Yeah functions/aux inputs/logging that in a street car, you simply don't need at all.

So hence you pay a nice fat premium for nothing.

Nistune or PFC all the way for this guy, will be half the price. Clearly stated in the first post was that the turbo and other modifications were not going to be touched.

Compared to the vipec they are half-assed... I'm not saying the Pfc is shit.. Because its not... Vipec is just better...

So many more functions... Do some research on it mate...

Yeh I know what it can do, I was gonna get it my car. Dismissed it as unnecessary and therefore expensive.

I was in a similar position.

What i decided to do is get:

RSP Hybrid Turbo

New 550cc Injectors

New Uprated Fuel pump

New Z32 AFM with plug

RSP Reprogrammed ECU (same as nistune really)

The whole lot including postage was $3600 at the current exchange rates. Just gotta find a free day to get it set up.

Thanks for all the responses guys much appreciated especially for someone like me who is still relatively new to the skyline scene. :worship:

Ive spoke to a mate of mine whos had experience with r33;s before he also has recommended the viptec - so thats what im going for.

Are there any other major noticeable power gains etc. you can feel after your car has an upgraded ecu + tune?

Edited by rdirty3

You will not get any more power from the Vipec for $3500 than you would from the Nistune for $1200 to $1500 installed and tuned.

However if you are set on a Vipec you should get an extra 20 -30 kw maybe more - there are too many variables- and if your coils, plugs etc etc are all in good nick it should drive nicely.

On the upside you will not have to get an elecronic boost controller as with the right solenoid the Vipec will do that and will also be able to ditch your afm and won't have to upgrade it if you decide to go for 250+kw later.

Ye none of the ECU's will give you any more power than the other.

But you will notice the increase in power and more so drive ability etc. Still think 3.5k ECU option for a relatively stock car, with no major mod plans... is wasting valuable money. With the money you have left you could get a decent set of tyres, or upgrade the brakes. Diff or clitch even.

All of which will offer far more benefit than the extra cash on the ECU for the same end result.

rdirty3 scroll down to R33 shootout http://www.strangelanding.com/skyline/flix/clips.shtml a car with a good suspension set up is fast than one with more power and standard suspension.

You'll be sold on the whiteline kit, i had the bars and bushes fitted 2 weeks ago, loving it!!!!!! I reckon get those and a cheaper ecu. Orrrrrrrr save up for another 12months get everything you want in one go, modding is addictive.

    • Hi from Canada, Both of my calipers are starting to fail. My car is a 2005 M35 Stagea ARX and I can't seem to find any parts or any cross reference caliper that would fit my car. Is there a company or a similar caliper that would fit and I could replace the OEM one. Or if anyone knows where I can find a new OEM. Any help is very appreciated. Let me know!
    • Maf is a question mark but TPS  I have set at 0.47, the fact that I’m getting proper voltage range out of it with the key on leads me to believe it’s functioning properly. I’m getting proper voltages on basically everything. I still need to look up voltage ranges for z32 maf and test that
    • Honestly no not at all, but it’s a very basic tune, it’s stock injectors q45 tps and z32 maf. Other than that it’s a completely stock base map. The file is from nistune and from my understanding if it was tune related I would be able to unplug maf and tps and it would still start even if it was a really shitty start. I have tried starting it with coolant temp, maf, and tps unplugged none of those 3 togethor or individually changes anything

    • What does it look like with highway driving? And yes, I had a similar thought as Duncan. It looks quite similar in my Stagea and I have made myself accept it as normal. Might have to look into it some day   Highway gets as low as 10l/100km on my end so I'm not as worried about it being a mechanical issue. More likely just the tune on the haltech.
