I have some carbon fibre parts on my car already and my car is always in the garage, actually hasnt been out for atleast 4months for a day drive...

but I did notice while going over it and being a bit ashamed at how much dust has accummulated whilst being in the garage that a carbon fibre part that has been on the car less than a year has gone cloudy..

very suprised cause its a known supplier too..

so I'll be looking at getting UV clear coat on these new parts to prevent this happening.

just a thought, its easier to protect than buff the cloudy appearance away.

Well Im reading up on it atm...

the CF parts need to be UV resistant clear coat..

this is what Ive found so far.... 'Basco clear primer and Basco clear coat against UV'

they mix the UV protectant in with the clear coat apparantly...

Lots of CF parts have this problem, its a cosmetic thing as when CFis used in aeroplanes or boats they just paint with UV paint and you dont see the CF weave anymore

but for cosmetic parts, you need UV clear coat...

I think I'll be taking all my CF off and getting it all clear coated at the same time, cause I have a fair bit and want it to last..

UV also is not good for the resin as it will make it turn brittle and eventually it will crack and fall apart...

this will happen faster with cheaply made CF parts...

although there are reports seibon hoods have gone cloudy within a couple of weeks of being outside... and factory EVO wing blades lasting a couple of years before going cloudy, mitsubishi replaces them under warranty

If anyone has anyother UV protectants that can be mixed with clear coat please let me know...

AUSPOST has sorted it, they managed to intercept the parcel and hopefully should be delivered today.

Aske dmy dad to keep an eye out for it but the coucnil is doing road works and blocking access to my driveway, hopefully the couriers arent lazy pricks and will walk 5 meters to my gate!

75coupe, keep this thread updated if u find a solution to protect the CF gloss coat :)

i think some people just get 2pak clear sprayed on?

ok so, apparantly all automotive clear coats have a UV stabiliser in them and that why clear coats can be so expensive... that the words directly from an automotive paint supplier.

so nothing special to worry about but yes most carbon fibre parts dont have UV stable clear coat on them, and yes you will need to get them clear coated to stop the sun making them cloudy or yellowing them.

sounds like I should buff my headlights and get them done at the same time...

How expensive?

What would spraying a wing blade and wing stands cost?

If it is pricey, it'd be worth just leaving it and replacing them after a year :P
