Thought i'd say hi to all :D

I've just moved down from Brissy, and I'm living in Thornbury. If you recognise my car around, toot and say hi, or whatever :D

A bit of help for the newbie pls

Where's the good driving at? (I'm a fan of mountains)

Where are the racetracks?

Can anyone tell me names of car clubs are devoted to track days?

Good workshops around thornbury area?

Good panel beaters/paintshops?

Best Tyre place around (& alignments)?

Performance stores around?

Thanks heaps :D

Michael

Thornbury... only 15 mins (if that) from me and a few other western-side members :D

there is PLENTY of good places for a fang out our way, and definitely a lot out east way too.

We have regular cruises... so watch the EVENTS SECTION.

Myself or Snowman are doing the organising so come along to the next meet.

Race track - (well drag strip) for you is Calder Park Raceway.

Located on the Calder Highway, im up there from time-to-time.

Car Club - We are a car club in vic (almost).

For track days. NDSOC do them... but we are doing some affiliation etc.

Discussion is still going on, and info will be provided shortly.

Workshops - Plenty.

One of the forums members, Dr_drift works in Coburg.

My car goes where he goes, so yeah, he knows his stuff.

There is a Dyno Day at his place of work in 3 weeks (see events section)

Tyres/alignment - I can ask around. I've never had a need yet.

My car will be on the road, and i'll be going for a burn down our Great Ocean Road (good drive)

Your more than welcome to come along with me and a few others.

Thanks to all for the welcome :(

I saw a black 33 today (don't know what st I was on) around 3-4 near Brunswick st somewhere. I gave a wave but no reply :

I'll keep my eyes on the event's section and tag alog to an upcoming cruise - so keep your eyes open for the endangered white 32 ;) what is with that. I've only seen one 32 since I've been in VIC and that was when I was down over the new year in Box Hill??

I'm a bit worried about what may be coming in the mail from NSW from the drive down : nothing major - if anything maybe 10kph over or something, but still could be bad if there are a few.

Question: If a speed camera in VIC takes a snapshot during the day, would I see the flash? how would I know (aside from a letter in the mail)?

R31Nismoid : well i guess it's all happenin' on the wesss-i-ee-da ;p thanks for the info, and I should be at the dyno day. Apparently Coburg's only a few minutes away from home :)

ylwgtr2 : thanks :D where is lake mountain and the black spur? how far out of town...

INASNT : I've never really thought about it, but here's my guess - a small city slapped in the middle of Nucking Fowhere ;) - just like vegas...

doxximus : H-pattern? - what they can defect you for that?!?

R31_Gurl : thanks...I think they've already scared me but I'll stick around for as long as I have a license ;) (2 weeks hahaha)

riggaP : shibby, I'll see you around :) that wasn't u today was it

See you all around,

Michael

    • So could it be assumed it has been installed intentionally with potentially a power FC boost controller kit?
    • Had my rig on Matt's dyno at PITS the other day. After a few years between tunes I added a few sensors and swapped intercoolers. Result. 553hp at 26psi. Not bad for an FJ20 that was built in 2007. The problem.. It filled the overflow bottle on hard runs which leads me to believe the head gasket isn't sealing. I have a coolant pressure sensor which was reading cap pressure at 22psi and occasionally overrunning to 23/24 psi on deceleration after a pull. It was not spiking. It has arp2000 head studs and a cometic gasket. As its been 18 years in service, I pulled the engine out and head off. Everything looks good but we obviously have an issue. Where I'm at.. Years ago I had the same issue, I checked the stud tension and they were all over the place. Some at 60 to 70 and some up near 90. I nipped them all to 100ft lbs and this stopped the water push until now. I believe this compromised the gasket back then. What do I do? 2 options are..  1) I bought arp 625+s, which I could put in with a new gasket. Thinking Kameari this time, reassemble and try again. 2) strip the block, get fire rings machined in with copper gasket and try that. I do not want to push it more than 28 to 30psi. I think the turbo will be out by then anyway. (G30-770). My other concern is the long term ability of a copper head gasket. Are they streetable for years? I feel like a new gasket with the new studs will probably suffice, but I don't know. Any thoughts welcome and advice on copper gaskets and fire rings. Thanks!
    • I'm a fan of the JZX110, and the Aristo. Big cruiser cars, and with the factory cars, super comfortable and feel like you're driving an armchair! And the JZ motors are a pretty nice engine too, especially with some basic mods.   The import process, and the need to be able to trust people, and the fact there's so many scammers around is what ever puts me off wanting to go through that ordeal!
    • I don't care for these at all, but at least the underside looks straight and not rusty. A good basis for a long life. Many cars from Japan have been lifted with forklifts and f**ked almost irrepairably.
    • Yes, but it's not dumb or dodgy. You can build a perfectly good boost controller from a pressure reg, a relief valve (looks same same as a reg if all from Norgren or SMC, for example) and a check valve. I ran one for years. Only superceded with  EBC because I could get one for cheaps and wanted finer control.   THis mod is certainly not a sketchy boost mod, provided the boost is kept below the "spin to death" threshold of the turbos.
