hi buddy im planning to buy a r33 gts with blown engine, just wondering if i could drop in an rb26 without a mod plate as i've heard in South Australia you only have to fill out the form to change your engine number. Also do i have to register the car as turbo (i hope not)? for the brake upgrades can i go for gtst ones? or have to be brembos as stock r33 gtr?

Another option is to rebuild the engine as i've had the turbo kit with came with the car, i'm a bit confusing about turbo return oil/water as NA block doesnt seem to have them?

Just for stock RB26 I believe you can use r33 gtst brakes, but I wouldn't plan on power upgrades as people with RB25's put brembo's on

You only need to fill in change of engine form and on that form is asks you if you changed the brakes, rego is no different from 6cyl to 6cyl turbo

good info, what about that 100cc increase does it require a mod plate? and yes it's a stock engine with rebuilt N1 turbos 240rwkw, it looks pretty standard though dont think the cops will pick on it

SA doesn't have mod plates the most legal you can make it is make sure its a stock RB26 and do the 5 stud conversion and gtst brakes

there is a rule somewhere that state x amount of HP increase needs x amount of stopping power

maybe give Rory Thompson a ring see what he can tell you

Pretty sure it will need to be inspected by TransportSA.

I put a RB25DET into my ex-RB20DET R32 and it had to go over the pits with an emmisions certificate and R33 brakes.

well that's 500cc increased capacity ?

anyways im gonna give them a ring tomorrow and will let you guys know!

capacity doesnt mean anything. If the car was sold with that motor ie the r33 came with the rb25 and rb26 motors, then it is legally acceptable to do so, as long as you have all the emission gear, ecu, and brakes as mentioned. Any engine swap must have a front pass through regency (number check of the new motor), then a pass out the back to make sure its all done right. Ring up Transport SA or Rory as Madaz said.

Same, put a 26 in my 32 and had to do the same thing to pass.

not all the time, most of the time they just want the new numbers on the form. as long as the engine isn't stolen and a variant of that model was released with that engine should be okay.

Ie droppped a 308 into the wifes Lh 6 cyl torana, just mentioned on the form that i upgraded to V8 booster/master and front discs and it all went thru with no inspections.

Pretty glad too, wanted to avoid Regency as much as possible, especially with the 9" rear end and excessively large cam fitted to the new motor :whistling:

    • Totally equivalent. Stock often goes from the comp cover because that's where the actuator is also installed and the factory needs 2" of hose to make the connection - and it comes as a pre-assembled unit. They totally have a boost reference from somewhere between the turbo and the throttle(s). Oh, jeez. Just do it in M12 then. We don't actually care that much. I would expect any such AN converter fitting to rely on an o-ring or some other seal onto a flat surface under the flange of the hex**, because bolt threads are no intended to provide a pressure seal. unlike..... pipe threads. **which also requires a suitably flat and smooth surface on the turbo's boss to provide the seal.
    • I also used NP   That’s were it’s seems to be the best place to fit it? All schematic shows also that it’s should be referenced from the turbo housing. But idk, I do see high hp cars without any connection or anything to their turbos, so I really don’t know how they connect their things
    • I do have loctite 243 and 246 and a few more models. I could drill it now in place and make new threads for m12 and order an4 - m12 coupling and fit that to the turbo. Run a braided hose to the EBC which I could get a an4 to 1/8npt
    • So M12 and sealant should be fine?    NPT ” because that’s what I had and what I could get atm.
    • Wouldn’t touch par if they gave it to me. You need to ask how much power you’re looking to make and then add about 50% to it because that’s what you’ll end up making  The factory box says no more at about 350kw or so, the upgraded synchro boxes won’t handle much over 500kw for long and at that point you’re looking at an auto or dog engagement manual,  once you’ve gone dog engagement you may as well go sequential, they cost a little bit more but it’s worth it  also while you’re at it you should upgrade the transfer case with 10 friction plates
