Hay all,

Thinking of fitting an R33GTR rear diff to my S14!

I know it will work but just how easily is another question?

I will be fitting complete GTR hubs/uprights, drive shafts and diff and of course custom tail shaft,

Just not sure if diff mounting points and drive shaft lengths are all same same??

If anyone has done this before any tips would be much appreciated!

Would you be better off just getting the gtr rear cradle too and bolt the whole lot up?

I know the r200 diffs over the model types and years had slightly different bolt lengths/positions?

You know nothing is :P

But considering you spend all day under them give it a measure up.

They can be put into HR31's with some custom work.

If you are doing custom anyway, suppose it might not make much of a difference and easier overall.

Mate, i have an s14 with r32 GTR diff, drive shafts, hubs, brakes, tailshaft etc.. which i fitted/dumbied up myself.

everything just basically goes straight into the S14 cradel. you will need to weld on fork ends fot the rear suspension/coilovers.

also some arms will need to modified but nothing to crazy.

to be honest i couldnt believe it went in so easy.

No need to alter coilovers when you can just go ahead and bolt in a silvia knuckle... I have R34 cradle in my s13 i simply swapped the alloy R34 knuckles with some s13 ones (kept all the r34 hub assembly) and switched the camber arms with s13 ones. everything else is R34.

The R34/R33 GTR alloy knuckles use a much larger taper on the LCA Ball joint but that is just a slip on washer which you just pull off and slip on a normal silvia knuckle. No welding required anywhere.

R33 gear will bolt straight in to s14 rear cradle, infact s14 and R33 rear cradle are idenitcal overall so not much point in switching it. Only other thing id rather do is use the r33 hub assembly so u have the best handbrake setup (drum).

    • They are under bucket shims. Tomei provides a test shim kit and then any measurement of shim required. 
    • I always wondered how you were supposed to buy a set of 24 buckets and somehow magically have every single one of them yield exactly the desired clearance. I would have thought you'd need to assemble a cam with either 12 "sample" or "example" buckets of known top thickness (or a single such sample/example 12 times over!!) measure clearances at every valve, and then do the usual math to work out what the actual "shimness" of each bucket needed to be, before buying the required buckets to make up he thicknesses that you didn't have on hand.
    • I now seem to be limited in power due to my rev limit/hydraulic lifters in my built RB25. I'm looking into converting over to Tomei solid lifters. Question for anyone that has done the conversion. I was always under the impression that when using the Tomei solid lifter conversion, you would also require new valves (Longer or shorter stems, I can't remember which).  I don't know where I got this idea, as so far I see no mention of this in any of the Tomei documentation. It just states I need the Tomei solid buckets, solid lifter cams and upgraded springs. As my head is already built, all I would need is another set of 1000$ Kelford cams, 500$ buckets and about 4H hours of my time installing and I'm off to the races!?!? There's no way it's that simple, I must be missing something? 
    • I couldn't agree more. I should have started from the get-go with a NEO or solid bucket conversion. I started looking into converting over to solid lifters yesterday.
