R33 Diff Problems - 1 Wheel Drive

hey guys,

bought a new r33 gtst a couple of months ago, and just got it registered, everything is working fine except my ABS (which isnt the relays ) and the diff,

upon jacking up the rear of the car, i turned one wheen by hand - the other didnt move, happened both sides. then turned the car on and gave it a few revs and only the left wheel would turn...

basicaly is my diff just stuffed beyond repair, or is this a common thing? or something shimming can fix?

It sounds like it's broken. You shouldn't be able to turn just one wheel. Even an open diff should turn the other wheel in the opposite direction. And even though you 'can' shim a viscous diff, it's not actually a real fix for anything, and it's not going to fix your problem.

mine would only turn one wheel when jacked up, they are quite loose from factory, fresh oil, and it was much better

zebra. That's a valid point - he didn't say if it was in neutral or in gear when he turned it by hand.

yeah, when turned by hand it was in neutral, and we put it in gear and turned them with the engine - same problem.

if given a bit more juice the right wheel will start turning very slightly.

think it is worth trying new oil?

Likw I said, fresh oil made it better.

But it's a Viscious diff, it works like a torque converter in an auto, needs rpm to lock up, so will always single spin when turning by hand or at low speeds
