hello everyone,

I've got a 93 gts-t turbo auto, my ride is currently stock and I wanna modify it.

What do you guys recommend me to start with?

I'm looking for small mods to start with, that won't cost me a fortune. Yeah and it's got a cone shaped air filter installed thats it.

thanks for your time.

What do you want out of the car?

What are your goals?

Have you done much research into what areas of the car can be improved?

What is your current budget and future budget?

Very hard to give you advice if we don't know all the details.

If you want more power, the first thing to do is change the restrictive exhaust system with a full 3" turbo back.

Have a look at the sticky in the Forced Induction section which will answer most of your questions.

fuel pump?

shouldn't need that until ecu upgrade, but then again, you did list the ecu in your list of options.

Power wise, I would roll with, in order:

1. exhaust - bang for buck, this should enrich your hive with the most killer wasps. make sure it's a turbo back exhaust

2. front mount intercooler, and intake. I list these as one, as if you change your fmic, you will most liekly need to change your standard airbox to a pod, due to the change to piping

3. electronic boost controller - debatable, as you can only wind the boost up so much before the ecu kicks in with the fuel cut

4. ecu upgrade - nistune seems to be the flavour of the month. other proven methods include power fc and other well known stand alone units

5. turbo, injectors etc etc. depends on your budget, as now you are entering big bucks territory

on a side note, as you step up the power, braking, handling and drive train upgardes are highly recommended.

the other avenue you could take is improve your suspension and brakes as a starting point and build from there

decent set of coilovers with some nice brake pads will see a big improvement in your driving pleasure.

This would be the smart way to go, as it drastically improves the handling and braking of the car, but most people like to go the power way first and then catch up with the rest

I always go Fuel pump early on, most of them are pretty tired at this age.

If you're just looking to make your caar a bit peppier you dont have to spend a fortune.

upgrade the intercooler to a front mount or a 34 gtt unit, decent zorst system, T boost controller and something to control air/fuel like safc 2 or nistune. Wind the boost up to around 10/11 lb and standard everything else will see a decent and very noticeable increase over stock after you have it dyno tuned.

As for the auto, Tellemf**kem, One of my lines is a 33 gtst auto and it has to be one of my all time fave cars. Finding one unmolested with low kays really bought home to me what a damn fine car a skyline is.

Personally I'd make sure all the basics are taken care of first before putting more power into it. How many km's has the car done? Has the timing belt and waterpump been done? Engine oil recently been changed? brake fluid, coolant, spark plugs etc. Even doing a cleaning of the aac valve can make a minor improvement in responsiveness, depending how dirty it is of course.

    • Kinkstah, no, coilovers aren't illegal, especially as a bolt straight in. The illegal part will be if they're altering suspension geometry beyond factory limits, or the ride height is not legal.   Sounds like the blue slipper just didn't want to deal with any later possibility of mods appearing on the car.
    • The problem has always been that coilovers are able to be adjusted, almost at any time, to be too low. Most people who ever get/got defected for/with coilovers were actually afoul of the minimum ride height rule. So the interpretation by cops/inspectors was always that it is pointless to allow numpty to raise his coilovers and get the car inspected/cleared, then just drop them back down again as soon as they get around the corner from the inspection station.  This led to the interpretation that they were illegal unless rendered such that they can't be adjusted (ie, collars welded to the body, that sort of thing). That may or may not have ever actually been the official line, but I'm pretty sure it's not considered to be a solution these days. Coilovers themselves fall under clause 3.2 b of that manual, because they are an "installation of a variable ride height system" and they don't fit the exclusions in that clause (which point to air springs and other pneumatic adjusters). So, as per previous statements, they require engineering cert to be legal on the road. Once you have such cert, provided you do not adjust them outside the height range covered by the cert, you are OK. Without, you have an unroadworthy vehicle.
    • Here E10 is the cheapest fuel. And general advice is to not use it unless you hate your car. From what I remember it clogs up stuff in the fuel system or injectors?  With US/Canada being E10 across the board, does that mean that all fuel there is terrible?
    • Sorry, are coilovers ACTUALLY ILLEGAL in NSW? They aren't in Vic, as long as they retain 70% of stock travel and the car is above 100mm off the ground. Does NSW actually have a law making coilovers actually illegal? RWC/Blue Slip/Engineering people not knowing the actual f**king laws boils my blood. Demand them to point to the documentation that states a coilover is illegal. (it may exist in NSW ) Edit: I checked. They aren't. https://www.nsw.gov.au/sites/default/files/2021-02/RMS-infosheet-light-vehicle-modifications-manual-suspension-and-ride-height.pdf
