I have a chance to trade something for this AEM FIC ( http://www.aemelectronics.com/engine-management-systems-9/fuel-ignition-controller-f-ic-12/ ). Has anyone used one of these? I know its not a ems, but I have been reading good things about it. I am wondering how they do on the rb's.

there are so many cheap good engine management systems available for all RB engines that there's no way I'd bother with a signal bender/piggyback these days. if buget is an issue there are plenty of second hand gear out there which is fine.

I will be upgrading later, I just need something to get the car going.

My setup is as follows:

rb20det

redtop block with a silvertop head

neo turbine

440cc supra injectors

front facing inlet manifold

small port job on intake and exhaust ports

3in turbo back catless

walbro 255l fuel pump

adjustable fuel pressure regulator

Bend the signal AFTER the ECU?

What?

After the ECU has already read incorrect information from modified parts, how exactly is that going to be fixed.

A signal bender device cannot fix a car running poorly POST ECU if its being told to go to various map load areas?

Well I just did a whole long reply, as I was reading more up on this thing. Looks like it does both. In order to adjust the timing (retard only) it intercepts the cas signal to the ecu, but to adjust the fuel it intercepts the injector signals from the ecu. It also taps into, but does not intercept, the tps and o2. It also has a built on map sensor that you can use to tune with.

I am kinda looking for reworld reviews. I dont like only going by company pushed reviews. I could just get CarlH from nico to do a rom chip/tune, but the only reason I am looking into this is cause its brand new and free pretty much to me. I guess if I had to pay the money I would just get the rom tune.

thanx for the feedback.

If its free then why not, install it and take it to a tuner, let them tune it and see what they think of it, the real test is in the results, or you could just go talk to who ever your getting to tune it and see what they think of it, im sure most tuners have seen all the cheap and nasty shyte around these days and will be able to tell you if its cheap or nasty!

YES, I use the Aem Fic-8 piggyback

I have a remapped ecu and use the Fic-8 to finetune the fuelling (larger injectors).

So you need both?

remap for the larger injectors

and this AEM thing to further bend the signal after-the-fact?

Why couldn't the remap sort this out?

Im confused

You dont need both, at least thats what aem says. I do think it would work better if the ecu it was piggy backing was tuned.

The one I might get is the fic-6. I think the 6 only misses 4-5 things that the 8 has.

no Ash you dont need both. I wasnt exactly happy with the tuned Rom ecu remap, was running quite rich & felt "doughy". Remap was a mail-order from Toshi, so obviously a bit of a hit & miss affair being a generic guesstimate tune.

I added in the Fic-8 to replace a stolen set of SAFC & SITC piggybacks, and wired up the S15 450cc injectors to run directly off it, ended up with a great result.

Power went from 200rwkw to 230awkw with the Aem Fic-8 tune, with a tired bottom end.

Bottom end is being rebuilt currently, in due time will retune to hopefully around 250awkw.

    • The 296mm rotors are the R33 turbo brakes. The 310mm rotors are the R34 turbo brakes. The calipers are nearly the same, but not. They're the same caliper but the R34 caliper has longer legs so that it sits out far enough to go over the rotor. The pads are the same for both. When you say, "I bough tsome EBC"....did you just mean pads? Or rotors? 310mm rotors fit under 17" wheels. There may be some wheels without enough clearance though. I can't fit my fingers between the barrel of my wheel and the "corners" of my R34 calipers, but there is plenty of room behind the spokes. This is on Enkei RPF1. You can fit 324mm rotors inside a 17" wheel, but I'd be willing to bet that it would be close to impossible with the Nissan/Sumitomo caliper (using an adapter, of course), because the Sumitomo caliper is fatter than the Brembo caliper that is supposed to go on the 324mm rotors.
    • Hi. Can someone tell me what brakes(and mainly WHERE) can i buy brakes on R34 GTT? I bought some EBC which SHOULD go on my car(i have GT but it has GTT brakes) but it does not fit, Brakes are "too" small(296mm) Are 310mm be good or? I have 17 inch wheel so no "big boys" but for me driving i just need one that fits and i can get here in EU/Czech.
    • Since winter isn't that harsh anymore in Poland, i will definetely drive it 365 days a year 😉. But if the snow hits i will try it for sure and let U know. Only swap i am planning to do is of course R34 GTR front 😍.
    • Hey. Very valuable information about pitwork, I will pay attention when buying any consumable parts 🙏 As for the carpets - I got a handful of information from nengun, from which it appears that indeed the carpets for the driver's side are OEM. They are not able to show me any pictures due to the long chain of different sales entities but after I place the order, as soon as the goods arrive at the nengun warehouse from which they will send the shipment to me they can send me photos and if my purchase differs from OEM I can immediately return it / cancel the purchase. I think I will give it a try 😉. Of course i'll let you know what's what as soon as i get them P.s. I know the topic is not relevant to the thread, but both nengun and amayama have these SICK 😍 trunk room lamps available. Do you know anyone who ordered them? I need to have one in my car
