Hey guys, just a quick update on my car (if anyone is following, although I am sure no one cares, I just like telling everyone!) I have the bomex kit sitting in my garage waiting for a mate to pick it up and paint it for me. I also just installed a pair of 6000k HID xenons by myself, which may not seem that great to be flaunting, but I know close to nothing about cars and I am not the handyman type. Soo, I am happy :)

I have heard a cheap, safe and easy way to get an extra bit of power out of my '99 r34 gtt is to get an aftermarket chip put in it. Few questions for the knowledgeable to answer-

Is it safe?

Are there any drawbacks?

Where can I get one and for how much?

Engine is completely stock ^

Also I am looking into getting some blue in amongst the black.. I would like to change the background colour of my tacho/speed monitor thing to blue, also get a blue bulb for my boot. How would I go about either and is it safe for me (knowing nothing about cars/electrical) to do either. I would like to do it myself as I want to learn about my car and do all the mods (where possible) myself.

Thanks guys!

Steve;

hey man with regards to the blue bulbs I'm pretty sure the bulbs are a T10 type for the speedo and you'll need about 5 bulbs.I just got some off ebay for like $15. In my r33 it was a piece of piss to pull out the speedo and change the bulbs over but you may want to find a tutorial for the r34 on how to remove the dash facia. I'm sure it would be a very similar process and very safe to attemp even if you know very little about electrics. Just make sure the lights are off lol The worst you can do is blow a fuse which are easy to replace. And when it comes to the chip for the ecu you can either go a full stand alone ecu which is quite expensive (upwards of $1000) or a 'piggy-back' ecu (around the $500 mark) which still retains the stock ecu which is what I'm looking at getting myself soon. on top of this you also need to get it tuned which can be another $500 to $1000 depending on what sort of tune your after and what mods are done to the car. but as mentioned by the previous guy don't go getting those dodgy $20 ebay ones which claim to give you like a 20hp gain. It definitly feels good doing things to your car yourself rather than taking it to a mechanic. The best way to learn is searching on these forums. 3 years ago I knew nothing about cars or how to do a basic oil change but now I feel a lot more confident in doing any work on my car thanks to these forums. Those xenons are the shit! I have some in my r33 too :D

    • Started sifting thru my brakes to decide which ones I will run on Clem   Made me think I should just put them all on Silver...for when brake fade just isn't an option   Should be able to bump rotor up from 343x32 to 348x36 off Supra. Not sure if the Supra annulus is right for the Alcons or APs but trying g to find a used Supra\M4 rotor to test fit The Alcons seem to gain 1-2mm clearance which all helps
    • So car is getting a few mods to the cage and some jacking points welded in Meantime Ol Silver gets a new gearbox and shiny clutch.  Old Box is being set aside for Clem
    • Probably speedometer itself if the odometer is ticking. If the needle is stuck from a bit of grease or something that can cause it to stay at 0. Or a cracked solder joint in the speedometer can do it too.
    • Thanks Fella’s   to take this off topic and to elaborate a bit more. I have an rb25/30 going into a r32 GTST.. expected to make around 600-700hp. Would you?   A) R34 GTT box   B) CD00#?  I’ve seen a few posts about the CD swap and sounds fairly involved with making it fit etc but if it’s worth the work then I’ll go that way
    • Lower at the hubs. Funny I forgot to mention that part. Do this pull here I turned the camera off too soon but the graph shows a drop at the top and that was because the pipe from the turbo blew off. The tuner said we could’ve made possibly another 15 whp. He also added if I switched to ethanol we could up the boost some more as well. I was comfortable capping it at the most of 20 pounds. Turns out the turbo pipe just needed a new worm clamp. Got home replaced that then did a third gear pull from 3k to 7200 rpm and the power was great to the top. I just got an ecu mounting bracket from IEE that I need to try and get everything to fit well. It’s a PITA to get the harness and ecu fit properly behind that kick plate
