I dunno anymore guys, I just need to get this sorted. I'm in Maylands so if anyone can help out with some tests or with a diagnosis would be much appreciated. Otherwise I dunno what my next step is.. :(

I just taped the wires, didn't get out the multimeter or solderer coz I'm sh*thouse with LX and will probly more harm than good. Call out auto sparky?

Again happy to help but not in the car park for pulling it all apart. If you can get into a covered area (friend w/shop - m mates place etc) ill come over and rip it all out. May need a good day or two.

Im thinking check the engine loom and remove rear seats to get to the fuel pump controller. Also can check pump.

Well it looks a tow job to m'mates place unless anyone has a better idea or offer. So I guess while it's there and in pieces we might as well get as much of it's 100k service done at the same time as possible huh? So guys, what do I need to start buying up?

Filters: fuel, oil and air filters done.

Belts: p/s, fan, water pump, timing.

Fluids: oil, coolant, trans, p/s.

(Mainly @ Boss)- what of these can we do easily with the parts out that you suggest inspecting and what am I missing? ..does that make sense? :P

well there would be no point changing ur p/s, fan and ac belt's till u change ur timing belt, tensioner's and water pump.

because if u just change them belt's u will just have to take them back off to do the rest.

so if ur thinking about doing it do the timing belt,tensioner's water pump and the other belt's the rest can be done a little later

Cheers Whitenight27, does anyone else have any suggestions? I figure while we've got our heads under the bonnet, we do whatever else we can. I'll have to book m'mates place for a few days and storage, thank farrrk for tax return soon huh??

Hmm if you're going to take that much time then I would be doing the heater hoses, intake manifold gaskets and probably turbo side gaskets (pretty sure I heard a leak on that side), all the vacuum hoses that you haven't be able to get to, genuine Nissan timing belt, get the idler/tensioner from Statewide Bearings (look through the R32 Collection thread for the part numbers), genuine RB26 water pump (not N1), new genuine standard thermostat.

P/S, alternator (is also water pump belt) and aircon belt can be done later and rather easily so no need to waste mmmates place time on those.

Thanks for all the advice guys, all this being said would we suggest getting this done in a shop? What do you think Boss? Also, any clues on how much that'll cost(not talking about whatever issues I'm having right now with it) and what are recommended Nissy mechanics about?

Sorry new job = less time to visit here.

Are you planing on taking the motor out? This will vary the cost and time.

Can do a weekend on it if you get it in cover. one day to do the service the next to find the elec prob/finish off service. I good with everything but the timing belt change. While i know how to do it i have never done one.

What are the pros to taking the engine out? I'm sure my vacuum lines that I can't get to are buggered, not sure about anything else. I guess it's worth it just for piece of mind if nothing else, and to make sure I don't need to worry about much for a while. I'm not sure Ross is the answer, what do u recommend doing? Do I spend a bit more now and attempt everything or just get it going then tackle the service? More logical in one hit huh?

if you take the motor out it may take longer than a weekend. personally i would do this on an older car but only if i had my own/friends shed so i dont have to rush getting it done. If you havent got time or said space now do what can be done with the motor in and try and get everything else done once you have a free space.

on the other hand if you can get a few people together who collectivly have done all this you may get it done in one swoop easy.

if u do take the motor out take the box off as well and check the rear main.

timing belts are not that hard u just have to make shore u get it top dead center and not have any thing move on u. it is a lot easier to do with the motor out u have more room to see what ur doing.

Hey all, I've been told to do a compression test as the symptoms apparently represent those of a done gasket. Do you guys agree and does anyone know how to do this? A mate told me it's a fairly easy test I should run before spending big bucks.

Any(more :P) help would be greatly appreciated.

Hmm, I see. This sucks. :P I'm going to have to just book it in somewhere I think, somewhere with a scantool and preferably somewhere with an autosparky on site, can anyone recommend such a place? This is my last resort unless you guys can suggest anything? I just want my car back!! :'(

if you can afford it there are a few places but they all have big $$$ to have the work carried out and i did mention a few places too you and i know boss and bubba would know a few others

Yeah I remember you mentioning a few places, I think I'm out of options though so this is the direction I'll have to take. What were the names of them again? Was there a place in Ozzie park? The closer the better as I'll need to truck it there. Also Nak, what sorta numbers are we talking about big $$$? Will 1500 cover a service and diagnosis do you think? I know I'm being presumptious asking these questions but I was just wanna get a rough idea to work with.

    • The alloy coolant reservoir has a sight glass, so as long as I can see coolant in the sight glass it's GTG, as for PS, it isn't anything catastrophic if it gets low, and as it hasn't lost a drop since I have owned the car I cannot see it being an issue, even after putting the "big block" 2.5 in....LOL The only time it gets slightly messy is at oil changes, as the oil filter sits above the frame, and I need to use a plastic bottle with its bottom cut off to catch the flow when loosening the filter
    • Good on you for taking on the job, but it is a big one. Even if you have bolt on manifold and turbo, you will need: Post throttle pressure source to boost controller to wastegate (and FPR, and ECU/MAP sensor) Pre throttle pressure source to top of BOV(s) Oil feed - you can take that from the standard port in the middle of the block Oil return to block under the turbo - this is much trickier than it seems to route a decent/wide pipe past the manifold. You really can't use rubber hose because it is way too hot there, and also the oil out of the turbo core is a bit frothy so it needs to have a decent diameter Water feed - you can take that from the standard port in the rear of the block. Water return - mine runs to a T into the heater box return, just make sure you don't create a high point making bleeding hard. All of those lines should use 200 series style teflon braided hose with heat shielding because everything needs to be routed past the manifold. Also a turbo beanie is a really good idea to minimise the chance of the car catching fire (under bonnet lining in particular) You also need to decide a cam cover breathing solution as well, will you vent externally via a catch can (probably illegal) or return to the intake (plumbing required and can oil up everything over time) Keep in mind the intake and exhaust piping in the engine bay will be custom so you either need to be able to fab ally and steel or have someone you can get a car that isn't running to. Get the wideband fitting welded into the dump pipe at the same time. Also, just my opinion, a screamer pipe attracts attention and doesn't add power, I'd plumb it back if you want to be allowed to keep the car on the road. BTW do you know anything about how healthy the motor is, and what power you are targeting? Doubling or tripling the factory power on an unknown motor is a little risky. Also fuel system will need some attention (pumps, high current hanger, direct power and earth feed, injectors etc)
