its baked enamel (2K)The covers and plenum have been polished first then the paint applied.....Its quite tricky to apply as they have lots of shapes and angles and paint such as this candy is hard enough to apply on flat surfaces ...theres also the issue of applying it to a mirror like surface,Coz it runs easy.

step1...go to famous coatings "specialist"in thomastown in victoria....Step 2 Get jerked around by a bunch of lying pricks......Step 3 set up and do your own.....the old saying applys...if you want a job done ....do it yourself!;)

However this can be quite dangerous if care is not taken....I could post up step by step but some people might end up blowing themselves up :(

Holy tits! Another cool thread :) :)

I wish you were in Sydney, I'd get you to do my rocker covers too, I dropped them off at Competition Coatings with the promise that they'd be done within a week (giving me a week to put them on in time for Drag Combat) and it's now 3 weeks later, Drag Combat has been and gone and they STILL haven't done it...

feel sorry for u merli - such a little job and it seems to take years

a bit like my car, was meant to be finished a few weeks ago - still waiting.... oh well

And that's the annoying thing!!! I've called him about 6 or 7 times to chase up on them, and EVERY SINGLE TIME, he's like "Oh yeah, I'll have them done for you this afternoon" (I call at about 10am).... So OBVIOUSLY it doesn't take more than a day for him to do it...

So why the HELL has he been sitting on his hands for 3 weeks? I think he likes me calling him and badgering him... He must like my voice or something riaa.gif

depends on how good you do the job...ie sealers and stuff....however anodized parts do fade ...as far as leaving jobs to the professionals......leave stuff to them and it never gets done...Just turn up and say i want my covers and i will pay you for what you have done on them....then when he gives you a price and pay him double what he wants...then tell him that he better take the duoble amout coz its the last time he will be seeing you...also tell him that the extra money is compensation for the other 100 people that you will be telling not to go and use him....I really cant understand business's...they winge when they got no work and screw you around when there is work...

OK ylwgtr, I am just about to paint my RB26 cam covers and plenum. That finish on yours looks sensational. I have a few questions;

What paint did you use?

I assume it is sprayed on?

With a gun?

Or out of a can?

Is it 2 pack?

Pre mixed or mixed in the gun?

Why did you polish the bits first?

Wouldn't it have been easier to paint onto the original rough surface?

Did you use paint stripper to remove the factory paint?

Or sand blast them?

Any other tips you have for doing this job have would be most welcome.

    • Yea - I mean I've seen my fuel pump which is decades old and uh, while I'm not saying this with real knowledge... but I sure get the ick at using anything in the fuel system that produced the state of that pump. Many years ago I went through multiple pumps (and strainers) before I dropped the tank to clean it out with extreme violence. I'm talking the car would do maybe 50km before coming to a halt, which resulted in me cleaning out the filter with some brake cleaner and going on my way. None of my stuff ever looked like what came out of your fuel tank. I don't think I'd be happy with it unless every single component was replaced (or at least checked/cleaned/confirmed to be clean here).
    • I'm not going to recommend an EBC pad. I don't like them. Just about anything else would suit me better. I've been using Intima pads for a while now.
    • Agreed, and in particular the earth strap that should go from the subframe to the chassis but it often broken or left off. There is a section in the R32 workshop manual you can follow for troubleshooting if you don't see anything suspicious, and depending where you are (there is no location on your user profile) you should be able to get your hands on a second hand replacement unit still if needed
    • Yeah they mention as a R34 for 2.5 Turbo...but then again thos "small" were also for R34 by that different site. But i look into it and that 310mm EBC is for R34 GTT. And by those you linked the specs are the same 🙂    EDIT: I found these on one site here: DBA 4000 series T3 DBA42304S They are 310mm...and it says are for R34GTT...are there good? EDIT2: ok they have pads too.  What "color" should i get for street use? I dont want/need some noisy ones...(and if they are not that dusty that is good too)
    • Yeah, shame. Maybe  driver's carpet is available 🙏. I am waiting for both amayama and nangun to confirm.
