Nissan RB Engine

i live my current internet life through my phone, so editing wikipedia is really not something i want to be doing at the moment lol (am on pc right now but not for long).

also sure there will be other users that know more than me so i leave it open for someone else to edit the wiki

but yeah this wiki needs some serious edits and additions

things that come to mind:

"produced from 1980-2004." ---produced from 1980? wouldnt produced pertain to production for the market? meaning the first RBs were in R31s which were produced mid 80s and not 1980.

"RB20P - single-cam (94 PS @5600 rpm and 142 N·m @2400 rpm)" ---D,E,S,T,TT are explained but P is not in the list (but is mentioned at the bottom of the RB20 section).

"The RB20E was also fitted to some Holden Commodores (the VL Commodore) sold in New Zealand and Australia"--- RB20E released in AUS?

"The RB20DET-R was used in the Nissan Skyline 2000GTS-R (HR31). It is limited to 800 units." should probably be a bit more info like improvements and such.

Photos- instead of RB20DET into 240sx pic, it should be of a standard RB20DET with silver rocker covers and stock IC piping actually in the vehicle it originally came in.

RB24 section should mention RB24 hybrid.

RB25 section should mention the differences with late model series 2 engines like CAS and such.

RB26DETT section should include the Autech Skyline26s RB26DE(if recognised as a nissan engine. i reckon it should be added anyway)

"Nissan Skyline GT-R BCNR33 AUTECH Var."---should be edited to say BCNR33 Autech 40th Anniversary 4 door GT-R.

also wasnt the development of the original RB26 a joint venture between nissan and reinik?

RB26DETT Z2---wasnt there also a Z1 in the prototype or is it not important enough for this wiki?

"Four models of 3.0 L RB30 were produced from 1987 - 1991:"---more like 1985-1990??

"RB30E - fuel-injected single-cam (114 kW @ 5200 rpm, 247 N·m (25.2 kgf·m) @ 3600 rpm)"---no mention of use in VL commodore

then

"RB30ET VL Commodore - fuel-injected single-cam turbo (150 kW @ 5600 rpm, 296 N·m @ 3200 rpm)"---RB30ET mentioned to be in the VL commodore leading people to believe that all VLs have turbo 30s when in actual fact they were only installed in some Calais. right??

"The turbocharged RB30ET (producing 150 kW) was found only in the VL Commodore (available in all models)"---once again stating that Commodores are all turbocharged.

RB30DE section should have a write up about people making these hybrids.

RB30DET section should include RIPS achievements with RB30DETS (used to be in here but has been removed. maybe no longer allowed or something)

should also maybe go into some further detail for block preparation and any other such useful information.

should be an RB30 stroker section talking about Nitto 3.2L,RIPS 3.3L and Spool 3.4L stroker kits

should also be mention of available stroker kits for RB26 (2.7,2.8,2.9,3.0,3.1). not too sure if this is totally relevant to the wiki because these kits are aftermarket and not a released product from nissan but neither was the RB30DET so yeah hmm

anyone got anything else to add or correct?

someone should be keen to update the wiki

cheers!

The RB30DET was available in non-Calais commodores. My mate had a turbo wagon.

But another flaw is that Holden didnt just buy they rights for the RB30, the actually imported the entire engine. When the exchange rate dropped they became too expensive, which is at least one reason why the VN didnt have the RB30. The 3.8 was rough as guts compared to the smooth 30.

A special limited edition the LMRB26 was also built during this time by General Motors in Australia.

LOL GTFO!

Am going to have a crack at this chickenjibblet right now ;)

Edited by 045HOW

  • Delete LMRB26 crap.
  • Changed RB production date.
  • Added "P" to the letter indication section.
  • RB20E Australia issue has already been resolved by someone else.
  • Changed Autech GTR name.Added ENR33 and RS4 to Chassis used on Autech GTR and 260RS

The RB26DETT was used in the following cars:

  • Changed rb30 production start year to 1985.
  • Added VL commodore to lower rated n/a rb30 specs.
  • Added Stroker Section. (Feedback on this greatly appreciated :) )

Stroker Kits

There are many Stroker Kits Available for RB Engines(Some Only Available as proper kits while others being achievable by using cranks from other engines, for example a GTR crank in an RB25DET will make it a 2.6L as the Bore is the same as an RB26DETT).

Achievable Stroker Displacements for RB Engines:

  • RB20 - 2.2,2.4
  • RB25 - 2.6,2.7,2.8

    • So, I put my boat on a boat. First of all, I'm going to come out and say it. Why is Tasmania not considered a holy goal, an apex that all road-legal modified cars go to, to experience? This place is an absolute wonderland of titanic proportions. If people are already getting club runs for once in a lifetime 30 person cruises to Tassy then I've never seemed to see it. It is like someone replaced the entire place with an idyllic wonderland for cars, and all of the people living there with paid actors who are kind, humble, and friendly. Dear god. After doing a lap of almost all of the place I've found that it's a great way to find out all of the little things that the car isn't doing quite right and a great way to figure it all out. All in all, I drove for 4 hours a day for a week and nothing broke. I didn't even need to open the engine bay. This is by all means a great success, but it has left me with a list of things to potentially address. I also now have a 3D printed wheel fitment tool which annoyingly hasn't got any threads in it to actually assemble it. I might be able to tape it together to check the sizing I actually want to use, but it'll likely involving pulling the shocks out to properly measure travel at least at the front, and probably raise the car while I'm at it, at least in the rear. I scraped on quite a few things and I'm not sure how else to go about it. I was taking anything with a bump at what felt like 89 degree angles. And address those 10 other tasks. And wash the car. God damn it is dirty. And somehow, the weather was perfect the entire time - And because I was on the top of Mt Wellington it turns out it was very much about to freeze up there. I did something I typically never do and took some photos up there in what must have been -10 and the foggy felt like suspended ice, rather than mere fog. If you own a car in Australia, you owe it to yourself to do it.
    • Damn that was hilarious, and a bit embarrassing for skylines in general 😂 vintage car life ey. That R33 really stomped. Pretty entertaining stuff
    • Hi, I have a r32 gtr transmission. Does any of you guys have an idea how much power it will hold with the billet center plate and stock gearset? At what power level and use did yours brake with or without billet plate? Thanks, Oystein Lovik
    • Saw this replica police car based on a Mitsubishi Starion XX parked next to a 'police box' (it's literally a box) in Hirohata, Himeji City in Hyogo prefecture the other day. It's owned by Morii-san who is a local Mitsubishi Starion enthusiast. According to a local radio station blog post, he always wanted to make a police car himself based on ones he saw in his favourite Manga comics.  As it's illegal to modify a car to look like a police car and drive on the road, Morii-san tried many times to get permission from Aboshi police station headquarters nearby. They refused initially by after they got tired of that they granted him permission. However, the car can only be displayed on private property and obviously can't be registered as long as the police livery is present. The car was completed at a cost of 1.5 million yen (US$ 10,000) in addition to the car cost. A location was chosen outside Hirohata Police box where the car can easily been seen from the street. Morii-san has two other Starion road cars, both widebody GSR-VRs.
