1. Rice car - An automobile, generally of import classification, that is souped up and characterized by use of stickers and decals that do not match any manufacturer of the car, spoilers that look like airplane landing gear, and hideous paintjobs and fart cans.rocket.

2. RICE - stands for Race Inspired Cosmetic Enhancement.

Originally, for me, either Cobalts or Neons are not rice cars. But if someone do the above things to ANY cars, then it become a rice car.

Take a look at need for speed underground.. You'll soon see that the dodge neon was a very fast car... And for some reason drift really good too

Ahh underground.... The main reason I've always wanted a skyline.

Do you think actually being fast means something is not a ricer? That would mean a 400hp Silvia is not a ricer. I disagree.

The main reason I think Cobalts and Neons are ricers...

Bit of a grey area, But i'd happily label them as riced when they all 'tricked' out

WTF are you talkin' bout, Willis?

Rice comes from Rice, as in the stuff that Jap cars run on. A rice mobile is a Japanese built vehicle that's covered in shit. It's not an acronym.

By the very definition a Cobalt or Neon can't actually be a Ricer as they are not built in Japan however I think the term has broadened to capture any vehicle which you typically see which is as slow as a wet week and tarted up like a slurry getting ready for a night under the red light.

What are you talking about?

That's exactly what I said.

So first you are saying only Japanese cars can be riced up, and then said any vehicles can be riced up?? FAIL.

i'm pretty sure that the "race inspired cosmetic enhancement" acronym was invented well after rice was a common term.

imho, rice is rice, whether the car is US, EU, JP or UK etc etc

Nice comprehension.

You said RICE is some shitty acronym. It's not. The term Rice came from the early 90's and it was a derogatory term to describe JAPANESE built cars which were slow and covered in wings and stickers and shit. They were called Rice cause they were Japanese built and "ran on rice" which is also taking the piss.

Technically a US built car can't be "rice" as it was not built in Japan (where cars run on rice) however the vernacular has now expanded to include all cars which look like a harlot after a night on the Breezers. So I'd say in this day and age the Cobalt and Neons can be considered Rice.

Yes, I agree with you. It could have been.

Sorry my bad, I forgot to mention that "RICE - stands for Race Inspired Cosmetic Enhancement" is something I picked up on the internet, not something I made up.

Yes.

But they have to be slow (Not that slow) and covered in wings and stickers and shit. Not stock. Stock cars are not "riced", are they? :P

Correctamundo.

I assumed to OP was referring to these cars, should they have had stupid looking shit stuck all over them.

Thought about ripping our the wardrobe and fitting the entire IKEA set, but it's a temporary house and we want to move in a few years. So IKEA advertises this as a 50cm unit, however the actually basket and rails measure 46cm wide. Only issue was depth, IKEA stuff is quite deep, where as the builder special junk is super shallow at less than 40cm. Send it, chopped the rails, then offset the mounting holes, job done, happy wife, less shit scattered all over the bedroom. Did the same to the other side too. Also drove the Skyline shit box today, dropped off oil at Supercheap Auto. I didn't realise they only now take max 2x bottles per visit. I visited 2x Supercheap Autos.
    • I've seen similar actually in my situation. You never know what tables are attempted to be used when the car thinks it's -99C or +200C. The fail state is not usually that extreme but you know what I mean - it was in my case though! This is where being able to read all the sensors is useful cause you see this stuff really quickly.
    • The above is very important. However as long as you keep timing relatively low, it's plausible to make your own knock ears and plausible to learn to tune with a modern ECU that can do wideband O2 correction like a boost controller. I mean if you only have one viable road to even drive the car on, learning to tinker to this level may be worth doing given you can't do much else with the car...?
    • I find the fact that the rear plate has to be bent inwards at the rear not so bad: but the front is just awful: It's like come on. (these are my very old, now retired/turned in plates) TBH it is a lot of money to fix a minor issue, the fact I said "I'll never really spend the money on doing this" is why people ended up buying them as a gift for a 'car guy' who can be hard to shop for.. for car guy things.
    • I just bent the ends of my premo plates. It even went through Regency like that after the engine conversion and the inspector (a great bloke!) just squinted his eyes and said "I didn't see that". Plates, and how they look, are just something that have zero importance to me.
