Hey guys,

Had a question RE HICAS, noticed this while driving, after i hit 80KMH + my steering starts turning to the left slowly until i hit about 100KMH but my car is still going straight (pic 1).

If i slow down to under 80KMH or HICAS light turns on my steering returns back to normal (pic 2).

weird...

time to remove HICAS?

I'm willing to bet that that steering wheel you have on there does not have a HICAS suitable hub. There is a steering angle sensor in the top of the column that gets driven by a pin on the back of the standard hub. With no drive pin, the HICAS computer gets no steering angle input and eventually goes out on fault. One of the behaviours it likes to do it to crank the steering wheel over to the left like that (what is actually happening is it is setting a rear steer angle that drives the car to the right and you have to wind on left lock to counteract it).

You have two choices. 1) Get a HICAS compatible hub for the wheel. 2) De-activate HICAS.

The easy way to do 2) is to disconnect the smaller of the two wiring connectors on the back of the HICAS computer under the parcel shelf. Doing so will kill HICAS, lock the rear steering and not put the HICAS light up on the dash. Win.

Ultimately, the better way it to completely get rid of HICAS with a lock bar and even better is to pull all the crap out, including the lines and solenoids and so on.

I don't think anyone has ever had any HICAS related problems before. Will be watching this with interest.

Yeah as GTSBoy said, alot of issues occur because of incorrect steering boss kit or boss kit fitted wrong. I had the second issue with mine when I got mine. I put it on with the wrong section engaging the HICAS Prong so the boss kit had about 2 or so degrees of play before it actually engaged the HICAS hub. So car still felt the same, but as soon as I hit 80km/h, HICAS light came on. Didnt really notice any issues with the cars steering etc but mine is a 33 with the Electric HICAS so it works a bit different.

Check you dont have the same issue as I had, otherwise it might just be easy to pull the whole thing out as said. I havent looked back since removing mine.

      Unsolicited advice? Keep the engine as close to stock as you can. Nothing wrong with adding some boost and making a little more power, but given where you are, you really don't want to try to make it into a monster. I can't imagine the roads are up to it, and the lack of locla support when it grenades will be a ball ache. FWIW, If there is a dyno around that you can access, then brand new injectors are a good idea, which will lead you to (at least) putting a Nistune in it, which will allow you to put an R35 AFM on it, all of which will make it possible to make it much much nicer to drive and live with.

      List all of your mods. It sounds like an aftermarket ECU hitting rev limiter. Like a valet mode, or a cold rpm limiter?

      @Kapr Haha yeah thats the one. I missed that you had a built up engine, I wouldn't want to run it on there either then. It was good in my situation just to replace the original turbo on a stock engine. @MBS206Yep definitely not a replacement for anything name brand

      You are selling this? I have never bought something from marketplace...i dont know if i trust that enough. And the price is little bit "too" good...
