Gday all,

Signed up to the forums a couple of days ago but have been trolling the stagea discussion thread for over a month now and have just bought a series 2 RS4 dayz.

It's great to see a car that's still (relatively) rare on the road but with SO much information and support from enthusiasts. My background is an auto electrical trade (which i pulled the pin on after 5 years a couple of years ago) so i'm hoping to contribute as best I can to the forum. Also if anyone needs some clarification with SA road laws and motor vehicle regulations I will also help as best as I can.

I'm still a noob when it comes to Stageas but the discussion pretty much covers everything so i cant see my self not being bale to find information when I need it!. It was a big step for a Toyota enthusiast driving a JZX100/1JZ to cross over to the Nissan/RB scene but I couldn't be happier with my new set of wheels!

Z32 lol...Engine out

But yeah, Its a 2 stage process to get the filter out of the Snoarer, unscrew from top, place down on X-member get underneath, place new filter on X-member, and try and thread it blind from the top

Haven't done my first service on the stagea yet but I can just imagine what the boffins at toyota were thinking when they decided on the location for the filter...

..."hmmm lets put it where only small children might be able to access it, lets make it so some how it tightens itself tenfold so that you can barely get it off and lets put it right here so it pisses out oil all over the engine mount when ever you do a service!"

so true mang, so true.

You haven't worked on a 1g-fe, now that has a hard oil filter to change. :P

RB is a walk in the park.

To the OP - Welcome aboard

Not the centrifugal filter, the screw on Z614

i'm sure there are some other bad ones, but the skyline isn't that bad. the fwd sr20 (at least in the n15 pulsar) is pretty bad. you can see the filter, just can't get to it without having to have your wrist at 90 degrees, while also having it up against the head. the filter on the 2000 model corollas is also a bit of a pain. it's right next to the exhaust.

best i've seen was the 3.5L v6 in the magna. it basically has a factory relocation kit. you look under the car and there it is, hanging down with nothing around it. you can get both hands on it. not contortionism, no burnt or scratched hands. no tipping oil all over the place trying to negotiate it out.

2008 corolla is good. Filter is directly above the sump plug and on a right angle, so absolutely no mess to clean up when you remove it or drain the oil.

    • Have you done the Ignition Sync Wizard in the AEM software?
    • Find out what RPM it was idling at with the IACV unplugged. It's very weird that the rpm didn't change at all, and then it stalled. When it stalls is it nearly like a switch off, like you've turned the engine off? Or is it more stutters and sputters and coughs to death over a few seconds? Or does the RPM just slowly keep going down and down? Have you done a test of trying to start it with the AFM unplugged? Does it still die?     If you Follow Josh's advice on using Nistune to check the voltages (which is a perfect method!) if you see anything out of wack voltage wise, THEN get the multimeter out and read the voltage directly at the sensor. If the two vary, then you're now looking for a wiring issue vs a sensor issue. So be aware, what the ECU sees, may not be what the sensor is actually saying too...
    • You very likely need to get it on a dyno and tune it. My assumption is, you've got an RB25DET tune in it, which has a different manifold, different injectors, and different cams as a minimum. What O2 sensor are you running?   When you say it runs extremely rich from idle all the way to redline, is this just free revving it you see that?
    • I seem to the be only person that is using a Haltech 2500 on an NA motor, I've installed a Bosch DBW throttle body to the OEM intake manifold and am having problems maintaining AFR even with the wideband o2.  It will run extremely rich at idle and up to redline, but under load it will go extremely lean in the 20s and i'm essentially having to rev it over 4k and feather the clutch to get it up to speed.  I've read a few other threads of about the butterfly, it seems removing the vacuum to it is supposed to have it remain open, i've noticed no difference under 4k with the vacuum line to it plugged.  I'm hoping someone here has had luck using the NA manifold with Haltech, and if they happen to have a tune for it.
    • I don't know any details, but I really wouldn't be surprised if they do it as a LHD only version, at least initially.
