best tyres

as the title states i'm looking for help in picking new tryes? i'll be running 15"x 7& 7 1/2" and are thinking 215x 60 but what would be the best brand??

the local jaxs place i use for most of this stuff wants to put falkens on it! could anyone recommend any other brands for good street responce?

After about 10,000km I still think my Michelin Preceda tyres look brand new and handle the same way they did the first day I got them.

I recently got some Hankook K102's 225/50 R16.

I would definately say they are the best bang for buck tyre.

I paid $147.50 per tyre (including fitting and balancing), so $590 all up.

Don't be fooled by the price, I have found them to be very responsive, just as good (or better) than/as my old semi comp Yokohama Advans.

Temperature rating is A, Speed rating is Y and traction rating is A (I think the K104's are a AA traction tyre).

I am very happy with traction both in the dry and wet (although I haven't given them a good workout in the wet, they are very good from what I have noticed so far). They do however squeek a bit when u break traction (my Yokohama's were silent).

Only after I bought them, someone pointed me to a review stating exactly what I have said, and that they compare to many of the higher end tyres. If I can dig up that article I will post it.

I'm going to run Toyo proxis T1-S on my GTR, only $20 more than the falken st115 (but a much better tyre)

thanks for the replys, my concern is the 15" rims and the 60mm profile tryes i'll be using as i'm currently using 15"s and hate the 205x 60mm falkens on there, i have throught of going to 50mm profile but every one says i'll lose speed!

The old man has got Yokohama A539s in 215/60 R15 on his Commodore and he loves them. I have Yokohama A539s on my R33 GTST too in 235/45 R17 and I will definately be getting them again. Very good in the wet, can't break tranction in my 33 unless I dump or slip the clutch and gives confidence around the corners in the wet. Makes the car feel slow though, which is good, but boring if you like a little sideways action.

rsx84, just so you know...that number after the / is a % not a measurement in mm. So if you are going for a 215/60 it means the tyre is 215mm wide and 60% of that width high, i.e. 129mm.

are these measurements taken as just the tyre, from the very most inside to the very most outside, or when the tyre is on the rim?? that puts a new light on the profile side of things, Cheers.

just to put another spin on it if i was to go for 225 on the rear and 215 on the front 60 both ends the profile would be different (to the smallest degree).

The measurement is a bit of a "rubbery figure" (oh the jocularity...) . It's basically the tread width, however the tyre manufacturers have different interpretations of where they measure this.

You are correct about the 225 v. 215. There will also be a slightly different circumference.

i think the tryer bloke is talking 502?? as they are the ones he recommended and put on my r31, i'll be going with the 215x50x15 all round, its the brand that i'm looking to get ideas on!!
