hey guys

hoping someone might have had experience in this prob. I got a mailorder chip for my ecu

which is sposed to have different maps, speed limiter cut, rev limiter change and other stuff.

So i just put it in and my cars running like a bag of shit! The EGT light is flashing on the dash

and it feels like driving with an intercooler pipe off. Idles fine but breaks down heavily underload.

What have i done??!!

Any mail order chip is a gamble. Some seem to work well but unless you put it on a dyno or otherwise check afrs, timing etc you can't be sure that you're not damaging your engine. A chip other than Nistune is OK if it is tuned in your car for the engine and mods that you have but Nistune has the advantage that there are many tuners able to work with it.

its like that because youve probably gotten the wrong MEC chip type

when you get the wrong MEC chip type the car runs like ass basically

whilst there are s1 and s2 ecu's, there is different MEC chip types for some wierd reason and if you get the wrong one, it runs like ass

i had a mail order remap long long long time ago s2 GTST with S2 remapped ecu, it ran like ass, turns out i got the wrong MEC chip type

so essentially, you can't use it

remaps are junk, you should never buy a remap

if you insist on remap, remap your current known working ecu with nistune

I suggest you contact Toshi on this forum about resolving the matter.

He can put the right chip in it and remap it to suit your setup. Despite people saying remaps are crap there are no negative results from Toshi and plenty of people use him.

    • Hello everyone, I'm glad to join you.
    • Definitely do-able haha. I will give it a try if the fuel pump hanger does not solve the issue. Just need to find some quiet time in the area, Malta is like a big city and I live right next to the main hospital so it is very busy during the day. I'll be installing it in about 2 weeks, found a garage that is pretty knowledgeable and has the necessary tools. This garage has worked on multiple builds, even for competitions. They even asked me to stay with, so I should be fine.
    • Just to add, I found the r32 gtr ecu the most forgiving, the r33 one would get the shits.
    • For what it’s worth I drove my gtr for over a decade with gt-ss as a true daily after I pulled off the -5s, I had it engineered and went with stock ecu etc.  never skipped a beat.    I would only worry if you can’t get good fuel all the time in a tropical paradise
    • I bought an engine from a friend of a friend many years ago, it was sold to me as a RB25det Neo.    recently I started pulling it apart and noticed that the intake manifold was pretty different from others that I had seen on RB engines so did a bit of research and found that it was a non turbo manifold. So I’m sceptical now that it is a NEO DET and just thinking it’s a NEO DE (it does have a turbo strapped to it currently).    can you identify the engine model from the numbers on the block?
