V35 - Speedo

Hi all,

Just picked up my v35 yesterday. I love it but this might sound silly, I cant get used to the speedo. anyone else have the same problem. The numbers and lines dont match up so i was going by the lines but felt I was going slower. Can someone explain to me what speed is what line on the speedo? - Sounds silly and I feel stupid asking. Please be kind.

If I understand what you're trying to convey and your cluster looks like this then:

Thickest lines are the 20Kph increments (20-40-60-80)

Mid Thick lines are the 10kph increments (10-30-50-70)

and the thin lines are the 2kph increments in between.

hahaha nice, thats what a pivot speed meter is for and OP, is digital so easy to see what speed ur going

my speedo looks like this. should have added a pic when i posted. Mine looks completely different to yours. My numbers dont line up with the lines. So i tried ignoring the numbers and go by the lines but it feels like im driving like a granny.

That looks like the LHD but converted.

Also what year?

Weird, if you just count the lines, there isnt enought to get you to 180.

This is what mine looks like.

Looks like someone has replaced the outer ring with one from a US model.

The G37 speedo has eight larger lines like yours does whereas the cluster showing kms has nine larger lines.

Now, I wonder how many kms your car actually has on it.

It's 2006. But they replaced that component because it wasn't displaying the fuel level properly. So it used to have the same as you. I don't know why they put this one in! How am I meant to kno wat speed I'm going???

I kno when we previously looked at the car it had done about 24000km.

Go by the numbers, they will be accurate

What part of the cluster was replaced because that my friend is a return to dealer issue. There is definitely a mismatch of components rendering the display useless. In fact if inspected by plod they would sticker your car I'm sure.

I would be seeing about getting that fixed.

That whole component was replaced because they couldn't fix the fuel gauge on the original one. I called the place where I got my car from and I'm going to take it to the mechanic that fitted it because i need him to check the muffler as well. Its making a noise sometimes when i turn corners or acclerate. So i will ask him to check calibration and the muffler. I love my new car but it's hard to drive it around when I'm not sure what speed I'm going lol.

if u have a portable gps, use that and see how different the two speed readings are...gps vs speedo. That looks very dodgy indeed...

Which is why I said the outer ring and not the numbers.

The numbers are obviously from a metric version but the outer ring (with the lines) is from an imperial cluster as it doesn't have enough of the larger "main" lines, thus from the US model.

hmmmm i have an idea check to see if u can get a nismo speedo not only will it fix ur issue but it will go over 180km

Thanx guys for all your replies took car to their mechanic and he agrees it doesn't make sense. So they are replacing it 2moro with a 'normal looking' speedo.

Apparently what happened was when they ordered it they asked for a compatible one and that's what was sent.

that out of place line would be 35mph... which is marginally slower than 60
