Looks very good...i have clay barred a few cars i have owned now and it makes such a big difference to how the car comes up!!!

Definitely recommend spending a few hours doing it to really bring out the shine in your paint.

Can i ask who the seller was on ebay. Have heard there are some crap CF wraps. Yours looks really nice.

I hose my car and clean the windows once a week, sometimes I need to pour some water on bird poo to soften it a bit.

Every couple of months it gets Turtle wash and wax using a old T-shirt, yeah I know Im spoiling it but hey.

Whites a bitch like that.

Work mate lives up-wind of the steel works at port kembla. white roof, blue car. He spends lots of time maintaining it but its the white that shows everything.

Just a note,

If you drop the clay bar, chuck it. Don't try to pull the bits of dirt out, chuck it or you could scratch your clear. A tip, use small (as practical) pieces so if you drop it, your not wasting much.

P.S You need to wrap your ashtray lid too

Now what you should have done is use final inspection light cleanse after claying to remove left over clay , washing does not remove it , its likely you have sealed clay under your final coat .

Heres the order :

Wash

Claybar

Cleanse

Polish

Cleanse

Wax , not Carnuba rubbish

Lower car STAT !!!!!!!

Your welcome thumbsup.gif

Haha, definately need get some lowering status. I hate 4x4 status. Im surprised it took so long for someone to say that :P.

Ash tray lid will get wrapped dont worry :).

Also hmmm couldve used a cleanse, but ah well. Ive clay barred quite a few cars and never had a problem thumbsup.gif

@Babyskyline - CF Wrap There you go. On sale for another 9 days :)

Im surprised nobody's said, What the hell are you doing washing the GTR at carlovers / whatever its called in your area.

Especially on a dark coloured car, with the fine scratches & swirl marks those brooms leave behind. Next time your at a servo at night have a good look at your paint under their fluro lights,, you'll see em.

It depends how pedantic you wanna be i suppose, but when i first got my car, the paint had never really been looked after so it was a big job,, i spent three long days claying, removing swirl marks and polishing with an orbital, then waxing. After spending that long getting it up to scratch, there was no way in hell i was gonna go to carlovers and wash it with the same broom that oldmate just washed his dirtbike and his 4wd with. even if you do spray the broom before ya start.

The CF wrap looks pretty good,, how hard was it to apply without stuffing it up ?

Haha You think Im a rookie? No way will I touch any of my cars with those pieces of sh..... brooms. Because I dont have my own tap at home, I go at night with my own bucket of equipment and just use their water. I do actually care about my car haha.

The CF wrap isnt that hard to apply, all you need is a hair dryer and a little bit of patience. The beauty of it is, even if you stuff up a little bit by creasing it or something you just peel it back and start again. Its very forgiving.

how well does it stick? I have had issues with the carbon wrap I ordered (different supplier) and firstly it doesn't stick too well around edges and now its starting the shrink where I used heat to mould it

Nice work on the after hours car wash. I've never actually done that but I've almost done it a few times.

I did think you might have been doing that until I saw the other cars in the background.

Ever had anybody say anything ?

@ Adam - Its only been on for 2 days. So far so good. I hope it doesnt start peeling, and if it does ah well it only cost $5 dollars :).

@Dan - After hours I get no trouble, people actually come up to me and say "thats a great idea, wish I brought my bucket". Haha. And yeh, friday night was exceptionally busy. I did not expect it. But no one bothered me. And I was there for 3 hours haha.

  • 3 weeks later...

Aawesome, might have to do mine when I have to time to do it right, I got the CF wrap sitting there waiting.

I must say I got a bit board and now my phone looks rather cool wrapped in CF :)

Did you end up doing you ash tray, I was wondering how it would go with the tigher curves

    • It is hard to be specific half way across the world...but it *seems* like it might have a minor issue. Is the idle stable and does it rev smoothly? I would not expect any pops out of what I am assuming is a standard ECU, standard tune, standard exhaust. You can use Nissan Data Scan to find out exactly what is happening when it runs, the cable/software is reasonably affordable if you are not planning on changing the ECU (which hopefully you are not with an NA skyline) BTW your mileage may not be that far off, these are heavy old tech cars, and being NA might mean you use a heavy foot to keep up with traffic....
    • Hey guys! Y'all are the masters so figured I'd check in on a few items here. - My engine sounds ever-so-slightly more raspy than the other NA RB25s I've listened to. It's barely noticeable but definitely a slightly different sound. - When I back off the throttle at high RPM, I will sometimes get a pop out of the exhaust, assuming this can be diagnosed as misfire. Some history on the car: - Had an exhaust leak in auction sheet but was claimed to be fixed by seller (bought from USA importer).  - Car's coil packs and sparks were replaced when it was sold to me, but unsure on what the gap is and whether the coil packs are correct.  - A prior mechanic had misdiagnosed a pilot or throwout bearing sound as LSPI/detonation. Had played with timing a bit, pops/raspy sound of engine just got worse. Got timing reset. - Had failed emissions a few times. First time went in as is, failed. Second time, replaced cat, still failed, running rich as hell. Third time replaced o2 sensor, passed. Car still smells gassy though. - Timing belt and valve cover gasket also replaced.  - Gas mileage is... low. about 350-400K per tank.  Any idea if I'm having any serious issues here or does this all sound like normal old NA RB stuff and I'm fine to drive it with the pops/slightly raspy engine? If it'll help, I can get drop a video of the sound of the engine.
    • So....to find any R chassis part number, get your VIN (will be something like ER33-xxxxxx for you) and go to: https://www.amayama.com/en/genuine-catalogs/nissan and enter it. From there you have access to a web version of Nissan's part system, FAST. It is a bit tricky to get used to, so maybe have a shot and post up what you think.  You can also search by general model but note in some cases your car might have different options so VIN is safest.  On diagram 211 I got 14075-75T16 for Connector, Water Hose If I search for part 14053‑21U10 that you posted, that is also a water hose but not the one bolted to the plenum and 14075‑04U00 is the fitting where the water hose goes into the block.
    • Yeah now we are talking I much prefer coolers in the front middle because it lessens the chance of a small bump to a corner stopping the whole event. I was thinking the AT cooler can move out of the radiator, delete the AT/engine coolant interwarmer and mount a separate cooler with a thermoswitch somewhere further back as is common in racing, that would be one thing. Beyond that, the engine oil cooler is an obvious one to move to the wheel arch, potentially one on each side, but unused space is an issue. I did have a earlier pic with the bumper off but it doesn't show how busy the corners are: DS is full of the auto driving sensors and PS is totally fully of windscreen washer fluid reservoir But ultimately I was hoping to keep the AC, and the water/air heat exchanger is fundamental so it is not just the radiator that needs to be in front BTW here's airflow to the rad as it ran at the track (one horn is gone now and I'll remove the lights next time):
