Have a look in this thread, especially at Jay51's PVC pipe mod down near the bottom. Combine that with an airbox/partition and even the factory scoop and you'll be getting plenty of air in there.

I found that my car ran significantly harder with the pod filter installed over the stocker airbox, dispite sucking in underbonnet air. The only things I've done to mine are a 3" turbo-back exhaust, pod filter and 12psi.

Swapping back to the standard airbox and resetting the ECU made the car feel flat and lifeless, putting the pod back on and resetting the ECU again brought it back to how it was.

I went to make a start on the airbox like I said, when I realised that there was a MUCH easier way!

I thought about what surreal said about taking the front off which gave me an Idea! I cut the front of my airbox off (like surreal did I assume), and I blocked off any engine heat from getting to the hole with perspex.

Next I will put some foam/sponge on top of the airbox, and the perspex mould I made to completely block it off, and there you go. More cold air in 3 easy steps!

Actually there is no perspex divider at the back of the box, just the front!

I used cardboard to get the shape right around the intercooler pipes, and the radiator support.

Then I cut a larger piece on perspex than was needed, so I could use the heat gun to mould it into a shape that would fit nicely into place.

It actually looks a bit retarded at the moment, but once I put the finishing touches it will look much neater.

damn, that 2nd picture is heaps better zahos! even had colour! now i know whats happening. now i know wotcha mean about the front of the box, just the lid part, i thought u meant the whole front. so have u actually done all this yet? notice any difference?

I've cut the front out, and I've made the barrier and put it in place. It is now almost as noisy as a pod filter!

As for performance I did notice that the car feels less restrictive at high revs, my boost was upped by .2 bar, and boost hardly spikes now!

I had to wind the boost back down, b/c at .9 bar it was running like sh1t b/w 5 - 6K rpm. Once I make the barrier more secure, and I put the foam on top to block warm engine air coming through, I'll be finished and I'll try to take a pic with someones digital camera 4 u to see!

Hey guys, i wanan cut a hole on my stock box and have a pipe so more cold air gets into it, now i know there is a fair few threads on this sorta topic, but none of the links for pics work. so i was wondering if anyone has any links or pics of some sort of piping on a stock R33 air box? cheers.

What I am doing on the Stagea (same as R33) is building a scoop into the alloy radiator guide I am fabricating. The concept is that, as air comes in through the grill, it gets scooped up and pointed at the standard airbox inlet. Too hard to describe much more than that in words. When I have it finished, I will post some pictures on the Stagea forum.

I can't see any pics of the mods ?!!

also,, umm, u know how under the airbox (inside) lid is a black foam thingy,,

is it a good idea to remove this?? is it there to reduce turbulence or absorb moisture?

does anyone what i'm talking about,,?? if not i can post up some pics,, later on,,,

or if possible can someone email me the pics of the airbox mods

    • Don't even try to run it on the stock ECU if you're going to have the boost controller bring boost above ~10 psi. I've already told you that. If you use the Nistune ECU, you will need to CAREFULLY read the available documentation for Neo tuning, and read some threads on the Nistune forums, to discover the various things you have to do to prevent the ECU from going bananas when the boost is too high. The is a table associated with th boost sensor that must be modified to prevent it from shitting the bed. This is just one of the things that you will need to do to the tune in Nistune, because the Neo turbo ECU will be expecting to see a number of things (such as the TCS) that are not there, and you have to block the DTCs on those. It is totally not surprising to me that you are having the problems that you are, but the solutions to these problems have been known for >15 years. So just get it done.
    • Hi. Sry iam not a mechanic and iam not at the car atm so i dont know 100% but they told they measure those and even try to change those. AFM they have two. Coils are new a they have my old one too. Plugs too. ECU...we have 25 NEO stock and Nistune 25 NEO.   But i dont know if any one those could be the problem and why/if/what can cause this, Only thing they did not check is fuel...but that walbro 255 is new(like 1,5 years)... That fuel pressure gauge idk...but i let them know Any suggestions?   EDIT: how can they know if it is like you say he ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high? Tha car has boost controler
    • Can you clarify what you mean by boost cut, do you mean it misfires both when under load (driving) and when stationary and out of gear? Or does the ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high (boost control issue)? Does it occur at idle with no throttle? When you say "the ECU is OK", what ECU is it and why do you think it is OK? Have you used the NEO ECU, and if so do you have a MAP sensor attached? Same for the AFM, why do you think it is OK? Do you have any way to put a fuel pressure gauge on it (even just a mechanical one between the fuel filter and fuel rail)?
