I have just got my hands on a nice Stagea rs260 -97 and are about to get it registered here in Sweden.. I have a tow bar for it and in the registration process here to make it road legal I need to prove what the stagea are allowed to tow in order to have the towbar mounted and use it leagely.. It is not enough haveing papers for the towbar and what it can tow. I need to prove what the viecle are approved to tow. I have serched around on the net for a week and alot of hours but came up empty.

Have anyone an Idé were I can find any info on this?? Nissan here are not any help. They will only support viecles that are sold in Sweden. I have tried to find a e-mail adress for any Nissan related workshop or office in japan but they don´t seem to like email very much sence I can´t find any emailadress to them or to autech.

Has anyone found anything about towing in any sales broshyrs, service manuals, owners manuals, accessorie catalogs etc?

Any help finding this out is greatly appreciated..

from what i have "HEARD", apparently stageas did not come factory with tow bar's, so there is no rated towing capacity for it.

i could be wrong? someone correct me if i am.

thats not entirely true. i have seen pics of japanese towbars on stageas (unsure if they were genuine), but they were rated very low (1000kg from memory).

Thankyou for your input..

Wolverine what brand is your towbar?

Next time anybody is going to the Nissan Dealership in Austraila PLEASE check if they can give any info on the Stageas S1 -97 maximum towing weight. Pick a modle that is closest to the rs 260. A 4wd with manual gearbox..

Was any modle of the Stagea ever sold in Austrailia?

They were never sold here.

I crawled under and had a look. I can't read Japanese to tell you the brand but the numbers listed are:

2000kg 750kg 500kg

I am guessing the 2000kg relates to an electronically braked trailer.

I can photos although it is a little hard to get underneath to be able to see the tag.

Have a look in DIY sticky, under body parts. There is a section on tow bars.

I have looked through those 16 pages but I can´t find any info.. I already have a towbar I only need to prove for the athoreties here what the VEHICLE are allowed to tow not how much the towbars are approved for.

I am getting desperet here. I have no use of my car if I cant use it for towing stuff. I did not know how hard it was.. I thought it was easy when I saw alot of guys using it for towing. The athoreties here are extreamly bureaucratic. No one has anything from nissan somwhere? Like in a sales broshyrs, service manuals, owners manuals, accessorie catalogs etc?

Not if the towbar are rated higher than what Nissan designed the car to handle. Ether way in this case it doesn´t matter. The athoretis here in Sweden needs to know what the car it self are alowed to tow from the manufacturer. Sence the Stagea is not sold in Europe Nissan here in Sweden is not intrested to help me very much. That is why I am looking elsewere. That´s the athoreties laws and rules and it is up to me to prove it in order to make it road legal.

I am not intrested in were to get a tow bar or what the towbar manufacturer rate their towbare to etc. I already have a towbar. I need ANY info from Nissan or Autech what they approve the car to tow to make the athoreties here happy so I can use the car with the tow bar legaly..

Just asked the Uk Stagea Forum for thoughts and got this:

Quoted from Rasored

"3.5 tonnes for both car and trailor MAX , any more and a licence is needed as is classed as truck/lorry

Stagea weighs 1,750Kg

so max weight Stagea is able to tow is 1,250Kg"

Quoted from GREENMACHINE

"ther is a law in the uk about towing wieght but its not related to the vehicle's performance capabilities.

I think it is 75% of the vehicle being used but could be wrong.

As to what a Stagea will tow - The answer is quite a lot !

I know at least one who has towed a huge caravan without issue . Thats not to say its was legal"

Not sure if it helps at all but might give you some ideas where to look for answers

Bubba mentioned towing instructions from the stagea manual in another thread 'duncans torque split........', OP it might be worth giving him a pm!

"The are plenty of warnings in the manual about how to tow and what not to do.. but absolutely no warnings in regards to the 2WD mode.."

Finaly somthing to go on.. Thanks alot.. I´ll check it out..

I got 2 asweres today. One from I guy that works for Nissan Nordic and he said after a week of reserch that it was a very rare car and that it was not designd for towing. I got the feeling that he gave me that answer because they couldn´t find information about it. The other place Dekra is a european certification company and thy couldn´t find any spec for the stagea..

Serch continue....

    • Given you're running a 2.8 and my 2.5 is not really like for like, I suspect there could be a bit more timing you could give it. What is the kW yield per degree you're putting through it? Here's my E85 map to give you an idea, where it was I could still get another 3~4kW per degree thrown at it.
    • It turns out that Setrab make a fan specifically for the oil cooler which is great and I've installed it with minimal swearing. I removed my 2x 12in push fans from the front of my aircon condenser and wired them into this. My main thermo fans kick on when I use the aircon anyway and would effectively already be working as puller fans through the condensor which is infront of the rad. The push fans (understandably) didn't really do much in the config they were previously in so now they're out. Now we're on to the "Oil fan doesn't really do much either!". Yes I'll duct it next if it does nothing in heavy use which it shouldn't. But hey, the object exists and fits great and is cool. Let me have this. The car is still in the "do my fittings leak oil now? do my wheels actually rub?" phase. I did a spirited drive on them and didn't hear or feel anything. Then I got back home and noticed there were grind marks on the inside of the rims, though I couldn't see where they were touching I got out the grinder and attacked the suspects. Note: I do not know how to use a grinder. Then I realised I had dragged my new rims across my concrete driveway before I did this drive. I didn't think I had damage at that time when I briefly looked...... but remembered this occurred after I did all the angle grinding. The grinding on the wheels in some very specific spots. It's not around the whole rim for example, which lines up with dragging it across concrete more than hitting a suspension component for even 1 full rotation. So everything is currently painted and taped up and I need to test it some more to see if it really IS rubbing, but from inside the car it doesn't feel like it is. In other news I attempted to do a before and after comparison of the heads/cam upgrade thing. Dynos lie, everything is in different measurements. Here is the data from the sandown back straight. Car go faster than before. Vroom vroom.
    • Here's my base ignition. +3 correction to redline when shooting water/meth which is always on. Looking at my old ignition table, I should be able to add 1-2 degree's next time I'm on the dyno.  Let me know your thoughts.
    • Given what I know now - same haha, but this was 12 years ago with second hand 740cc Nismo injectors in my S15 daily, I was too busy hunting elsewhere for the issue to even look at the injectors, running through some cleaner was a happy coincidence haha
    • Not a terrible idea. But if I ever had concerns that my injectors were sufficiently dirty to be causing me a problem, they would be out of the engine and onto the actual injector cleaner/testing bench.
