Recently got myself a first car, relax guys, I'm not going to thrash it on public roads. Soon enough I'll be attending a few track days with SAU :)

So first up,

I'd like to change the stock exhaust system (Apparently you MUST change all r33 systems? Not sure why :/ )

My friends uncle will do the entire system from headers to tip for a decent price, what's the best I can do still being legal? I'm under the understanding that 91 or 93dB max at 4.5kRPM.

What about performance wise? If the system is considered "Sports" would that put me at risk?

I'm looking currently to spend not a lot, but get as much gain as possible.

What's some small things I could buy that would get myself a step ahead?

I've been told apexi panel filter, and a few other bits.

Thanks guys ;)

Also - Friends Uncle?

Sounds a bit cheap and nasty to me.

Remember this saying

Speed costs money, How fast do you want to go?

or even this one

Cheap - Fast - Reliable, Pick two

Nothing cheap will get you any meaningful gains and will more than likely cost more in the long run, as you will have to pull off and replace cheap shit parts when they fail or don't do their job correctly.

Something to think about :)

Well, if it were me, I would just try to enjoy it, chuck a decent exhasut on.

Then spend coin on suspension and brakes.

Bugger all gains to be had from the NA RB, so make it steer and stop, because the GTS4 is a heavy bastard so will never be a weapon in a straight line, but has plenty of grip so take advantage of it :)

1400 for exhaust headers to tip bro. Not worth it.

If you want a good sound, avoid a cannon. Get a 2.5" cat back for like $350, it's a bit droney but it's sound. Can get very loud.

You're a sydney resident yeah? If I don't sell my car this weekend I'll take you for a drive soon so you can hear the 2.5" catback.

Trust me mate, enjoy having an awesome car on your Ps, sell it later, get a GTST, GTS4 with turbo or even better, GTR.

Good work on getting that car too. It's a step down from a GTR but I trust you'll enjoy it.

He has quoted me a lot cheaper, not sure I'll have to see what the go is before I step my self into anything.

Bro we used to do something together online, not sure but I've got you on MSN.

A drive? Sounds good :P

The ultimate plan is to do a few things to this car and later on when I'm nearing my fulls get a 32 GTR and go hard out.

Added.

Yeah we did :) I've been meaning to start a keyhunt v2 sort of thing but time, effort, money etc. etc. Forum software for that genre has gone down hill and it always did suck at generating content.

Yeah, it's a good plan. I might be selling my gts25 soon so I won't have a liner, but I'll rock my nugget Hyundai to some cruises hahaha xD

Got some friends with friends with friends, so sometimes things come together and events happen. I'll keep you posted :)

Yeah that's right, keyhunt :P

Shh, don't tell anyone, I don't have my p's yet :O 1st of September.

No worries!

Gonna be a crazy wait till then.

The prospective buyer just pulled out from buying my car... zzzz apparently having a slight tear in your seat is illegal -.-

it's an exhaust. there is a limit to how much the cheap/fast/reliable theory applies to this. performance wise there will be minimal difference, but cosmetically there may be a bit (how neat the welds are, etc). however there will be a bit of a difference in noise attenuation in mufflers.

basically, just get a decent oval muffler and a centre muffler/resonator and you will still have good flow without the drone or attention from the boys in blue.

yeah but he said a mates uncle was going to do it, implying he has some sort of exhaust workshop, and generally exhaust places use better quality mufflers (note i said generally). in the same way that bike shops generally sell better quality bikes/parts than big w, etc.

    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.
    • Any going to watch World Time Attack at SMSP this year?
    • Appreciate the correction on the "ground", that will make a huge difference to looking at this. That makes complete sense about AF70/AF71 which is what I had come down to being the issue, one of these. I'll have another look in the ignition wiring when I get a chance next week. I'll also make up a jumper wire for running that AF73 test.  ECU is fine, relay itself is fine, pump harness is fine and the pump itself is fine. I am going to upgrade the Walbro 255 anyway with a DW300 I have since I need to replace the fuel sender and I'm going to upgrade the FPR with my chasebays kit ready for new plenum/injectors/dbw, but I'll get this working first. That's why this is so frustrating.
