i just got mine redone after heaps of defect trouble..ive got a full turbo back system, and it was running a good jap brand cannon, cant remember what brand now.. but i decided to put a varex muffler on it so i could shut it up...when open it runs as well if not better than the previous one and it sounds better, alot deeper note, not so tinny sounding..plus i love the fact that u can make it really quiet if ur out and about with cops around, or for the sakes of your neighbours :whistling:

i got mine modified a bit so it doesnt look like a varex anymore coz apparently they are frowned upon lol...maybe not the system for everyone, but definately worth a look

I would recommend a custom job including Coby extractors, Coby resonators x2 and whatever good quality tip you can afford.

I have 2. 1/4 inch mild steel piping coming off Coby extractors and through a long hot dog Coby resonator and a RPS 3inch cannon with internal baffle. (i think its 3inch might be slightly larger).

I have had this on my N/A Neo for about 3 years now and I finally heard it for the first time with someone else driving my car and i have to say, it sounded AMAZING its a lot nicer than what i thought it would be outside the car and you can really appreciate the genuine skyline exhaust note. It was about 91.3 DB.

I recently failed a warrant of fitness due to the exhaust (new laws meaning its up to the individual doing the test to pass it or not regardless of the db reading) so i installed another small Coby resonator and dropped it down to 87.1 DB which is probably a good level to have it at, so i would recommend two resonators in your exhaust system and you shouldn't have any problems with cops or anything and it will sound nice, not tin arse.

Just make sure the cannon you put on isn't too big!

p.s it cost me about $1100 NZ for my set up, i wouldn't waste my money on fancy jap cannons if i was you, any half descent brand will sound just as good, some people say RPS is shit but i would tell them to get farked and have a listen to my car because that would shut them up.

And if you wanted the full effect get a professional to mount up a pod filter or get a high flow panel filter installed as you get a nice semi loud sucking sound from the intake, kinda like a turbo car but not as loud and obviously not caused from a turbo lol

r34 thanks for the reply

i spoke to my local exhaust shop and they suggested 2 1/2 system with highflow cats and just a sports exhaust not a cannon they said they are removing more cannons then they are fitting them because police are just targeting people with cannon so i am told. I like the look of the cannons but if it is just going to get me a fine i am not to excited about that and that is a bummer because i was looking at getting one fitted

I have never been pulled over by the cops due to my exhaust, and when i was pulled over (only three times to date, twice for accelerating too fast, once for speeding) they never looked at the cannon or anything.

Don't get a big fat rice cannon and you should be fine. The bigger it is the louder it will be and the more attention it will attract.

That would be for a turbo car, if you are thinking it will make your car faster or sound like a turbo car you are wrong lol. 3inch is too big for an N/A car, stick with custom or buy a proper N/A exhaust off the shelf as it is suited to your car and not something else.

sounding like a turbo car is not what i am after a power gain would be nice i found that system on just jap website and just wanted some advice on the system itself is there many systems out to suite a n/a car still sound nice

Yes, any custom setup like i mentioned before sounds great. The skylines that sound like crap are usually the ones that run a pipe thats waaaay oversized or have a big ass cannon on the back of it. Also if you do a half ass job and only replace the tip with a cannon (leaving the stock piping how it is) it will also sound like crap.

A few jap brands stock bolt on exhaust kits for N/A skylines but they can be pretty expensive, if you can't afford to do the exhaust properly wait until you can, otherwise you might end up spending more in the long run to get it sounding nice.

so do you think that system would sound rubish for a n/a r34

I've heard of other people putting this system on there car, but I personally haven't heard this one running.

But going of the fact that its for a turbo car, the piping will be a lot bigger than that on an N/A.

So, if you don't want more noise than speed and don't want police attention then yes this system will be rubbish.

You can always go on youtube and listen to all the different exhausts, even tho the sound quality on camera's are crap.

    • Its also worth mentioning that 30 years after it left the factory and god knows how many missed oil changes since, there is every possibility that one or more lifters are ticking because they are sticky/gummed up. To resolve that you need to pull the cams then pull each lifter, disassemble, clean, reassemble, soak in oil and re-install, and they should come up good as new.
    • What air filter are you running? Is it a panel filter in the stock air box, or a pod filter? Is the air filter the type that is oiled?   If you unplug the IACV, what rpm does the engine idle at?
    • Reading through the engine service manual their advice is do a cylinder balance test. Unplug one injector at a time and see if the idle drops a consistent RPM. You can also do this using a Consult cable which is easier. They also call for unplugging the power transistor, then with the engine off and the fuel rail unhooked from the manifold verifying that you have good fuel flow (even injection, no dripping/leaks, etc) when you twist the CAS by hand. Also verify the spark by pulling the spark plugs and allowing the plugs to ground and turning the CAS by hand. I would also start doing the sensor checks and idle valve checks in service manual. Make sure the MAF tests reasonably, the intake air regulator is sane, etc. You may have to get new spark plugs.
    • This sounds very old of me, however since buying the Tiguan shit box, my view on shit boxes have changed.
    • I've looked up the parts number (41011AL501). It's around $700 OEM. Usually our Infiniti G35 here in Canada have interchangeable parts with my Stagea but the parts number are not the same. I have looked around and it seems the JDM 2005 V35 Skyline (which is the same as our G35) has the same caliper but I cannot confirm. And I can't find a repair kit. The inner brake pads drags on the rotor, seems to be rusty piston. Thanks for the info by the way
