would a NA 33 have any chance at beating say a t32?

i am thinking about adding a turbo to my 33 - i know it's a big job but what i am getting:

Kings Super Lows @ front end

POD filter

2.5" Cat Back

other than the above cars stock except for rims...

i aint realy driven it hard yet, just don't know if it's 'fast' or if it's a slow POS

anyone with a 33 NA who would like to post some times - such as 0-100, or just perhaps top end speeds, or accelerations etc...

just need somehting to compare to....seriously thinking about doing some major work :D

or might even be easier to buy a half cut rb25det?

thanks guys

225 top speed with stock dif, 240 with turbo dif, 5.4 0-100 with gas, something miserable 0-100 without. 15.8 second quarter without gas, with extractors s-afc ii panel filter with cold air. and look below for my quarter time with gas.

nice - i'd rather get turbo than gas..

i couldn't get a large enough shot in stocko engine to make any major performance boost would i without changing the shit i would need to change when putting a tubo in anyway?

also - is the rb25det practicaly the same as the de? would i be able to just pull one and and other in, than new ECU? or would drivetrain etc need to be changed?

the engines are not really the same, different internals and the rest, cheaper to do the whole conversion.

Sorry but whats this? you couldnt get a big enough shot of gas into a stocko engine for noticable performance gains?? even a 55hp shot which is very safe on a stock engine will give you a big kick in the arse and see your skyline down the quarter in probably a low 15 to high 14, if you can drive the thing. tell me thats not a gain.

man if u can get a det half cut for that much ill buy it off you tomorrow for 200bucks more so u make a profit, most of the 1/2 cuts go for like 3g's plus, and if u know someone u might be able to get it down to 2500 or a little under gas it the cheaper and faster way to go. Whack on some extractors on for 200bucks and ill pm u about my airbox mod and u have the same car as mine beating stock turbos.

well, i was wondering the costs of refilling bottles etc - might be beter in long run to spend a few g's

but send me a PM with your airbox mod and what extractors you have - as i want to get some :D

right now i've only got a POD on it - rest is stock, getting it lowered at front monday and next week 2.5" cat back

yeah, i paid 16k for my NA 33, realy good condition car...

so if i add new rb25det that'l bring it up to 19 + labour to put it in...perhaps drivetrain changes also - all seems not worth it :)

i am considering a zex kit right now - wet shot and ill run it at about 70hp i think, any idea's how many shots per tank?

youll also need brake upgrade, ecu change, different clutch maybe? it will cost more than 3k to do an engine swap and the resale value wont be as much. you'd be better off selling your N/a and buying a stock gtst

while nos is fun, i dont see the main benefit, yes you can hit a button and have an extra 50hp instantly, but how often do you use that? i use my turbo non stop when ever im driving, constant power throughput, anytime i go past +0 mmhg im using its efficency

to go past +0 mmhg takes like 1 second of accerelation and i can keep doing it over and over, thats the beauty of a turbo charger vs nos

much more practical and cost vs benefit = a lot

vs nos using say 10 times per bottle or whatever?

im not playing anti turbo anti change stuff cos i can im just saying cost vs benefits and overall result

you may find to convert your gts to turbo charged will cost 4k extra, so the car cost 16k + 4k total, you now have a 20k r33 gts with a turbo on it, you wont be able to sell it for the same price as a gtst as its not a gtst, its a gts with a turbo

much like an r33 gtst with an rb26dett, no where the same value as a gtr

once you factor in all the shit involved, its probably better to sell the gtst and just buy a gtr

Gatty,

You're definately better off selling your car and buying a turbo model instead - if you're after more power.

I justified doing the swap on mine (to the RB25DET) because I like the R32 and it never came out with the RB25DET... Here are some rough figures on what it has cost me to do the conversion:

$4000 - 5 stud conversion with GTSt Type M brakes, R200 LSD, and 17" Wheels

$4000 - Series 2 RB25DET engine/ ecu swap, CES twin dump pipe, Apexi Pod filter, R34 GTt intercooler, and turbo timer.

Both the figures above included labour...

$8000 is a fair amount of money to make your car the equal to a R33 GTSt, as you can probably work out - selling (or trading) the car is the smartest option. Putting NOS on you car is also silly, considering it's illegal to drive on the streets with it hooked up, and in time it will wear out you engine.

Ryno

yeah ryno has a good point regarding an r32 with an rb25det instead of the rb20

but even taking away the fact that nos may wear out your engine (not sure if it does) but you wont get as much benefit from it, granted it gives u a nice 50hp or more kick when u hit the button but how often would u use it on the streets? i use my turbo on the streets all the time, on the way to work, the shops etc... its an all-round performer vs once every now and then with nos

Hey all,

im not saying nitrous may be better then a turbo, trust me if circumstances permitted i would have a turbo in 5 seconds flat. Merely expressing my oppinion nitrous being a good value for money alternative. Yes it is illegal in most instances but so are alot of mods that people do to there cars. It really depends what you want out of it i suppose. But to be quite honest i love it, its great fun for the occasional squirt and for when your not in the mood for driving fast the bottle isnt in ur car and u have the fuel economy of an NA car. Dunno just my thoughts.

Mate i havent had it long enough to tell you of ne long term effects, but the car is still as reliable as it used to be, and so far has given me no troubles. The internals are very different from what ive been told i havent ever actually seen the internals of the NA engine to compare it with a turbo, but ive been told they wont handle boost above 6-7psi without dramas. My car is a daily driver and has the bottle in for special ocaisions, never for just cruising around unless im in the mood and want to go somewhere appropriate.

yeah there are large differences between the rb25de and rb25det, other than just the turbo charger on it. compression is one thing. as N/A r33 said you wouldnt be able to run more than 6-7psi safely the engine will go bang due to compression. I believe the rods, pistons cams and other stuff are different too

yeah beating someone and saying you run 0psi is cool but beating some over and over on the same strech of road and running your stock turbo is better, whereas you are limited and its a costly limit too with nos

turbocharger is free power and doesnt need refilling, yes it comes down to personal preference, id much rather prefer the turbocharger

if me and N/a r33 went against each other, we would beat me the first time and maybe the second, once he runs out of nos its all over for him, and its probably cost him a good $200 or so? no idea how much a bottle of nos is. whereas its cost me $0 and i can remotely keep up pretty well if not run equal every run and when he's out of nitrous he'll have no hope of keeping up

give and take :(

    • What 1.5 way? There's no such thing really as a 1.5 way, just different ways of explaining 2 ways with different ramp rates. HOWEVER. In any driving in a straight line your 1.5 or 2 or 1.7 way should have no clunking at all. With the clutch fully depressed the diff should be silent (unless it's welded but I'm assuming it's not). Something aint right here.
    • Clutch is a spec brand, new clutch system,( PP, flywheel, friction disc, etc. pull type) installed 100 miles ago, with no problems.
    • looking for some help and maybe some insight on others experience with a new LSD. R34 GT ran and drove beautifully, but always alot of grip loss due to the open R200 rear end, so I just installed a new 1.5 LSD way into the stock open R200 for a ER34. Simple. Everything seemed right. I test drove for the first time this weekend. as I started to back out the garage the first time slowly with tires straight it sounded and felt like I had a loose or half disconnected drive shaft...that was clucking around loose and shaking entire vehicle, and making it feel like the trans clutch was spontaneously slipping then grabbing very roughly while just letting out pedal slowly. I backed it out went to pull forward with the same noise, shake and slip grab feeling with hesitation, I turned the tires to back out more and then pulled ahead some same thing but worst because of added wheel resistance (which that I expected) puzzled … pulling it back in checking everything over and finding nothing wrong, I tried it the next day. same thing, couldn’t believe how it shook everything again making a terrible noise and making it feel like the trans clutch was slipping and grabbing, but I got it out of garage into the driveway, got it straight, drove forward and then reveres a few times in a straight line everything shaking , causing what felt like clutch slip and grab every time, sounded like right behind front driver tire and I could feel it in the floor board with my feet,... worst right when beginning to let clutch pedal out to engage slightly, shuttering and sounding terrible along the way…I managed to slowly get down the road, babying it the whole way, once I was rolling (out of 1st) seemed to be better and between shifts, then clutch felt closer to normal…not slip/ grab etc., but back down to any stop, straight road or turning, same thing. Made no difference if all tires were straight or if I was turning. All other gauge read out correct. with in 2 miles as planned I reached the empty parking lot and performed the break in procedure that came with lsd, essentially to drive in a figure 8 a bunch.  Did this, binding chattering, and shaking the car the whole way. I drove it back home seemed somewhat normal once I was in straight line and past 10 mph or so, and I know it will “bind” on corners and cause some tires squeal when turning especially from a stop, but when I begin to move it still causes what feels like the trans clutch to slip and jerk badly as well as shaking the entire car, and sounds terrible, that I didn’t expect. I used the fluid they supplied with LSD kit and did the breaking, planning to change fluid as they suggest after breaking, but wondering will it get smoother or less aggressive with use? maybe a 1.5 is just too aggressive for normal road driving?   I have a LSD that I put in my 71 cuda when I restored it, with amazing smooth , quite yet effective results. Different style LSD but that ones a joy to drive. maybe expecting too much from this R200?
