Hey guys,

I brought my car into a panel beaters after a minor rear quarter accident. Basically he fixed it all up and looks awesome; however there is a slight mismatch in colour and now my door panel sticks out. The door was untouched and one can see it is a different colour. I have returned to the beater and shown him this and has only offered to paint the door for a couple hundred. Isn't he liable for his work? Shouldn't he be able to repaint what he did? He told me it was hard to match the colour and he could never get it perfectly right. What are your suggestions?

Thanks guys

What colour is it? some colours are harder to match than others

Did you get it done through insurance? If so most insurance company's state that the work has to be to a factory standard, so take it back to him and if he argues call your insurance company and get an assessor to come have a look at it

If it was a cashie he is still liable for his work but it will be harder to fight

Umm...

what's to say that after the door has been done, the front quarter won't then stick out?

You got the rear quarter done/repaired > the door could be next > you're then chasing every panel around the circumference of the car.

Like the post above, some colours are harder to match than others; especially with pearl and more so with chromemulsion.

Some colours will change after being in sunlight for extended periods, so perhaps the door/foof/bonnet/boot is now lighter perhaps?

The bumper bars and skirts can tend to be slightly more dark due to the manufactured base colour.

Did you get some leftover touchup paint? This can be compared through another painter (at your cost).

Did this go through insurance as the post above mentioned/asked?

did the panel beater give the car a polish? if not, it might be worth getting the car professionally polished and see if that makes the door closer to the colour of the freshly painted panel, as old paint usually has a different colour to freshly cut and polished paint.

Who ever painted it should have polished the undamaged panels first, sprayed out a few colour cards and matched it in direct sunlight.

Best possible way to get a match even with the paint code, because paint fades/slightly changes colour and they would have to play with the tinters, pearl, etc to get it right.

The whole door shouldn't need to be painted, it should have been blended in when they did the quarter panel.

Great make shift funnel when you cut the bottom of it off. This may work for your Corolla.   Unfortunately, tipping a 10L drum is much harder than a 4 to 6L bottle, and they no longer include the easy pour tap which was just perfection to use previously.
    • Guys since i bought r33 gts25t coupe 1994 automatic a/t(manual swap 350z gearbox)  all i got is problems, always problems. Lets start with that when i turn key into ignition(ON) fuel pump doesnt always works. Sometimes i have to turn key twice Off/on/off/on until it primes. Its new, dw300 - 340lph. My gearbox broke so i did gearbox swap, install different intake manifold, injectors and i take pipes. Car was sitting in garage for more than half a year. I did assembly all not that long ago and when i turn ignition cant hear prime. All of sudden it stopped working. Theres many videos on YouTube how to make relay mod on r33 straight from battery so i did and it doesnt work! 😰 30 - battery positive  87 - positive from fuel pump to relay 85, 86 - one of two wires from original fuel pump wires(light blue, grey) and it didn’t work. so I check on ignition and took original BLUE relays wires from trunk, next to fuses. (I believe it’s IGN+ and ECU pin 18. it didn’t work…  tried connecting (IGN+ from og relay) and (ECU 104 from 1of4 FPCM wires) to my new relay 85/86 and it didn’t work.  I unplug FPCM. Didn’t work. im thinking what’s wrong   fuel pump is working, if I leave IGN+ on 85 and 86 straight to ground it works but it’s just nonstop. Since it getting constant 12v after key in ON. light blue wire gives me 6-8v.  so how this should be connected? What causing ECU not giving — on pin? Or I did sth wrong and that’s why it doesn’t work? I need negative signal on ECU that control fuel pump. What this should be?
