Hey guys,

I need a new clutch for my 33gtst, it is currently approx 300rwhp and im looking at increasing to 350-400rwhp in the near future, the car is 95% street driven and i want something with a pedal close to standard but capable of handling more power.

Im currently looking at the Exedy HD button kit and the HD cushioned button kit, just wanting to get some feedback from ppl with these kits, wat are they like on the street? daily driving etc? as im hearing differing reports about them.

Also i really like the sound of the Jim Berry 'full monty', but by the sounds of it i think it might be a bit out of my price range and im needing to replace my clutch ASAP as it is slipping more and more just in regular driving.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated

cheers

Love my cushioned button. Feels like a stock clutch to me nowadays. Took a little getting used to and probably about 1000km to really bed it self in (was pretty harsh the first few days of driving it).

It will be fine for the power you want, mine hasn't showed any signs of slip yet. However it isn't really a clutch for doing big rpm launches or such.

thanks for the feedback mate, i am leaning towards the cushioned button, seems to be what im after, although ive emailed the supplier and he is now recomending an Exedy Extra Extra Heavy Duty Button (NSK-7056HHHDB), this sounds like it might be 'overkil' for my application? wat do you think?

cheers

Hmm never heard of that one, must be something fairly new...

If you wanted something a bit more heavy duty than the cushioned button but still drivable, go towards one of their racing clutches such as the Single Sports Organic. However the prices start getting a bit up there.

yeah thats it im just not sure, at the moment the car is approx 300rwhp, and i know i will be eventually increasing this but not for a litle while at least, i just dont want to get something that is not really nesassary for my application, im leaning towards the cushion button mainly just because the 'extra extra heavy duty' wording is just putting me off slightly ;)

Excedy Single Sports Organic in mine running around 375 hp atw, with 1/2 a dozen super sprints and about 10 000ks of driving it is now at about 50%, Has not slipped once and is still nice and light.

how much is that excedy kit you've been quoted

you don't want just a HD button no matter what branding you choose make sure it has 'cushioned' in there title of product

i personally recommend the NPC HD Cushioned clutch our trader ratings have disappeared for now so you can look through my profile to see how many Ive done as GB's

NPC's HD Cushioned will support about 470rwhp ( 350 rwkw for those of us using metric units)

thanks for the feedback mlr, i think im just gonna bite the bullet and go with extra extra hd item, theres not a lot of price difference between it and the cushioned button item so atleast il have a little bit of leway for more power ;)

that's what i'm running phil... love it...

installed it @ 11pm and managed to get 24hrs on it before a motorkhana day and it has performed faultlessly since then with 300rwkw

car has now seen 3 DECA's, Mt buller road and daily duties for 6 months

snaps like a bitch but is still easily drivable... pretty shitty if you are in bumper to bumper traffic i'd imagine tho

you can email Doug @ NPC on [email protected] let him know you want the ceramic HD cushioned clutch for skyline

then email me [email protected] as PM system isn't working we can discuss further

I forget who I talked to but he seemed to have a good idea of what he was on about. Might pay to give them a call if your after info asap, because they didnt reply to my email for a little while.

But I might have just caught them at a bad time.

I went overboard with my clutch, because I had an exedy cushion button fail and hadn't really thrashed it as much, and only with 200rwkw. But I think that was down to the pressure plate which was a SECO. I know people running more power with the same Exedy cushion button clutch that didnt have issues with it, but with mine failing just after a year and a half, I thought I would just get something that I wouldnt have to bother replacing. I got the 10" sprung button clutch, think it was rated to 400kw.

hey guys thanks heaps for the feedback, basically due to time constraints and the fact that my current clutch is disintergrating by the day, i have decided to go with an exedy which i will be receiving tommorrow, i figure i want to give them a go and see how it performs for me.

ive gone for an extra heavy duty cushioned button clutch good for 470hp at the flywheel, getting it installed at gavin wood on thursday so il let you know how it goes. :P

    • thanks for the advice on the box... i was thinking the 6 speed was better for cruising on the highway but on closer inspection and comparison the Rb 5 speed box was not too different...  So the choice is going to be the RB25 box... if I can save up and find one at the right price
    • Thanks Matt, yes that's what i am aiming for. Just going to apply the right voltage and grounds to the dash connector. Hence my search for these pins... any chance you know if these pins are in the same spot as the ones on the S15 Dash connector? as mentioned above on page 8?
    • Yes, unfortunately that's the one. Signal was noisy to begin with; after driving once and looking back at the logs I saw pressure constantly swinging between 0-200psi, or staying at 0 randomly for a few seconds. There's a lot of good sensors that share the same look and feel, so don't presume they're all bad. I bought mine for 20$ off Amazon and I should have read the reviews prior, as it's clear they're junk.  I purchased a lowdollerr motorsports sensor.
