Hey guys,

Thinking about getting some seat covers for my R34 GTR and just wondering what is good, and what isnt?

Anybody have them? pics? advice?

the only ones i seem to be able to find are the AXS ones posted below, other than that the leather custom mades ones that im not too keen on...

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2-Black-GTR-Front-pair-AXS-Seat-Covers-5-year-warranty-/360433249703?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item53eb7eeda7

Are these any good? is the fit good or average?

Basically after something to provide a little bit of protection... is it worth bothering with seat covers at all?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Anthony

They're not meant to be a tight fit. Just like the Snap On ones, they're a throw-over and therefore loose.

They're still ok for protection, but just don't expect them to prevent abrading of the driver seat bolster eh?

yea i was searching through some old threads and some things on ebay about the leather type covers.. not really too keen onit though, not sure how it would leave the material under neath it, although it says it would protect it??.. im just not too sure. If anyone has first hand experience with these type of products? pics etc would be a great help.

Yea i realise the throw over ones will not prevent bolster wearing, not sure if anything would do that, its just the nature of the seat design that they will wear! bar removing / replacing the drivers seat nothing can help i would imagine....

The throw over type might be the go then.... unless i change my mind and go for a substitute seat, although i think an aftermarket bucket seat is abit of an overkill for the street use of my car...

Thanks for the comments guys, if any one else has any info it would be a great help.

Cheers,

Anthony

I have not tried this product before, but maybe some others members have.

Based off their site the fit and finish looks spot-on.

Assuming this would not be a cheap option either.

Post #1 and #10 has pictures of them in this member's for sale thread (in a R33 GTR): Seat covers

They look mint.

Cheers for the info guys.

I have been speaking to the guys at ultimate auto trim, they have there leather covers advertised on ebay. They seem like they could be alright? anyone used them before? for $400 compared to nearl $100 for 'throw over' type ones, it could be worth it?...

They sent me the below pic of there product fitted, looks alot like the ztune...

you can customise it however you want though, i would just be getting all black, and just the front seats.

Any thoughts or experience with these anyone?

Cheers,

Anthony

It does seem like a good fit, you pull the little plastic parts around the head rest out (where a harness would go through), fit the cover then fit them back ontop, which is one of the questions asked. they also said 100% guarantee perfect fit, and no modification at all to the seats, no adhesives to make them look fitted etc... all sounds very good to me... for around the $400 mark, it is very tempting! will keep you posted, may place an order in the morning just need to decide on stitching colour....

I was thinking lime green but I'm not sure the GTR would do commodores of the same colour justice haha

I was tossing up on black or red stitching, but after sitting in my car for a few mins, I will go with red stitching to match everything else in the car, the existing seats have red stitching so couldn't go too wrong.

Has anyone used / have any info on these JTM auto seats? they seem cheap and pretty clean looking?

http://jtm-auto.com.au/73/list.asp?id=7273&classid=3529&meid=73

Im looking for a very clean (prefer no logos) style seat for my car, dont want to spend thousands on brides etc so does anyone know of any other good seats? Dont really want cheap shit seats in my car, but at the same time i dont want to pay 4k+ for seats as its only a street car etc..

Any info/feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Anthony

Yea i did think i could have been an exact photo of a ztune ha...

Nothing is wrong with my seats, there in top condition, i want to keep them that way though... theres pretty much nothing short of removing them to do that though.

I dont really want a bride style seat, just want something simple and plain like the ones in the link above, dont need them to be the best seat in the world, and most quality seats i have seen dont fit what im after..

Any ideas/options im not seeing please post them up, but i have actually heard people say that some of the copys can be good? have no idea if this is right though.

i know you just got your GTR so i dont want you to ruin it with that tacky leather covers that's supposedly a direct fit.

so the reason for you wanting different seats, is to preserve the tip top condition of the standard seats? good idea mate :)

bride cuga, like the R35 GTR :)

absolutely sexy

you can get fake ones for around $600~ ea + rails.

that's if you don't care about it being fake or real. you can also get plain ones from JustJap;

http://justjap.com/store/product.php?productid=18072&cat=282&page=1

read up reviews on the fake seats, you will be suprised at how comfy they are and the quality of then,

Yea thats it, mainly wanting to preserve the condition of the ones i have, as they are nearly as new.. and good condition ones can be hard to find, and i know they deteriotate quite easily.

not fussed on copys or not, im after a very straight look, and want to avoid brand names on the seats so if copys are good would be happy to get them, the above bride copys look good, will have to call JJ and see if they can still get them in black.

Thanks for your help mate.

I am getting a price on the below recaros, i dont mind the look of them, but it will easily be 3k+ for 2 im thinking..

    • I got back to Japan in January and was keen to get back on track as quickly as possible. Europe is god-awful for track accessibility (by comparison), so I picked up a first-gen GT86 in December just to have something I could jump into right away. The Skyline came over in a container this time and landed in early January. It was a bit battered after Europe, though—I refused to do anything beyond essential upkeep while it was over there. The clutch master cylinder gave out, and so did the power steering. I didn’t even bother changing the oil; it was the same stuff that went in just before I left Japan the first time. Naughty. Power steering parts would’ve cost double with shipping and taxes, so knowing I’d be heading back to Japan, I just postponed it and powered through the arm workout. It took a solid three months to get the car back on the road. Registration was a nightmare this time around. There were a bunch of BS fees to navigate, and sourcing parts was a headache. I needed stock seats for shaken, mistakenly blew 34k JPY on some ENR34 seats—which, of course, didn’t fit—then ended up having the car’s technical sheet amended to register it as a two-seater with the Brides. Then there’s the GT86. Amazing car. Does everything I want it to do. Parts are cheap, easy to find, and I don’t care what anyone says—it’s super rewarding to drive. I’ve done a few basic mods: diff ratio, coilovers, discs, pads, seat, etc. It already had a new exhaust manifold and the 180kph limiter removed, so I assume it’s running some kind of map. I’ve just been thrashing it at the track non-stop—mostly Fuji Speedway now, since I need something with higher speed after all that autobahn time. The wheels on the R34 always pissed me off—too big, and it was a nightmare getting tires to fit properly under the arches. So I threw in the towel and bought something that fits better. Looks way cleaner too (at least to me)—less hotboy, less attention-seeking. Still an R34, though. Now for future plans. There are a few things still outstanding with the car. First up, the rear subframe needs an overhaul—that’s priority one. Next, I need to figure out an engine rebuild plan. No timeline yet, but I want to keep it economical—not cutting corners, just not throwing tens of thousands at a mechanic I can barely communicate with. And finally, paint. Plus a bit of tidying up here and there.
    • Nope, needed to clearance under the bar a little with a heat gun, a 1/2" extension as the "clearancer", and big hammer, I was aware of this from the onset, they fit a 2.0 with this intake no problems, but, the 2.5 is around 15mm taller than a 2.0, so "clearancing" was required  It "just" touched when test fitting, now, I have about 10mm of clearance  You cannot see where it was done, and so far, there's no contact when giving it the beans Happy days
    • It's been a while since I've updated this thread. The last year (and some) has been very hectic. In the second-half of 2024 I took the R34 on a trip through Germany, Italy, France and Switzerland - it was f*cking great. I got a little annoyed with the attention the car was getting around Europe and really didn't drive it that much. I could barely work on the car since I was living in an inner-city apartment (with underground parking). During the trip, the car lost power steering in France - split hose - and I ended up driving around 4,000kms with no power steering.  There were a few Nurburgring trips here and there, but in total the R34 amassed just shy of 7,000kms on European roads. Long story short, I broke up with the reason I was transferred to Europe for and requested to be moved back to Japan. The E90, loved it. It was a sunk cost of around EUR 10,000 and I sold it to a friend for EUR 1,500 just to get rid of it quickly. Trust me, moving countries f*cking sucks and I could not be bothered to be as methodical as I was the first time around.
    • I assume clearances were all a-okay?
    • Shock tower brace is in +5Kw....LOL
