Hey just trying to search online what regulations cars(our) have to follow. Of course since I was looking for it, couldn't find anything.

Just wanting to know if anyone knows if there is or /have a list of regulations that we must follow. Just in case a "smart arse" copper decides to pull their weight around!

Stuff I was after was:

How loud can your exhaust be? Louder than a hair Dyer too loud?

What is the max size wheel you can have? How far can it, if any overhang from the body can it have?

What is the darkest legal tint? Actually know that one being 30% but if a cop pulls you over and says its 20%, as mine is... can I say hang on no it is actually 30% without risking having "attitude " towards him.

How low is toooo low? or How low can you go?

I think you all get the "drift" but any info or pointing in any direction would be great.

There are tests for heights of cars I think it's either a sideways or an upright coke can is the limit, I don't remember sorry, you don't want it too low though mines like 3-4 inches off and I scrape everywhere at 0.0025 kph

from memory exhaust is not allowed to be more then 90 DB at a specific rev range, some shops will pass it at 93 max

max wheel size depends on ur rolling diameter as to not put the speedo out..wheel diameter and tyre profile effect this... rule of thumb is u can go 2 inches bigger on the rim then stcok. There are websites that do conversions or go to ur local tyre shop and theyll be able to tell u

100 mm at the lowest point is the lowest u can go, this includes exhaust

As for tinting, I think 35% is the lowest you can go. Tinters used to put a small label between the glass and tint stating the tint figures, but they don't seem to do that anymore. I just carry around the warranty card/invoice in the glove box, showing the tint type. If the cops believe that it is below legal, the last thing you want to do is get into a school yard 'yes it is, no it isn't' arguement with them.. Just play dumb, say the tint shop told you it is legal and show them the warranty card/invoice.

But since yours is 20%, maybe just tell them you thought it was 35%. The last thing you want to do is challenge the authority of a police man, so it is probably better to suggest you though it was legal, without telling them they are wrong.

But at the end of the day, if it is 20% and you get busted for it, you will just have to wear it.. Some of the mobile roadside inspection stations do have a tester they can use to check the transparency of the window/tint.

I wonder how dark is the factory tint on the V35 for those with the "privacy glass" option. Does anyone know?

It doesn't matter - the car has passed ADRs with the privacy glass fitted, so any cop that knows anything won't do you for it. That said one or two per year Australia-wide get pinged for it, but all you have to do it challenge it at a local police station and they will take the defect off.

The answer is that EVERY STATE IS DIFFERENT. You need to ask your state transport authority for the information - and they HAVE to give it to you. There will be a PDF you can download from them.

He is from Sydney, as am I. I've delt first hand with these defects

What I've stated above is pretty much the go with NSW

i thought 35% referred to the amount of light it blocks out... which would make the rear glass more like 83% ;)

oh and at the end of the day, if the "officer" has doubt about anything at all, they'll defect the car and let someone else work it out instead.

and yes, some "officers" are more likely to defect a ford if theyre a holden fan and vice versa (as one admitted to me)

the simple thing is:

if you just "cruise around"

... with the windows down

..... with the stereo pumping

....... a loud exhaust

........stickers and coloured lights galore......

.. youre just asking for a defect.

All vehicle regulations are supposedly governed by NCOP.(National Code of Practice) in conjunction with ADR.

Window Tinting clause 7.2 page 24 http://www.infrastru...0_01Jan2011.pdf short answer 70% transmittance (30% tint)

Wheels & Tyres table on Page 23 http://www.infrastru...n_2011%20v3.pdf get to know your maximum tyre widths / aspect ratios in relation to stock.

all codes here : http://www.infrastru...n/vsb_ncop.aspx

I guess it must just be a 'recommendation' as it say that the front windows must have 70% transmittance, unless the state/territory laws allow less.

I know in Queensland you can have all windows except the front windscreen tinted to T35, which is 35% transmittance. So maybe there is national guidelines, but the individual states can still make up their own mind?? Weird.. makes you wonder why they bother with a NCOP.

I haven't even seen a T70 tint.. I know 50% is reasonably common.

    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
