get fixed.

    • Yes, just without the annoying use of the word hybrid. We stopped using that term 20 years ago when we realised it meant different things to different people. Even "highflow" can represent more than one way of achieving the goal of getting more flow out of a turbo. But at least it says what it does on the box.
    • OH, when they say "solid buckets", I always interpeted that as "shimless". (Which is not the same as the "shimness word I invented above to represent the same idea that the buckets act as shims also!!). Still the same problem though. So it appears that buying a "kit" from Tomei is a two step process. Makes sense. Doesn't make sense in the context of a "kit" though.
