I think everybody here knows tuning will be needed to make e85 work mate..what Mick was saying is you don't need to crank a heap more boost for extra power and that he infact gained power dropping the boost..so yes he has gained by just swapping fuel and of course retuning for that fuel...

Yeah of course i realise it will need tuning with the new fuel but from what i can gather i am definitely looking at a gain and a fairly substantial one at that.

If i put some bigger injectors in it and re tuned at 17 psi i think from what i am reading, it would achieve a result, but of course, the idea of this fuel is to be able to crank boost into it with det resistance.

Matty Spry from PITS does the tune and the dyno sheet you see was only a power run i did when i was at 101 with a mate running his GTR on the dyno. We just wanted a comparison. Matt has achieved some fantastic results with my FJ and i would of course take it to him for the E85 tune. Next step will be discussing it with him. Just wanted some ideas first.

Does E85 cause excessive wear on rings or cylinder head or anything stupid i should know about? How about leaving the car for extended periods of time sitting? does the fuel turn to jelly or go off? i live in Germany part of the year so it doesn't get run so often while i'm here.

Lol thanks for pointing out the obvious ARTZ :thumbsup: i dont know of any disadvantages of E85 in a street car apart from the fuel consumption increasing and the lack of places to fuel up :whistling:

With a good tune your fuel increase should be around the 10-15% zone as my consumption stood at 420-450km max per tank of 98 in city driving and now im at bout 380-400 out of a tank of Eflex and at average its bout 30- 35c a litre cheaper than premo anyways almost evens things out.

Can i ask why you only plan to run 17psi?? I dont know much bout FJ's but i run 850cc injectors and a single tomei in tank pump and 25psi boost with a 3071 on a stock 25 and im making good power! A built FJ should cop more than 17psi?? A 3040 will only be just starting to open its lungs at 17psi! if you gotta upsize your fuel system why not quench its thirst for E85 within the turbos limit? Seems crazy to me that you are gunna spend good money on a fuel system and not unlock the full potential of the turbo pinch.gif E85 absorbs water i dont know if it goes off as such.... Probably should of mentioned more oil changes too from E85 as ethanol tends to dilute oil faster or possibly running a heavier oil may or may not solve that problem.:thumbsup: My personal experience with E85 has been a good experience :rolleyes:

i only wanted to establish that good power gains can be made if all things were equal and i just swapped the fuel to E85. (ie, if i ran 17psi as i do now and tuned to E85. What could i expect so to speak).

But of course, my plan is to up the boost level and see what it makes.

The comments about fuel consumption and water absorption was what i was looking for as well. I know it will use more fuel of course but figures are great. I will also look into the dilution of the oil.

Basically i want to know everything i can so i know what to expect. Yeah my turbo is just starting to work at 17psi, i know when i went from 14psi to 17 i was making just over 10hp per psi. I am also using a standard 55mm TB. I couldn't up the boost any more because it started to lean off over 7k rpm and the injectors were at 100% cycle.

Any others comments would be greatly appreciated.

Id expect a minimum of 10% power increase overall and anywhere up to 40+kw increase through your midrange :thumbsup:

Not so sure you'll get a fat mid range with a GT3040R/GT3082R on a 2 litre four . They are known to be lazy on 2.5 L sixes and even a big bore medium stroke engine like an FJ20 won't change that .

Most aren't interested in the history lesson but the HKS spec "GT3040R" was the better one because its compressor was 50 trim not 56 trim like the Garrett marketed one is . Your call but I think a GTX3071R or GT3076R would be a better thing on an FJ20ET .

It's your money and you can spend lots of it trying to solve a turbo problem , or just use a more appropriate turbo first .

    • Can I suggest you try EBC directly again and link them to as many competitor catalogues as you can to show their listing is incorrect, eg https://dba.com.au/product/front-4000-series-hd-brake-rotor-dba42304/ If you have access to an R33 GTST VIN and your VIN, you could also use a Nissan Parts lookup like Amayama to show them the part number is different between 33 GTST and 34 GTT which may get their attention
    • So i got reply from EBC and they just this site where you can clearly see those 296mm fronts on R34 GTT. I send them photos and "quotes" that 296mm are not for 34 GTT and they are too small.     • Hi, is the HKS  Tower Bar still available ? negotiable ? 🤔
    • From there, it is really just test and assemble. Plug the adapter cables from the unit into the back of the screen, then the other side to the car harness. Don't forget all the other plugs too! Run the cables behind the unit and screw it back into place (4 screws) and you should now have 3 cables to run from the top screen to the android unit. I ran them along the DS of the other AV units in the gap between their backets and the console, and used some corrugated tubing on the sharp edges of the bracket so the wires were safe. Plug the centre console and lower screen in temporarily and turn the car to ACC, the AV should fire up as normal. Hold the back button for 3 sec and Android should appear on the top screen. You need to set the input to Aux for audio (more on that later). I put the unit under the AC duct in the centre console, with the wifi antenna on top of the AC duct near the shifter, the bluetooth antenna on the AC duct under the centre console The GPS unit on top of the DS to AC duct; they all seem to work OK there are are out of the way. Neat cable routing is a pain. For the drive recorder I mounted it near the rear view mirror and run the cable in the headlining, across the a pillar and then down the inside of the a pillar seal to the DS lower dash. From there it goes across and to one USB input for the unit. The second USB input is attached to the ECUtec OBD dongle and the 3rd goes to the USB bulkhead connected I added in the centre console. This is how the centre console looks "tidied" up Note I didn't install the provided speaker, didn't use the 2.5mm IPod in line or the piggyback loom for the Ipod or change any DIP switches; they seem to only be required if you need to use the Ipod input rather than the AUX input. That's it, install done, I'll follow up with a separate post on how the unit works, but in summary it retains all factory functions and inputs (so I still use my phone to the car for calls), reverse still works like factory etc.
