as much as I'm not a McLaren fan (because of Hamilton), I hope it proves to be the fastest car early on and the other teams rush to update their broken noses to something similar.

But it sounds like it won't be possible for those broken nosed cars to fit the regs with a McLaren shape nose without a major change to the height of the chassis where the front suspension attaches, so we'll be stuck with them all season.

I guess we'll get used to it...

Please please please Jenson win the first three races on the trot for the sake of your sport!!!!

I think you'd want the complete opposite to happen. Have the McLaren right at the back and the most pig ugly car up the front. If the McLaren demolishes all then the FIA wont have any reason to change the rules to force less ugly cars. "See, they can do it with a low nose, whats your excuse?"

McLaren have been saying the car will change between the launch and Jerez. Anyone wanna bet it pulls out of the garage at Jerez with a stepped nose like everyone else? (I hope not!)

*shudder*

no way Josè

Pause the video at 3.42 for something interesting on the nose

Are you talking about this

Red Bull’s RB8 immediately caught the eye in the paddock with a large nose mounted duct. It is though to feed air from the hump on the front of the chassis forward through the nose structure and down to the front wing – similar to a system used on the Mercedes W02 in 2011. It is thought that this approach increases front downforce but little is known about it. Sauber is also thought to have a similar design for its new C31, openly admitting that they have ‘a lot of developments in this area’.

The layout is legal as it is not driver operated so does not constitute a moveable aerodynamic device.

Will be good to see you mclaren boys posts following a stepped nose mclaren unveiling

'you know what... It's really pretty good looking!'

my reply will be- "this sucks, damn these new regs to hell", if such a thing eventuates

    • Thanks for the linkie. Certainly always a great deal of help when people post comparisons like these, but I think for now I'll stay away from any semi slicks. I did go ahead and order the sportcontact 7. My buddy has them on his modified A4 and he keeps saying how good they are. For my intended purposes these will probably work real well. I'll report on them once I had the chance to try them out
    • Talk about noisy. Even when I still had the Tomei under the car I could distinctly hear the tires rolling. And I doubt I ever will need maximum grip like on a track. My GTR will maybe never even see the 600hp mark and I need to get used to the car quite a bit before challenging the limits of its handling. For the next winter storage I think I will get a set of these rubber drive-on thingies that have a tire shaped base. Those supposedly really help prevent flat spots.
    • Well our climate is definitely way less hot overall and the weather can be quite picky at times. I just know that during normal road use or even spirited drives there is no way I'd be able to consistently stay in the operating temperature, and constantly changing the tire pressure would also be a royal pain.
    • Input shaft bearing. They all do it. There is always rollover noise in Nissan boxes - particularly the big box. Don't worry about it unless it gets really growly.
