Hey Guys,

I've finally finished my V35's performance build.

I know a lot of you are going to skip to the Dyno plot but i figured i'd write some things up anyway.

My car is a 2004 5/AT 70th Anniversary Premium Edition V35. I imported my car from Japan and got it complied at the start of July. Since ordering the car I came up with a large list and starting buying all the parts i required, most of which were installed before the car was registered in Australia.

The Journey

Stock in Japan

The Car was purchased from Japan on May 21st.

Arrived in Australia

The Car arrived in Australian waters on June 24th.

stockau.png

Stock Dyno Run

The Stock Dyno run was done before any performance parts were added to the car to get a starting Baseline. Keep in mind the run was done in 3rd Gear and from my understanding (Reading G35driver) the better gear is 4th.

Dyno.png

Added Window Tint

Got the window tint to match the stock back windows of the V35.

tint.png

Added Double Din Head Unit

Added a Kenwood 7inch double din unit.

Added Z-Tube & JWT Pop Charger

Purchased from the US. The Z-tube is the OEM stock tube from the 350Z and the JWT Pop Charger was something I debated about getting and finally chose it over the K&N Drop in Filter.

ztube.png

Added Plenum Spacer

Purchased from Motordyne Engineering in the US. The 5/16" Plenum spacer was a must have for performance gains.

plenumspacer.png

Added Exhaust

Purchased from Motordyne Engineering in the US this was a 'must have' mod for me. The Shockwave TDX2)) coupled with the ART Tuning pipes also purchased from Motordyne Engineering to make an amazing sound and nice performance. The exhaust A) Looks Sexy and B) has no drone which makes it amazing on the highway.

Added Crank Pully

I purchased my lightweight Underdrive Crank Pully from Unorthodox Racing in the US.

crankpulley.png

Added TransGo Shift Kit

The shift kit was one of my 'for fun' mods. Definitely recommend it to anyone with an Auto. The car feels like it accelerates so much harder and the shifts are lightning fast and chirp the wheels when you're flat footed. Driving the car normally you wouldn't even know the kit was there.

Added Tune

The Car was tuned thanks to UpRev in America. A lot of hype surrounds the UpRev Osiris tune for the G35 so I decided to invest in it after looking into other avenues (Piggy back ECU's etc). I ended up purchasing the Standard Pacakage for $500 USD. After having communication issues with a great company in the UK that e-tuned my car with UpRev Osiris I decided, while on the Dyno, to upgrade my UpRev account to include the Tuning package (an extra $200) and I letMatt Spry from PITS on the Gold Coast take over. It was his first V35 UpRev Tune but he found it to be super easy and was able to get 10WHP more than the e-tune package from the UK.

Final Performance Dyno

The Final Dyno shows:

A )The Stock Reading shown above (Pink) Average of 201HP consistently, highest of 203.

B) The Reading after the parts were installed and the very first Flash was sent to me from the UK.(Green)

C) The final reading after Matty Spry got his hands on the Tuner Kit.(Red)

Again these were all 3rd gear pulls and from my research 4th gear would be the best gear for a 5 AT. These figures aren't necessarily the highest WHP my car can do, but more so showing the gains.

dynofinal.png

Added 20 inch Wheels

These Wheels, Vertini Fairlady, were added today (02/08/2011) now that the Dyno runs are complete. Will invest in lowering the car at a future date.

wheels1.pngwheels2.png

Already Purchased

Very Popular combo in the US. All Purchased and on a ship here as we speak.

  • KurumaZ Front bumper
  • ChargeSpeed Rear Bumper
  • Impul Side Skirts

Future Mods

  • Lowering the car (Possibly 350z Springs)
  • Big Brake Kit (OEM Kit from the 370z)
  • Painting Roof Black.

If you're looking for any information on a product hit me up, i'd be happy to help you out. Matt Spry is also now looking into doing more UpRev tunes. I believe hes also looking into becoming Australia's first listed UpRev Osiris Tuner.

Let me know what you think. :)

Awesome! Thats a great result

I was trying to work out what I'll eventually do for an aftermarket ECU, I think I'll follow in your footsteps

Two of my mates have had cars tuned at PITS and they swear by him. Was installation of the Osiris difficult?

How loud is the Motordyne Shockwave when you lay the boot into it?

Installation was so simple. All you have to do is get your OBDII plug out, change a wire around, plug the supplied sipher cable from your OBDII to a USB on a laptop, turn the car to ON. Load the Flash file and you're done. The first load takes around 2 minutes to load up. After that its approximately 10 seconds per reflash.

The Shockwave TDX2 exhaust is an amazing piece of performance part. Its quiet when you're on the highway but when you put your foot down you don't want any police to be in a 1KM radius. I've been told from everyone who's driven behind me when i put my foot down i sound like a race car. So i guess thats a good thing? :P

Awesome car, we will have to catch up and go for a drive, i got 159kw stock (just fujitsubo exhaust) and then 170kw after DE y-pipe, test pipes, z-tube, pop charger, motordyne spacer.

I went to Matt and as good as he is the arrogance turned me away... I will be going to Gavin Woods, man he is a top guy, sat down and talked about what i needed and have he would work with me when i go FI. highly recommended !!

Also you have spent so much already, dont go springs, get some coilovers, sway bars (jawgy is selling some new cheap so hit him up). You will be so amazed, car will be a grip monster ! what size tyres you get and type?

Glad u got clear corners, and tinted windows! Cant wait till i see ur body kit on !

Im building a engine for 600HP but will only run at 450HP. Cant wait !

I've spoken a fair bit to Gavin Woods, only thing is he doesn't own his own Dyno. Which isn't really an issue. Just had a lot of people pushing me towards Matt, worked out okay. I think once you get to know him he's cool. We were working on my car from 5PM until 9:30PM that night and he wasn't complaining that i was keeping him late or anything. He gave me a really good price too because the first 3 hours of being on the dyno I was 80% of the time dealing with the guy in UK / waiting for email replies.

Yeah, i'll edit it to Coilovers, Sway bars aswell i guess in the future (They're pretty cheap aye?)

I believe the tyres are Accelera, 245 and 275. Needed something fairly cheap for now.

600HP is HUGE. You'll need to do a lot to keep the car running if you do plan on running it for a little bit at that HP. Even at 450HP i can see some issues arrising, but only time will tell. I'm assuming you car is a 6/MT?

Fair enough, get coil overs when ever as prices stay the same, RRP for sways is 320 front and 280 back or something but look here http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/368787-whiteline-sway-bars-for-sale/ both for $460!!! Get them if you can, seriously the best thing you can do. Takes no time at all to put them in.

I was on Kumo KU31 245/285 and now was thinking of pilot super sport but went to hankook k12 evo as they are jsut as good but much cheaper. Getting them any day now.

Yeah alot of work being done to engine. Well i actually brought another engine to work on while i drive my car..

Full forged, camed and machined :)

You guys are inspiring me... please don't inspire to much! :D

How will the standard gearbox hold up to those numbers?

Depends if you have CD009 gearbox or not.. if so then i cant find a limit, thats all people upgrade to really.. With 5At with shift kit and Torque Converter for 400 at the wheels

Im gearing mine up for a HKS SC kit at the start of next year. I keep moving away from the tubrbo kits as SC seems so much ezyr and less hassle with the exhaust compnents i think ill get the Transgo kit and also the spacer to. Can you remember the model of the transgo kit that you got?

  • 3 weeks later...

Can you remember the model of the transgo kit that you got?

Sorry for the late reply. My Transgo kit was this one exactly.

Hope that helps.

Can i get an idea of how much you purchased

  • KurumaZ Front bumper
  • ChargeSpeed Rear Bumper
  • Impul Side Skirt

Thanks :)

And car is looking great, but i reckon you should slap on some jdm rims, like work vs-xx or bbs lm's :D

Hey mate. All three will be replica's and Purchased from www.strafeautomotive.com. I purchased:

  • Kurma Z Front
  • Impul Sides
  • Chargespeed /w Carbon Rear
  • Matte Finish Grill for Kurma Z Front
  • Black Xenon headlights V2

Amounting to the following amount: $1435 USD.

Maybe if i get serious about performance I might get some performance rims. But until then i'll wear my pretty one tonne rims. Haha.

nice powerfigures, about the same power im putting out.

i would be interested in purchasing your stock front and rear bars if you want to get rid of them. :)

Its a quick ride hey? :) I don't plan on selling my stock bodykit as its handy to have in case of a crash.

how much do the exhaust cost?

The Exhaust came in two parts. Motordyne Tuning Pipes and Motordyne Shockwave TDX2. The Tuning Pipes were $525 USD, the TDX2 was $1585 USD. Plus shipping + Installation. Probably ended up to be around 3 grand.

Wow damn $1435, is that including shipping? And grill you mean the mesh piece? Not a grill that replaces the oem one right? You getting poly or fb? Got any idea how long shipping takes? Sorry for all the questions as im looking at purchasing something similiar.

    • There's plenty of OEM steering arms that are bolted on. Not in the same fashion/orientation as that one, to be sure, but still. Examples of what I'm thinking of would use holes like the ones that have the downward facing studs on the GTR uprights (down the bottom end, under the driveshaft opening, near the lower balljoint) and bolt a steering arm on using only 2 bolts that would be somewhat similarly in shear as these you're complainig about. I reckon old Holdens did that, and I've never seen a broken one of those.
    • Let's be honest, most of the people designing parts like the above, aren't engineers. Sometimes they come from disciplines that gives them more qualitative feel for design than quantitive, however, plenty of them have just picked up a license to Fusion and started making things. And that's the honest part about the majority of these guys making parts like that, they don't have huge R&D teams and heaps of time or experience working out the numbers on it. Shit, most smaller teams that do have real engineers still roll with "yeah, it should be okay, and does the job, let's make them and just see"...   The smaller guys like KiwiCNC, aren't the likes of Bosch etc with proper engineering procedures, and oversights, and sign off. As such, it's why they can produce a product to market a lot quicker, but it always comes back to, question it all.   I'm still not a fan of that bolt on piece. Why not just machine it all in one go? With the right design it's possible. The only reason I can see is if they want different heights/length for the tie rod to bolt to. And if they have the cncs themselves, they can easily offer that exact feature, and just machine it all in one go.
    • The roof is wrapped
    • This is how I last did this when I had a master cylinder fail and introduce air. Bleed before first stage, go oh shit through first stage, bleed at end of first stage, go oh shit through second stage, bleed at end of second stage, go oh shit through third stage, bleed at end of third stage, go oh shit through fourth stage, bleed at lunch, go oh shit through fifth stage, bleed at end of fifth stage, go oh shit through sixth stage....you get the idea. It did come good in the end. My Topdon scan tool can bleed the HY51 and V37, but it doesn't have a consult connector and I don't have an R34 to check that on. I think finding a tool in an Australian workshop other than Nissan that can bleed an R34 will be like rocking horse poo. No way will a generic ODB tool do it.
    • Hmm. Perhaps not the same engineers. The OE Nissan engineers did not forsee a future with spacers pushing the tie rod force application further away from the steering arm and creating that torque. The failures are happening since the advent of those things, and some 30 years after they designed the uprights. So latent casting deficiencies, 30+ yrs of wear and tear, + unexpected usage could quite easily = unforeseen failure. Meanwhile, the engineers who are designing the billet CNC or fabricated uprights are also designing, for the same parts makers, the correction tie rod ends. And they are designing and building these with motorsport (or, at the very least, the meth addled antics of drifters) in mind. So I would hope (in fact, I would expect) that their design work included the offset of that steering force. Doesn't mean that it is not totally valid to ask the question of them, before committing $$.
