im sure its the other way around i.e. early model doesnt have the plastic which goes out to the spokes & the later model plastic follows the 3 spokes

unless my 89 gtr & my aust delivered 91 gtr both had late model wheels as both had the plastic backing around the boss which didnt go out to the spokes...can anyone confirm?

this is mine on a early model car, although the wheel was bought 2nd hand of ebay, it does have plastic spoke at the back, not sure if that qualifies for an early or late model but i do have hicas light coming on after 10mins or so

ok, this is another pic i found thats different in few respects to the one i posted above, there are more screws around the centre hole and the slots are positioned at 11 and 5 whereas the above one is positioned 12 and 6, no plastic spokes either

alright, can confirm with 99% accuracy that all wheels with slots at 12 and 6 with plastic spokes are latter models and all early model wheels with 11 and 5 are without plastic spokes, so far, i have found latter model wheels listed on cars dated 1992 november

thats means my early model car has an latter model steering wheel installed, hence the hicas light, swap anyone?? :P

My 1989 was the opposite (black covered spokes on the rear), unless the wheel I got with it was its second. In any case, it has the plastic covered boss wheel now which is mint, it's lighter anyway.

Just about to do this.

Have a late 92 GTR.

Issue I think I have is that I have BOSS kit for an aftermarket steering wheel.

I haven't taken it off yet but

Question: Will it still have one of these or will I need to buy one ? and if so which one as there is 2 different types :(

Steering wheel looks like this one below (late or early model ?)

e4b610b2.jpg

and I have a Hicas lock bar fitted (light comes on frequently) so I will disconnect the small plug - yeah ?

Still a bit concerned that once I take off the boss I'll be missing this :(

The white plastic hicas clock spring thingy

Richard,

This is the steering wheel position sensor, you don't need or want to remove this. You posted a picture further up in this thread of a steering wheel, and a steering wheel colum. (white gauge cluster in the background) Is this your car??

If so, all you need to do is remove the horn button from the steering wheel, connect the plug (which is for the horn), ensure front wheels are straight, and put steering wheel on straight. Apply washer, tighten up nut which holds steering in place. Apply horn, done. I recommend applying a little grease or CRC/WD-40 to the tapered part of the steering wheel to aid in getting the steering wheel off a bit easier in future.

Is there any reason why you think that the steering wheel will not go straight on?? It looks like it will to me if the pics above are of your car.

Hi Scott- no thats not my GTR.

That's some earlier in the thread but was used to illustrait for my questions.

Mine actually has a BOSS kit on it.

I'll try get some pics this weekend after i remove the aftermarket steering wheel.

I figure the person who put the BOSS kit on removed the Hicas clock spring (in white in the pics).

Maybe he didn't. Wont know till I pull it apart to check.

Was being lazy. I didn't want to undo the 15 or so allen key bolts to find out I need the thing above in the pic.

Cheers

R

My bad, the pics posted above of the steering wheel and colum were from BWRGTR.

When you pull off your steering wheel boss, the steering wheel sensor should still be in place, mine was. The reason a HICAS boss is used, is so that the steering wheel sensor still works with an aftermarket steering wheel.

Good luck

    • Ha ha ha, that's fair mate! We have the crackhead dogs now. Mainly because the missus wants the crazy dogs while she still has the energy and capacity to be able to keep up with them! Ha ha our current two are both Working GSD, there brothers and sisters (from the same litters) are in Police, Corrective Services, and I believe one did end up in defence force too. They're wild and fun, yet right now, both curled up asleep on the lounge room floor while we watch some TV. Mal is very likely the next dog (unless I get my couch potato guardian dog 😛 )   What are your Kitties names? Are you planning some house work, like those high kitty shelves, built in scratching post, and some cat passages from one room to another room?
    • Maine Coone, did look at but to big and fluffy As for performance dogs, we had Mals at work, performance dogs are fun to watch, but, way to much work for this old rooster
    • Yep, it was only an option on the Q50 Hybrid.  Same in Japan as far as I know. And doesn't use a centre diff like the Suby's do, so not the same as the WRX.  But it also isn't a reactive AWD like other Nissan AWD vehicles are, eg. Murano/Xtrail/etc.
    • You should have got a Maine Coone then. Only thing is they're big. But so cool, and just like a dog. Or, just get yourself a high performance dog. That'll teach you for wanting Parkour indoors 😛
    • Are you thinking of Bens R32? I don't remember if his went through the bonnet itself, but it went through the chassis rail. Brad (RISKIN) bought it, and turned it into a track car. It's funny how anti people are of Jim Berry now. I remember when I pulled mine out (during an engine change) and inspected it and found it cracking badly. At that point in time so many people were even on SAU, were so pro Jim Berry, and that was after Bens GTR exploded his quite publically.
