how would one go about getting in touch with your mate to grab one then?

i can organise everything for the purchase this side. get in contact with kristian from iron chef. youll have to get him to do the import approval and everything and i can help or introduce him to these guys or organise it here.

you are on the right track. yes you can still get very nice R32 GTRs from japan but as you have found they will cost reasonable money and you may have to look to other sources than the usual auctions. many premium cars like that are snapped up by dealers before they make it to auction. your budget is pretty realistic. though I'd say make it 1.2mil to 1.5mil for a really nice car. be prepared to pay that extra $2K-$3K for a really special like (like genuine kms, owner history etc).

most of the really nice R32s left in japan are the ones that have only had 1 or 2 owners. as laws of probability tell me, the cars that have had 8 owners would have encountered at least one fkhead in that bunch so even if the other 7 looked after it, it only takes one bad owner to ruin the car.

I'm sure iron chef can source what you need. he just might need to look outside the regular channels. :)

I don't see the big deal.

I know of some of good, real immaculate R32 GTRs. (2 Local to Perth, my old one in NSW)

Importing doesn't mean better condition. Look around locally, interstate etc.

5min search.

VSpecII - Original condition, no dash bubble, unworn steering wheel, no tear on drivers bolster + log books.

Carsales link

Stock - original exhaust, no wear on wheel/knob, tiny dash bubble. Stock standard bar wheels?

Carsales link

Stock - Wheels/exhaust all stock, no wear on wheel etc

Stock V-Spec - stock standard, straight etc

Another stocky, stock down to wheels/exhaust, mint looking.

You get my point, yes? There are plenty..

what are dash bubbles? common thing on r32's or something?

yes its a common fault, nothing wrong if a car has a dash bubble but can hint at it being left outside in the hot sun most of its life

the dash on the passenger side lifts up and forms a bubble

most gts, esp 32s are hard to find these days

we typically discount 95% of what we look at, out of that 5% we then select a handful to inspect close up, then only maybe one to purchase

most are totally battered to what you see going through USS

For those who have never been (i assume quite a few of you)

This is what USS looks like, from my trip in Jan. you have to have registered dealer passes to go through.

Most luxury ones are kept outside (german makes). the multistory on the right of the picture is where all the others are kept

Picture433.jpg

so then you go to view the cars (each floor has a different type of car on)

Picture434.jpg

Then go and bid (4 cars being bid on at once)

Yes, the dash cover starts to lift in the pressed in section above the glovebox on most older R32s, especially if they are left in the sun. No real problem other than it looks ugly. Can be expensive to rectify though as good dash panels are hard to find secondhand and they are about $900ish new from Nissan, plus about a days worth of labour to remove and refit. Also the air vents in the dash break, although these are available now for reasonable prices if you look.

Edit, the above post has all the goss too, must have posted as i clicked reply..

Well If anyone finds anything worth a look let me know.

As I have been looking at USS for some time now, with not many good ones passing through and the ones I have tried have gone for really high. I have increased my budget a bit and hope to find something in great nic.

Are there any recommended dealers or other good places to look.

I have asked Iron Chef to look at dealers but I think he only does auctions.

Time will tell I guess...

which USS though? USS is a company name, they have dozens of auction houses in japan (ie USS tokyo chiba, USS kyushu gold, etc etc). along with the other big ones there are about 60 auctions a week in japan and I'd say at least 20 really worth looking at.

I buy cars from dealers as well as auctions and have even negotiated private sales before to get special cars in japan.

there is a super rare V spec II N1 R32 with a dealer that I deal with in Japan available at the moment. It's probably the most desirable of all R32 GTR models and one of the hardest to come by (let alone in standard condition). it's standard down to the wheels, exhaust etc with genuine 46,000kms, it's a 1 owner car from brand new (very hard to find and makes it 10X more desirable to a collector) and has been stored indoors it's whole life. it would be perfect but for one small problem. asking price is pretty hefty at just over double your budget.... still I would say even at the current $30K asking price it's value will only increase from here. the sad thing is given how standard and collectible it is it's not really a car you could buy to drive and enjoy every day as you'd just be destroying a piece of history of which there are not many left like that.

just to add I'm sure iron chef can source a car from a dealer for you too. he may be a bit reluctant as it can be hard depending on where the dealer is vs his japanese exporter to get the car properly checked out. and some dealers won't even allow proper inspections of their cars. so it may be a case of having to trust the dealers impressions of the car....never a recipe for guaranteed success.... but just like in aus some are much better than others and actually tell the truth some of the time...

I have looked at all of the auctions that USS, Tokyo, Nagoya Chiba etc...

I also know the car you are talking about which is at Global Auto. It's nice but I wouldn't want to spend that much on a 32. Like I said I will go upto 1,300,000..

I think thats more than enough but it is not easy to find them at that price lead alone good ones pinch.gif

uss tokyo is what i meant

are the type of thing you have to look for (prices include UK Duties not FOB cost)

(not trying to sell them to you as we dont export to oz due to not having a set up/garage for registration there)

but gives you an idea as to condition

    • You are selling this? I have never bought something from marketplace...i dont know if i trust that enough. And the price is little bit "too" good...

    • It would be well worth deciding where you want to go and what you care about. Reliability of everything in a 34 drops MASSIVELY above the 300kw mark. Keeping everything going great at beyond that value will cost ten times the $. Clutches become shit, gearboxes (and engines/bottom ends) become consumable, traction becomes crap. The good news is looking legalish/actually being legal is slighly under the 300kw mark. I would make the assumption you want to ditch the stock plenum too and want to go a front facing unit of some description due to the cross flow. Do the bends on a return flow hurt? Not really. A couple of bends do make a difference but not nearly as much in a forced induction situation. Add 1psi of boost to overcome it. Nobody has ever gone and done a track session monitoring IAT then done a different session on a different intercooler and monitored IAT to see the difference here. All of the benefits here are likely in the "My engine is a forged consumable that I drive once a year because it needs a rebuild every year which takes 9 months of the year to complete" territory. It would be well worth deciding where you want to go and what you care about with this car.
    • By "reverse flow", do you mean "return flow"? Being the IC having a return pipe back behind the bumper reo, or similar? If so... I am currently making ~250 rwkW on a Neo at ~17-18 psi. With a return flow. There's nothing to indicate that it is costing me a lot of power at this level, and I would be surprised if I could not push it harder. True, I have not measured pressure drop across it or IAT changes, but the car does not seem upset about it in any way. I won't be bothering to look into it unless it starts giving trouble or doesn't respond to boost increases when I next put it on the dyno. FWIW, it was tuned with the boost controller off, so achieving ~15-16 psi on the wastegate spring alone, and it is noticeably quicker with the boost controller on and yielding a couple of extra pounds. Hence why I think it is doing OK. So, no, I would not arbitrarily say that return flows are restrictive. Yes, they are certainly restrictive if you're aiming for higher power levels. But I also think that the happy place for a street car is <300 rwkW anyway, so I'm not going to be aiming for power levels that would require me to change the inlet pipework. My car looks very stock, even though everything is different. The turbo and inlet pipes all look stock and run in the stock locations, The airbox looks stock (apart from the inlet being opened up). The turbo looks stock, because it's in the stock location, is the stock housings and can't really be seen anyway. It makes enough power to be good to drive, but won't raise eyebrows if I ever f**k up enough for the cops to lift the bonnet.
    • There is a guy who said he can weld me piping without having to cut chassis, maybe I do that ? Or do I just go reverse flow but isn’t reverse flow very limited once again?
