Hi guys,

Got a few questions to ask and hopefully anyone of you can give me an answer/solution...

1. Last Tuesday night I was driving in Melbourne's unusual fog, got my cruise control on and turned on the front windshield heater...suddenly the cruise control just turns off and didn't register anything...the radar symbol is still on but not showing any cruising speed and I noticed that the cruise control is just off...this happens until I turned the car off then turned it on again, tried the cruise control and it's working as normal, tried turning on the windshield heater and it's gone off again until i restart the car...any ideas why? (sorry if too long, can't think of writing the short version without really confusing anyone)

2. I had the O2 sensor busted and am still waiting for the sensor to be ordered & delivered to the workshop that I frequent. The boss had a look underneath my car and said that it looks like my turbo is starting to leak. Called the previous owner to ask and he said he didn't have any issues and the turbo was just fitted not too long ago...any idea on why?

3. I will need to do servicing in the next month or two...now I need some help on part numbers for oil filter, type of oil that you guys recommend (what viscosity too) and part numbers or equivalent parts for the front and rear disk brakes and pads (fronts are the same with which car and same with the rears)...

4. My car came with the Bose sound system...just noticed that the FM range just went up to 90MHz...is that normal because the car is from Japan?

5. Is it possible to burn an Australian navigation map/system into a DVD and pop it into the dvd sat nav drive? does it work?

Sorry for all the noob questions...still learning a lot on my car...

Syd, first thing I recommend... Is SEARCH!!

Question 3 still has an active thread from within the last week. Opinions vary, check the thread "m35 oil and filter"

4. Yes it is normal. Dunno if they fitted band expander but my understanding is even so it'll show 90MHz.

5. No. No way of getting sat nav working, but you can get it translated. Look at www.xanavi.com.au to find your local person.

This could be a "feature" in that some engineer thought it could be too dangerous to run cruise control in conditions that warranted you having the windshield heater turned on, ie. icy conditions.

Sounds like you have the cold pack edition.

2. Might want to have a look under the bonnet and see if the oil leak is coming from the passenger rocker cover (it will drip down onto the turbo). This is quite common.

any long term issues or solution on how to fix this? after a drive i smell something like oil burning...

i have registered into that forum but i still can't access the site...

Have you changed the oil since purchase? If not, I'd do that ASAP and use a GOOD quality oil (do a search it has been covered ;)).

Depends on the leak, but mine has had a very small leak for years now with no troubles.

Solution is generally to replace the rocker cover seal.

(airbox out, rubber bend and AFM off, plenum off, unscrew rocker cover bolts, replace rubber seal, re-install rocker cover etc) - fiddly job though due to piping at the rear of the engine)

Iain, looks like you need to fix the site again.

thanks for the advice, will do that in the very near future as I currently have other issues that's more urgent than the car...

I checked the site again and tried to log in, apparently my username is still not active and I didn't get any email asking me to activate my login...

got a wheel alignment done today...the guy told me the sound that I thought was from tyres out of alignment was in fact the front right wheel bearing...does anyone know the part number for wheel bearing or if M35 wheel bearing is the same with any other nissan?

any help would be appreciated as i plan to get this sorted ASAP...

my car currently has a busted O2 sensor so its fuel efficiency is about the same as an F1 car (well not exactly but u guys know what i mean)...is the O2 sensor for vq25det the same as any other vq engine? and how do i know which O2 sensor (primary or secondary) that would need replacing?

How bad is your fuel efficiency? My city driving gets me north of 16L/100km; never above 21 though; somewhere in that band isnt necessarily pointing to your O2 sensor.

There is only 1 O2 sensor in our cars, its in the exhaust dump just behind the turbo. The part number is 22690−AL600

thanks dunc...maybe i'm just still used to hondas which used different O2 sensors (i remember euro had 2)...

i think my car's fuel efficiency is pretty bad, as in maybe about 350-400kms with about 3/4 tank (i use cruise control mainly for driving), my driving is 50% 80kph, 35% 70kph, 10% 60kph & 5% 100kph roads...

Drive it till the light comes on, and fill up completely - that way you can at least get a decent read on what your L/100km is and make a decision from there.

well the ECL is on all times, tried resetting like 3-5 times, every 2nd drive after that the light comes on...checked all the codes, all pointing to O2 sensor...so have to replace it anyways :(

i'll find out the fuel efficiency soon before and after putting on the new O2 sensor

      Car has been running great, I've put about 300km's of break in time on it. First thing that stands out with properly sealing rings is no more noticeable crankcase smell coming out of my catch can. This may seem insignificant, but the constant smell while driving around was infuriating. It's also nice to see my oil level remain stable. Two new issues have developed that I only noticed this weekend though. There's a very noticeable driveline vibration past 100kmh. I only noticed it now as I've been babying it under 100kmh in the backroads. This comes as no surprise as I'm running a one-piece shaft, and I paid zero attention to my driveshaft angle when I put everything back in. I also have a fair bit of voltage drop on hot starts. The starter audibly is forcing. No issues on cold start though. I must not have removed all the paint under my main block ground during assembly. I'll try and take care of both those issues this week once the kids are asleep.  I also received all the parts I was missing for my direct port setup. I will hopefully have pictures of that up soon. I'm hoping to get back on the dyno the week of June 30th as I'll be on vacation. I'm confident I should be able to make north of 500rwkw on pump gas and WMI. I'll go back again later this summer with E98, but I want to confirm my ethanol content sensor is working properly first. I've never seen it read anything but 11%. This makes sense for our 10% ethanol content pump gas here, but I would expect the occasional movement between fill ups.

      75% complete. Will now need to get a new axle with 5x114.3 hubs and then figure out how to customize some mudguards for it once the wheels are on.

      Trailer prep is underway... Lined up the wheel to get a rough indication of how it would sit Then removed all the bits (as far as possible) and gave the frame a light sand and quick lick of paint   Then added some carpet

      okay, so I figured this out, removed needles and reinstalled after swapping the gauge face on my triple gauge for my ER34, all work and look good. I tried to do the same for the main cluster, but the main cluster gauge faces are dished, the replacement gauge face are flat, so due to the dish in the org face ,mounting backing plate (clear) and depth of the needle, the flat gauge face will not work. I notice that R34 gtr gauges are flat, appears to be different clear backing plate that aren't dished. are these available, or what have others done to install flat gauge faces?

      Cheers mate. Seems some people get lucky others don't. It looks like the motor was detonating (to be expected if it was overboosting I suppose) as the pistons had a lot of detonation damage, and the bearings were stuffed. The bores were very scoured too, not sure if that's from the pistons or bits of ceramic turbo. By the by now. Have been trying to avoid the rabbit hole too much on the rebuild, and there's been a few hurdles along the way, but with any luck I'll have the car back soon™. Might even pop up a thread then.
