mate if your interested, iv got a red 2ltr 180sx for sale with 10g's in receipts, honestly nothing more can be done to the suspension, and its got a skyline brake setup on it aswell, s14 interior, genuine 105ks, it hardly gets driven, the previous owner done all the work to it and was building a drift car but he went overseas and needed the money. its got near new $1000 tyres on it, 17 white wheels, side skirts, rear pods, drift wing. not exactly sure but i think its got a kaaz diff, ill check the receipts and let you know.

but the motor is totally standard, never been boosted, its even got the standard head deck in it, it arrived in 02 and i am the second owner, its fully registered and i even have the import approval papers on the thing.

im after 7g's, beleive me i havnt put it up for sale yet, but its worth every penny. pm me if interested

also i owned an r33, number plates where (mspec2), check it out the plates on a search. it had a fair bit done to the suspension and brakes, although the 180 doesnt have anything on it compared to speed, the 180 out braked and out handled it any day of the week, but put the same mods i had on my skyline into my 180 and iv got a sneaking suspicioun that mspec 2 may have had her work cut out for her.

but nothing sounds like an rb with a straight through exhaust at full boost with a nice little flame coming out the back :)

as i said, pm me if interested

ahahaha, 'MSPEC' plates on a 33 gts-t. that still makes me laugh how many people get mixed up between M-spec (a version of the r34 GTR) and type M (a version of the r32 and r33 gts-t. not sure if it was also a model of the r34 gt-t)

well it depends on how you determine it, i bought the car with the plates on it so it doesnt really bother me, but i see many for sale on japanese sites still saying mspec 2.

at the end of the day, type m or m spec. they both mean exactly the same thing, and mspec2 being a series 2 makes plenty of sence.

in saying it though, back in 2006, this car was a machine, so even if it had the plates poofter, on it, most people would have loved to have owned the thing.

ok ok maybe not poofter hehe but you get my drift

ps: a poofter in kazekstani is a female goat.

hey all,

Looking at buying a turbo Sr20det 180SX standard with exhaust,

Can anyone tell me what they go like?

how do they compare to a skyline turbo?

Cheers

Owned a 180sx auto for a number of years.

Stock 180 is not anything special, now own an r34 gtt - r34 wins hands down stock for stock (not sure about r33)

Found that the 180sx factory turbo prone to failure, broke it in 6 months or so.

Put some mods in, 3" exhaust, t28 and manual conversion (lightened flywheel) then it will haul ass & 180rwkw

At this point the car is way too tail happy and does not handle corners - in fact even stock 180, the first thing I did was loose tail up a curb. My r34 though has more power and yet It's grip is inspiring and loss of traction is forgiving.

the skyline turbo is much more prone to failure than the sr turbo. the sr turbos simply do the occasional oil seal. the rb turbos either do the oil seal, or have the exhaust wheel break into a million pieces.

also, is your r34 an auto as well? if not then that is a terrible comparison to compare an auto 180 to a manual skyline. that said, the auto s13's are an absolute slug compared to the manual ones, while an auto skyline isn't that much different to a manual one.

y'know what i dont get???

marc.

i dont get marc. the guy is popular and considered a pretty cool guy on these forums... and dont get me wrong. i like him too...

...but i dont get how someone for YEARS has gotten by on a skylines forum - that HATES skylines. lol

anyway - my brother had one of the first 180sx's in perth - and i drove it and learned in it... it had a jap spec S15 turbo. big FMIC. boosted. pod filter, bov, and 3.5in turbo back

it was probably the fastest car i've ever driven...

would i own one? no.

180sx are like fking ROCKETS if you build them and tune them up right.

but outside of that...

they are basically a holden gemini with a jet engine glued to it.

there is no ABS. no trac control. no airbag. so active stability. no variable valve timing. no auto on auto off headlights. no adjustable intermittence of window wipers. no fog lights. no rain proof windscreen. no bi-xenon headlights. no digital climate control. no electric seats.

in a 180sx you get the following:

a 2 door hatch type coupe that could be likened to a mongoose on rohypnol.

180sx are quick. when done right.

they scream like a truck. and a very angry truck at that.

they're reliable, noooo not reliable as in "well built" reliable. but reliable as in... there's nothing on it that can go wrong in the first place.

if that's "your type of car" then go for it... personally i wouldn't have one! :)

pro tip:

(get an s15)

check out what supermade just did for TAS2011!!!

The main reason I got the 180 is because of the first two points you stated, No ABS, IMO if you need ABS to not lock up you should not be driving, same goes for traction control, if you cant control the power you have, dont drive a powerful car, my 180 has vct, and the 180s do have adjustable intermittence and also digital cc.

Calm down bra...

I'm just saying they're a very basic car!!! Even with your later model perks they're still basic... And personally my argument is in a hard track car no you don't need that stuff but as a daily commute, it's nice to have

And besides why so defensive??? I was saying I like them... Just that they're just featureless old but ridiculously fast cars. Chillax

heres my two sense worth guys:

iv owned both 180sx and r33 gtst and both were stock my 180 was a sr20det with fmic and the r33 was stock and if i had to pick one id take the r33 for looks/confort but just on the downn low the 180 might have been faster eppp.

Not defensive at all, just stating, sorry if I needed to put a big :D to show we cool lol

AFAIK no 180s came with VCT, yes they have a black top engine, no it isn't VCT.

nah I know i got a neo in mine so it has it

dont need but would recommend 5 stud all round for the bigger brakes and wheel fitment, but like I said not a requirement, can use r33 rear hubs with handbrake setup and r33 cable, s14 front hubs and lcas (widens track a little though) with skyline brakes all round, just for a bit of wank factor, r32/A31 crossmember, r32 steel engine mount brackets I slotted mine so engine sat right back and as low as poss as bonnet hits throttlebody, gearbox yoke off skiddy, bigger radiator, couple of 12" thermos and get rid of A/C...I could keep mine cool with a/c but couldnt use it at all, much better now that its gone. also need to make up a gearbox crossmember...pretty easy really just probably will have a few teething issues.

Thats just off top of my head, been a year or so since I done mine, plenty of threads already on it though so a search should turn up some stuff, on here or nissansilvia (although ns doesnt seem to have very good info on it, full of f**kheads)

as for price try and add up all parts

prices are gold coast prices

mount brackets $100 per side

crossmember $250

rear hubs and adapter for cable $330

front hubs lcas approx $200 I think I got them for

R32 GTR brakes were $700

if you get new rotors DBA ones are $770 all round

add like 3k for all the little things you forgot about

add a couple of k for more things forgot about lol

Then double it and that will be how much it will cost

dude i dont know where your buying your parts but you could have just bout bought a shitty r33 turbo and stripped it for parts lmao

Bottom line sr20=sounds like ass ;)

Seriously though there ok standard, but would much prefer a standard skyline, sounds better, more torque, looks better. Most 180's look lame, only decent on ive seen around is near my work, stock kit, black and nicely lowered with wheels, none of the crappy bodykits that stick out everywhere.

Didnt have the room to have a pos skiddy lying around and then have the trouble of tryna get rid of a non rolling shell, had I been back in NZ I would have coz you can pick em up for a few hundred minus the engine and box, doesn't seem that way over here.

and in case you didnt realise the last few lines of the post you quoted were over exagerrated, just a little. What I was meaning by it is you can add up everything you think an engine conversion will cost, and by the time you finish you would have spent twice that, as the old rule goes you add everything up you THINK it will cost and triple it.

Yea sure you can do things on the cheap but I don't like to get something done, and then next weekend pull it all apart again to replace something that should have been replaced the first time round.

...after re-reading your post... i must say i have NO idea why i thought you were being defensive...

that was really weird, and i feel like a bit of a twat.

please accept this basket of puppies as means of my sincere apology!!!

Eps - 96-98 models (type x, type s) have ABS, airbag and intermittent wipers. Pretty sure most of them have digital climate control too (mine did), except for the early ones.

Can you enlighten me as to what a "rain proof windscreen" is? Most of the cars I've had have had a windscreen that doesn't leak when it rains... not all, but most....

lol then you've never *truly* had an S13 :P

but yes i'm aware that type x had moar features... im just syaing - for the most part... the 180sx is about as technologically advanced as a gemini... only difference is... they happen to have a thermonuclear rocket attached to them... and that makes them fun to drive..

...as fun as they are to drive though - i would personally never own one..

and - rain proof glass is a different composite of glass that became popular in the late 90's... basically it just means that rain streaks off the glass rather than "sticking" to it...

:)

i just bought a trust stainless steel dual catback. umad? :)

I'm pretty sure I had an S13, the chassis said RPS13 on it....

So basically "rain proof glass" is just like if you got a normal bit of glass and used rainx on it?

"moar features" ? It's a 180sx, not an iphone...A 180sx is all about corners, not gadgets... The average 180sx driver couldn't give a stuff about electric seats and stability control, yet you have listed the lack of these things as a reason not to get a 180sx... I'm not sure you understand the concept of what its strengths are....

Lets look at the gemini (base model) : SOHC, carb, no power anything, no a/c, rear drum brakes, sealed beam headlights (except for TG), no tacho even... probably more that I can't remember right now... Doesn't seem very similar to the S13 if you ask me...

    • Back again. I returned to Japan in Jul/Aug to spend time with the car on my birthday and remind myself what all the sacrifice and compromise is for. It happened to line up with the monthly morning meet in Okutama, which I have been wanting to go to for a long time. It's a unique event at a unique spot with really rare, interesting, and quirky cars. It's where all the oldheads and OGs gather. The nighttime scene at DKF certainly has its place and should be experienced if you're into cars, but there's too much bad attention and negativity around it now. IMO the better time is Sunday morning at DKF or Okutama; it's more chill and relaxed. I'm glad I was finally able to go, but not sure it's worth the drive from all the way from Nagoya immediately the day before, unless I was already staying in Tokyo for the days right before the meet, because you have to wake up quite early to make it in time. Funnily enough though I didn't drive the car all that much this trip because it was just too damn hot. While there were zero issues and running temps were nominal and the A/C was strong, RBs already run crazy hot as it is. Sure, it took it all like a champ but something about driving these cars in the ridiculous heat/humidity bothers me and makes me feel like I'm asking too much of it. I'm just me being weird and treating the car like a living thing with feelings; I'm mechanically sympathetic to a fault. Instead I was mainly driving something else around - a KX4(silver) 2001 X-Trail GT, that I acquired in May. There's a few different flavors to choose from with Xs, but visually it's the Nissan version of the Honda CR-V. Mechanically it's a whole different story as this, being the top-trim GT, has an SR20VET mated to a four speed auto and full-time AWD! It was a very affordable buy in exceptional condition inside and out, with very low mileage...only 48k kms. Most likely it was owned by an older person who kept it garaged and well-maintained, so I'm really happy with how it all worked out. It literally needs zero attention at the moment, albeit except for some minor visual touch-ups. I wanted something quirky, interesting, and practical and for sure it handily delivers on all three of those aspects. I was immediately able to utilize the cargo and passenger capacity to it's full extent. It's a lot of fun to drive and is quite punchy through 1st and 2nd. It's very unassuming -in the twisty bits it's a lot more composed than one would think at a glance- and it'll be even better once I get better tires on it(yes, it's an SUV but still a little boat-y for my liking). So...now I have two golden-era Nissans in silver. One sports car and one that does everything else; the perfect two-car solution I think👍 The rest of the trip...I was able to turn my stressed brain off and enjoy it, although I didn't quite get to do as much as I thought. I did some interesting things, met some interesting people, and happened into some interesting situations however, that's all for another post though only if people really want to know. Project-wise, I went back to Mine's again to discuss more plans and am hoping to wrap that up real soon; keep watching this space if that interests you. Additionally, while working in the tormenting sweatbox that is the warehouse, I was able to organize most of the myriad of parts that my friend is storing for me along with the cars, and the 34 has a nice little spot carved out for it: And since it can get so damn hot in there, that made it all the more easy to remove all the damn gauges that have mostly been an eyesore all this time. Huzzah. I was standing there looking at the car and said 'f**k it'. The heat basically makes the adhesive backing on the gauge mounts more pliable to work with, so it was far less stressful getting this done. I didn't fully clean it up or chase the wiring though; that will happen once I have the car in closer possession. Another major reason to remove all that stuff is to give people less reasons to get in my car and steal s**t while it's being exported/imported when/if the time comes, which leads us to my next point... ...and that is even though it's time in Japan is technically almost up since it's a November car and the X would be coming in March, I'm still not entirely sure where my life and career is headed; I don't really know what the future looks like and where I'm going to end up. I feel there's a great deal of uncertainty with me and as a result of that, it feels like I'm at a crossroads moreso now than any point in my life thus far and there are some choices I need to make. Yes, I've had some years to consider things and prepare myself, however too much has happened in that time to maintain confidence and everything feels so up in the air; tenuous one might say. Simply put, there's just too much nonsense going on right now from multiple vectors. Admittedly, I'm struggling to stay in the game and keep my eyes on the prize. So much so in fact, that very recently I came the closest I ever have before to calling it quits outright; selling everything and moving on and not looking back. The astute among you will pick up on key subtext within this paragraph. In the meantime I've still managed to slowly acquire some final bits for the car, but it feels nice knowing there's not much left to get and I'm almost across that finish line; I have almost everything I'll ever want for my interpretation and expression on what it is I think an R34 should be. 'til later.
    • Thanks for that, hadn’t used my brain enough to think about that.
    • Also playing with fire if they start to flow more air down low than what the stock twins can. It's not even up top you need to worry, it can be at 3000rpm and part throttle and it's getting way more flow than it should.
    • Any G40/1000 or G40/1250 results out there?
    • You still want a proper tune on the stock ECU though. Stock tune + stock ECU with GT-SS/-9s is probably playing with fire if you're running more than stock airflow/power.
