ok guys, i have this panasonic dvd rom thing in the pop up compartment above the glovebox (i think it might be navi). i also have aerials on the back 2 windows but yet there is no pop up screen in the car. would there had been a aftermarket screen somewhere and they took it out ? or if i was to buy a origional screen would it operate it ?

im wanting to buy a RS radio suround so i can put in an aftermarket head unit. i have found 1 in australia for $250 and it comes with the pop up screen, im just worried it will be a waste of money. is anyone able to give me some advice ?

thanks

adam

Hi Adam

I'm no expert but the Panasonic dvd would be JDM aftermarket & no good here. What is your current head unit? Is it the fully integrated Bose?

I think the pop up screen would be difficult to get working where there wasn't one before. Maybe someone like Brad will chime in, but I'd guess save your money & don't get a surround with screen.

hey mate

im not sure but i dont think its the fully integrated Bose. its sitting at a mates place atm where its easier for me to pull the front off, so once i go out there either tonight or tomorrow ill get a photo and upload it for you. i dont really mind about the pop up tv screen, i just would like to put my double din clarion headunit in, ill keep an eye out for one without the pop up screen, if they came out the factory like that.

thanks for your help

Hi Adam, that DVD ROM is nothing to do with the NAVI if there is no pop up screen nor a screen mounted above the A/C controls.

If you want the pop up screen with info to work in your car, you will need to get the DVD ROM as that stores all the info as well as the wiring harness and the screen/surround.

Can't see why it couldn't be done and there are some on Yahoo (see Import Monster) from time to time.

If you buy the RS surround with the screen just remove the screen and put in the little glovebox there instead. Its like the double din kit. Then the AC controls will work.

I guess you are taking out all the jap stuff by the first thread.

You could fit a small screen with av in the pop up holder. It wont look factory but it will give more options.

If you use the factory screen you will need the dvd rom and the TV tuner in the boot for the AV input. I dont think anyone has put a factory system into a non fitted car.

    • Hi...so a "development" here aswell The swap is "done" and car went "test drive" BUT it seems the clutch(maybe gearbox?) is a little bit sad? I bought this clutch kit https://justjap.com/products/xtreme-heavy-duty-organic-clutch-flywheel-kit-nissan-skyline-r31-r32-r33-push-type "Problem" is that the first gear is hard to put into and it seems that the clutch is not disengaged. It was not the problem with the old clutch...(or like sometime the first gear would not get as easy specialy when the fluid was cold) So? Can it be like...bad "install" or is the clutch wrong ((it should not have been) i done research to get the right one) Or is this "normal" with new clutch and needs to be break in?

    • Hey everyone, Wanted to pick some brains about this issue I'm having with rebuilding my 33 rack (PN is 49001-19U05). All of the tutorials/videos I've seen online are either R34 or S Chassis racks which seem to be pretty straightforward to disassemble but this process doesnt carry over to my rack. Few of the key differences that I've noted The pinion shaft on the other racks bolt on with 3 torx bolts: Whereas my rack bolts on with 2 allen head bolts: These changes are pretty inconsequential but the main difference is how you pull the actual rack out of the housing. The other skyline/s chassis racks can be taken out by tapping the rack out of the body with a socket and it just slides right out. I'm unable to do that with my rack because there's a hard stop at the end that doesn't let the seal/shaft be tapped out. Can also see a difference in the other end of the rack where mine has a notch that looks like you're able to use a big wrench to unthread 2 halves of the rack whereas the other racks are just kinda set in with a punch. My rack: Other racks: TLDR; Wanted to know if anyone has rebuilt this specific model of steering rack for the R33 and if there were any steps to getting it done easier or if I should just give this to a professional to get done. Sorry if this post is a bit messy, first one I've done.
    • I would just put EBC back on the "I would not use their stuff" pile and move on.
