I have been installing quite a few Varex mufflers lately with the sound control valve. I was impressed enough to buy the 3.5 inch muffler for my own car with a 3.5/5 inch mid muffler. Quiet at the press of a button.

What are they charging for the varex muffler?

Have u done any hooker mufflers? Opinion?

Best mufflers do the 3.5 inch Varex for around $400.

Haven't done a hooker, mainly because the stainless ones are hard to find cheap. They aren't a straight through so not sure how they will flow either. The design looks good though, I would like to try it one day.

Good mufflers are hard to find, especially large bore ones.

Also been looking for a while...tossing up between Kaki 06&R + Xforce dump, or just getting the works from CES...

so Xforce make 3.5 dumps?...what about front pipes?

noob question what's a hooker? I'm pretty keen on the varex cause I pretty much share my garage wall with next door and im up at 5 so yeah don't wanna be a jerk

It's a brand of muffler I like to use them they sound very decent. I'm not a fan of the varex they put the tune out not keen on pressing a button if I want to have a go rather just put my foot down

The tune goes out Blake? Have you actually seen it happen?

From the cars I have fitted them to with widebands, the tune is fine. Obviously the boost is lower and top end power is down.

I will test the 3.5 inch system out on the dyno to see the power loss firsthand and any tune related issues that might arise. Just being able to quieten a 3.5 straight system to near oem levels impressed me enough to give them a go.

When you full close the exhaust it will cause restrication making it quite I'm sure when the car is dyno tuned I'm sure it will be tuned fully open so no restriction. I'm not sure how much it would change it may or may not cause det issues but there is deffinatly a restriction caused when closed. This was enough to make me steer away

Of course theres a restriction, theres no way a 3.5 inch straight through will be quiet without one. I think it would be a great setup if you could hook it up to the ecu for load actuation, or apparently there is an addon Xforce sell that automatically actuates the valve on engine revs also. (similar to what Ferrari etc use)

My question to you is, can you guarentee a customer the Hooker system is quiet enough to not get dicked? They are built for the "note" V8 guys want, just like Magnaflow mufflers and unfortunately that makes them too loud in most cases.

    • The wideband reading is meaningless if it's not running. Why are you using shitty old sidefeeds on any engine, let alone a Neo? What manifold and fuel rail are you using to achieve that? Beyond that, can't help you with AEM stuff as I've never been their ECU/CAS combo.
    • Manual boost controllers (where a little of the boost was bled off) were quite common back in the day, because they were cheap and easy. Generally they had a manual adjustment screw rather than being fixed like yours. Down side is they always bleed boost, not just when you want them to so an electronic boost controller that uses a solenoid will have less lag.
    • Hello , im new here and i have A31 home build  RB25det neo stock eng / turbo  aem ems 2 blue connector  aem 3.5 map aem cas disk aem wideband connected to ecu  355 lph pump 550 nismo yellow injectors side feed aftermarket regulator  and won’t start with base aem tuner basic tune eventually flipped cas 180 degree so it triggers on correct stroke not in exhaust cycle  Now it won’t start Wideband reads 10 and 11 at lowest fuel setting  and will share calibrations soon for aem tuner i think something is wrong in aem tuner    please if you have any information, am very grateful
    • Legend. I ended up finding the facebook account of the owner of the first car i sent but sadly he deactivated the account. I think you’re right in saying it’s some sort of well done custom job. Really appreciate your help anyways.
    • Totally equivalent. Stock often goes from the comp cover because that's where the actuator is also installed and the factory needs 2" of hose to make the connection - and it comes as a pre-assembled unit. They totally have a boost reference from somewhere between the turbo and the throttle(s). Oh, jeez. Just do it in M12 then. We don't actually care that much. I would expect any such AN converter fitting to rely on an o-ring or some other seal onto a flat surface under the flange of the hex**, because bolt threads are no intended to provide a pressure seal. unlike..... pipe threads. **which also requires a suitably flat and smooth surface on the turbo's boss to provide the seal.
