Can I Paint The Engine Block

heya ppl....

just wondering what I could paint in the engine bay (by myself)

is it safe to paint the engine block itself (just the top bit really)

any suggestion on type of paint

things i should keep in mind / look out for....

anyone done anything similar...pictures???

try searching for 'painting cam covers' or 'painting' betalked about alot,you may even find a tutorial..

you can paint anything by yourself, your a big boy now..

suggestions are radiator top mounts (black), cam covers(almost any colour), alternator (siver or back), fuel rail (black, silver maybe a blue or red)

please dont paint a heap of the engine bay plastics in the same colour, it looks cheap

and possibly consider powdercoating it will look better and last longer.

and please dont use a crap bright colour and have the rest of the engine bay stock standard, again it looks cheap...

A can of spray paint and an engine bay can lead to hideous results in the wrong hands.

Also "the engine block" is something completely different to camshaft covers (which is what you are most likely talking about).

yeah some times less is more..

First time around i just touched things up a little. things that were silver got a thin coat of silver paint as did the things that were black and it looked good and neat..

Second time around i decided to coat everything thicker and add some clear to really make it shine, now the painted things look too good for the rest of the bay and it just doesnt quite sit right..

That and i managed to spew petrol all over my fresh cam covers and they are now f**ked..

but before you paint anything get in there with a can of degreaser and a rag and clean everything up, no point painting things and putting them in a dirty bay

ahhh the old freshly painted part in the dirty stock engine by trick.... luv it...

what about leave everything stock and just clean it immaculately, looks awesome if your not going to have myriads of aftermarket parts or a completely done engine bay imo

unless your into track work thenjust have everything functionally clean

Yep clean and tidy looks a hell of a lot better than every single part painted in a mixture of bright colours.

yeah i just used 'engine block' coz i have no clue of the technical terms for stuff...hahaha....hey im getting there..slowly

i painted a few bits and pieces....the bits where the strut bar is attached to...suspension cover thingies?? (sorry wat are they called)

im using only black as of now....NOT planning to go the colourful route...just want a nice tiday clean and shiny looking area

il put pics..n then i can explain why i want to paint and what i want to paint etc.....camera is on charge

I also found using metal polish on old metal parts work a treat too. I even went as far as sanding the rocker covers in 400 grade and took to it with the metal polish,im officially addicted to the stuff lol.

ok...so i cleaned it up best I could....with a cheap degreaser....

plan on doing it again with some better quality stuff....

see the yellow circled bits....thats whats annoying me....what do i do with them

oh n I cant remove things myself....so if you suggest take them off and paint them then where can I get that done??

(anyone in and around joondalup who wants to help hint hint)
