Hi all, I have just installed a high flowed standard turbo and hybrid super monster i/c to my '94 car, standard computer (had the opportunity to get the turbo now so thought I may aswell put it on, plan to get pfc soon). When i test drive the car at my normal 0.85 bar (avc-r) it pulled well to 4-5 grand then dropped a bit before pulling real hard from 6ish grand to redline. Turning the boost down to 0.75 bar helped, and at 0.7 bar it's barely noticeable, suffice to say this never happened with the standard turbo. I already have a bigger fuel pump and adjustable regulator.

Is this the infamous r33 standard computer power dip? Is so, sh*t it's severe!

Thanks in advance....

yup.. stock ECU isn't designed for turbo upgrades.. thats what happens generally.

Didn't whoever installed the turbo tell you this before they put it on?

I purchased the turbo second hand from another customer where I get work done on my car sometimes, apparently this guy ran it on his car with standard ecu for a while before getting pfc aswell, so it thought bugger it, i have the turbo, may aswell put it on. I put it on myself in the garage while i was installing my fmic. I had heard of the standard ecu power dip but never experienced it, so yes i didn't expect the ecu to handle it too well. In a way that's good though, at least I know the turbo is flowing more air at the same boost pressure than the old one.

I was just a bit worried that something wasn't right (esp because I put it on myself), but all seems well, just need the pfc.

just a quick question guys, I plan on going down this same path soon, and hadn't been aware of the computer prob.. what is the "pfc" is it a new chip?

I actually installed a boost controller a week ago, and aside from that it's stock, but i've noticed in the last couple of days, that my car is doing something similar, but dying at about 3-4k then kicking in again... turbo and ic are stock, could this be computer related too? My boost levels haven't changed though... It sounds and feels like something is either slipping or losing power/air then jumping back up.... This only happens after 1st gear. I'm mighty confused... any ideas???

Hi guys

Im experiencing the same as madmoomoo at about 3-4k, since a week after my boost controller was installed.Only does it on 12psi everything is stock apart from filter.Never does it in 1st gear.

Please shed some light its really annoying having V8s catching me when i change into 2nd!!!

I have experienced a similar problem with a minor power glitch between 3k - 4k after installing a turbosmart E-boost. It doesn't matter what boost setting I am running (ie. setting 1 is standard boost) the glitch is always there but maybe not as severe as you guys seem to be experiencing. I don't really notice it when on full power (traffic light drags) but noticable when driving normally

If I turn the E-boost off the glitch is gone

I have standard Turbo, FMIC & Mines computer

The next upgrade I am planning is a Power FC and hoping that with proper tuning I can eliminate this glitch

any piggyback fuel management hardware can fix this problem... (ie. s-afc or e-manage) but thats more of a bandaid solution. best option would be to go for a whole replacement ecu like a powerfc or wolf3d if you can afford it.

    • I've been building a 26/30 for a few years now. I've had the head built with all the good stuff. I had a 32 gtr but blew it up and yes its all going into a vl but im looking for some advice from some RB nuts on pros and cons on putting a 26 head on a 30 bottom end is it worth it Works are as follows Head -Extensive porting 1mm oversized supertech valves Supertech double springs Supertech valve guides Supertech titanium retainers Tomei solid lifters Tomei 270 x 10.25 cams Head drain Bottom end series 2 rb30 block Cp ceramic coated pistons Eagle rods Romac balancer Oil restrictions  O ringed blah blah spent a fortune And will get a girdle because the 30s arent used to handling that much rpm Nitto billet oil pump Hypertune plenum 6boost mani Refurbed astra pump thats the cover for it in the boot I did have a precision 6262 but sold it because drag car life. Currently building the ass end full 4 link floater rear end with a 2 speed  But the dilemma i have is my mate rekens I should just stick with the 30 head for reliability. Has any one had any issues with mounting the 26 head ie compression blowing gaskets etc. Just looking for some advice from people who have gone down this route. Here's some photos. Blew the oil pump in the gtr and decided to rip the motor out at the time and do a full build only to find it had been a repairable write off so went down this path.

    • lol no cats running str pipes … might put the high flow back on but I suspect it might effect my ignition timing a bit.
    • That looks a bit like yellowing to me. If the rear bar was looking like that from rich idle, I'd ask the question, do you have a catalytic converter fitted, and fully working?
    • Oh yeah gets really bad down here. I’ll have to upgrade the heater and wind screen wipers as well for optimal performance.
