Hey everyone,

Ive just finished a restoration #2 detail on Colins 34 Sedan!

I also detailed his engine bay, plastics, and interior

Here are some of the pics, unfortunately I didnt quite think the picture taking through, and some of the shots arent in the same spot, or some with flash and some without. however i hope you can still see the difference the detail made to his car!

Some of the most intensive work went into detailing his engine bay, as you can see, it was pretty dirty! Its still not 100% perfect, but after a decontamination with GPC, Xenit, and with some PERL on the plastics and gloss boost on the paintwork it came out alright!

After decontaminating areas like the door jambs and engine bay, i moved to the paintwork. starting with a clay black .. which ended up looking like

after the clay block, i moved onto machine polishing.

this is the condition of the car before the detail

and now after the 2 stages of machine polishing and 2 layers of sealant

i went all out with this, ensuring every single plastic trim was looking its best. window rubbers and the edges of his guards were also done.

exhaust tips:

and a clean of his interior, followed by protectant and some extra shine!

Brushes, degreaser, aerospace 303 or Carpro PERL, and some microfibres boom done :)

yeap for colins engine bay I used - FI's GPC and Xenit on the tougher spots, rinsed it off and applied PERL

i generally use simple green for this sort of stuff, but it needed something stronger and GPC was far more effective

How did the drivers side electric window panel come up after you cleaned it? All of my front electric window panels and centre console look like the driver side one you show in the thread. Have been considering wrapping them in carbon fibre wrap but if there is a way to properly clean them so they come up looking good I would consider doing that first.

hey mate

i believe thats cos the paint on it has melted. a clean doesnt really help in that area, and neither does any detailing product I have (believe me i tried :( ) - i tried to use both aerospace protectant and carpro PERL on it, but neither worked - the best way to get it looking good again is to remove them, sand them down and spray them - theres a few threads around the cosmetic section for it. you could probably try wrapping them in CF also though

it is a real bummer when I cant just respray and/or replace stuff in a detail - some of those small things just dont make the finished product look as good as it should :(

    • There's restrictor pills in the stock boost control hoses. That's how they set the amount that was bled off and hence the "high" boost setting. The usual mod in the day was to remove it and send the "high" boost setting up to about 14 psi.
    • Thanks Duncan, that's the best info I've read. Furthermore after learning about the PCM programming side controlling the factory boost solenoid, the purpose of the solenoid is to "bleed" boost when pin 25 is earthed, thus allowing spring pressure in the wastegate actuator to overcome diaphragm boost pressure, thus closing or reducing the position of the wastegate flap creating more boost as the turbo is able to spin faster. It's pretty cool to see a designated Pill to do exactly this, would have liked to have seen it with a tiny filter over the end for those moments in vacuum.  The constant bleed pill has now been removed completely from the system and solenoid boost control has been restored once again.   Case closed 😂
    • The wideband reading is meaningless if it's not running. Why are you using shitty old sidefeeds on any engine, let alone a Neo? What manifold and fuel rail are you using to achieve that? Beyond that, can't help you with AEM stuff as I've never been their ECU/CAS combo.
    • Manual boost controllers (where a little of the boost was bled off) were quite common back in the day, because they were cheap and easy. Generally they had a manual adjustment screw rather than being fixed like yours. Down side is they always bleed boost, not just when you want them to so an electronic boost controller that uses a solenoid will have less lag.
    • Hello , im new here and i have A31 home build  RB25det neo stock eng / turbo  aem ems 2 blue connector  aem 3.5 map aem cas disk aem wideband connected to ecu  355 lph pump 550 nismo yellow injectors side feed aftermarket regulator  and won’t start with base aem tuner basic tune eventually flipped cas 180 degree so it triggers on correct stroke not in exhaust cycle  Now it won’t start Wideband reads 10 and 11 at lowest fuel setting  and will share calibrations soon for aem tuner i think something is wrong in aem tuner    please if you have any information, am very grateful
