Plugged in the nistuned z32 ecu today and the car seems to fine with it in, but the exhaust temp light on the dash is on as soon as the car is turned on.

I have a 96 gtst that I always thought was a series 2 which meant I didnt have to worry about the FICD pin on the z32 ecu being different to the s2 rb25det ecu.

Taken from the nistune website:

5) FICD output – pin 33

* Series 1 R33 only

The R33 Series 1 RB25 engine uses pin 33 for the Exhaust Overtemp Lamp on the dash. This line should be disconnected as the Z32 uses this line to drive the FICD (Fast Idle Control Device) – for idle up when aircon is on. FICD is driven seperately on the R33 Series 1 RB25 via the aircon system. Note that the R33 Series 2 RB25 does use the FICD the same as the Z32 ECU, so this modification is not required for those engines

Anyone know what might be causing the exhaust temp lamp to be coming on or If there was some series 1.5 r33's with series 2 bodies etc produced in early 96?

Yeah I been keeping track of your thread.

Sucks man shit never just simply works

Pretty glad I went with the R32 ECU now

Z32 ecu is going back to Matt at nistune today for further analysis/modification.

What's your work situation like this long weekend kasko?

Hotel work man f**ken sucks balls.

Want me to come around on Thursday we can have a look at the profec?

I set mine up and we can just go off my car.

Fuel pump I got DVS to do but there is a walk through on how to do it.

What pump did you buy?

Also do you know anyone with a soldering iron?

I got a nismo in tank so I think it's near identical to the stock setup.

Just had a thought about the profec, im guessing you gotta disconnect the stock boost solenoid, so will it be fine for me to still drive around with the profec b turned off just using wastegate spring pressure to control boost?

Is it even worth trying to install the profec without having the new turbo in?

My dad mau actually have a soldering iron but I'll have to check with him.

What clips/plugs will I need to setup the quick swap over?

I will take a photo of mine and send it to you.

Just go to Jaycar across the road from Wow sight and sound.

Cost me I think $4 a plug and you need 2.

My car already had the stock solenoid removed so was pretty straight forward swap.

I guess maybe leave that till the turbo is done because then you can hook up the actuator etc.

Did you buy a 3 inch intake?

Yeh, I was gonna do that with the turbo seeing as to put in the intake I gotta take out the intercooler pipes in the engine bay to get to it and that will have to be done for the turbo as well

In regards to the plugs for the afm, your stock one had 4 wires didn't it kasko? Which is the same as the z32 plug.

Mine is a series 2 which only has 3 wires (i belive its the same as an r34 afm) from what I can tell I have to put ground and signal ground into the same wire on the stock afm meter loom.

I already have a tomei plug with the 4 wires, so should I just get the exact same plug that's on my stock afm so the wires can be connected up to it and then just clip it to the afm loom?

Anyone with electrical wiring knowledge or someone who has fitted a z32 to their r33 s2 or r34?

    • Hey keep the ideas coming, I'm always keen on projects! But, problem fixed!  I got a cheapie ozito scope from Bunnings and had a good look in and around the bearing and sensor hole. I couldn't see a smoking gun but the bearing looked a bit strange, especially when comparing with a new one. I thought the cover had come off the bearing magnets.  Sorry for pics of a screen, I didn't have an SD card.     Good thing I had the old one to inspect. So, given I'm like a pit crew with wheel bearings and luckily I had a spare bearing because I f**ked up my parts order, I decided to just smash it out. Got the old one out in about an hour. So much easier when the parts haven't had a chance to rust together yet. 😂 And, well, found the problem.    In the second pic at about the 8 o'clock position, you'll see what I think is the tip of the old sensor.  The new sensor has definitely been rubbing but it's all intact, just a little shiny so I'm hoping it's fine.  The car brakes perfectly now and no errors.  I think the job took about 2.5h in the end. 👍🏻 I really appreciate the help in here as usual. Thanks guys.
    • I was only looking because I saw some drops on the ground but it wasn't alot. Recently had it serviced will ask the mech to confirm. Find it strange that it looks standard though, can see in another photo of a random box
    • So...not sure if you know if that has always been there or why you went looking. It could be old damage from a clutch explosion, or even just the gearbox got dropped somewhere along the line. Basically, you should seal it up to stop oil and dust getting into the bellhousing, but it doesn't matter too much and is not structural. I'd suggest something like a glob of JB Weld. BTW what gearbox oil are you running, I would guess the breather has been spewing it everywhere.
    • Hey Duncan thanks for your reply. Sorry mate I know the photos are shit.  Took another photo for reference. Seems the casing does have a hole in it looking on the net, fluid seeping out. Added a photo
    • Very hard to make out what you mean, is it the squarish hole with redline shockproof (probably) under it? Is that pic from on top of the engine with the firewall to the left of pic and engine to the right? Either way, spray the area liberally with degreaser and try again, maybe circle the part you are worried about
