Within the next 2 months I'll be doing a similar upgrade with 2530's, only difference being mildly ported head, HKS 264 inlet & 272 exhaust cams, dumps, no cat & pod filters. Its currently putting out 225rwkw in stock trim on 1.0 bar - should be interesting comparo to meshmesh! I'll post the final results in the near future.

I saw Simon last night and he looked as giddy as a school girl! lol

Great stuff mate I have to say. Will be interesting to do the back to back comparison with JAGR33 when his work gets complete in the next few days by the same guys to see the difference (Im not going to spoil it Jack! :) )

Now mate all you have to do it get the 34 and do it all again! :D

Yeah I'm interested to see how my car will go aswell once its done... Although it will be dynoed on Ice's new dyno by then.....

Maybe we'll have to get meshmesh to have a go on the new dyno aswell, for the comparison to be more precise....

Cheers Andrew for not spoiling.... :D

Hi Jack... Gerald seems real excited about your car and said the same thing about comparing the two. I believe the dyno should be up and running as very late this avo, so once the boys are ready I'll drop it in next week so we can compare.. So glad to have the car back now it's your turn, but I'm sure you'll be rapped.

PS: Be careful what you say infront of the snowman, he's on a mission of attack... I hear his going for the same set up as Leewah's but even more power... I heard him and gerald talking numbers like 700kw at the rears.

Yeah well I'm still awaiting parts from Japan, so won't get done for atleast 2 weeks now... :)

Yeah the guys were saying that you had quite a smile on ur face once you'd taken it for a burl....

Will be more than happy to do a comparison, as we both have standard engine/cams/manifolds/dumps/ecu/boost controller/catchcan etc.....

So Snowy's on a mission hey??? Got sick of seeing all these GTR's at Ice getting turbo upgrades??? 700rwkws??? :D

Here's mine from last Friday, same sought of set up but with 2540's.  This was on 1.2bar. (With HKS 264 cams)

Hi GZ,

That's interesting, can I ask you a few questions?? Thanks :D

[Disclaimer - I know that dyno's are a close indication and vary substantially according to many variants, and only using this a guide:)]

Just looking at your graph, it seems overly laggy, is this true & how are you finding the 2540's? Have you driven one with 2530's?

meshmesh, great result.

On the thing of dumps - I understand fully if you are 100% happy with your result, so I aint being smart.

I found huge gains in the exhuast side.  back pressure really started killing my power above around 290rwkw.  I upgraded to a freer flowing exhaust and brought boost on around 600rpm earlier, turbos were more responsive and I picked up top end.

Have you thought about getting the cat removed - this too can really crispen up the throttle and bring boost in earlier.  And as for dumps, well there again I think you would find more response and less lag.  For a street car, if you can get good response in by around 3-3500 its just about perfect.

Anyways each to their own.  you have a great result there.

Hi Steve,

I remember the drama's you had, and thanks for that thread, it's one of those threads that just sticks in my head.

Firstly, like 99.9% GTR owners going for similar upgrades, the dumps were definatley on that list namely HKS, & the IC. Then SK & markr34gtr said stuff the HKS, Trust is the way to go.. So I head off to see the boys at ICE had a chat... Not Once, Not Twice... Probably about 10 times seriously, I asked the same question each time "Are you sure about sticking to the stock dumps??", they're reply was always the same "Yes, we see very minimal gains for the money... "

So I figured a few things:

1. By doing something a little different to everyone else, could be a comparison for the forum & others to see if and what difference they really make.

2. If I felt that I was not happy with the cars performance then I could always fit the dumps later.

I guess my thinking was similar to those who spend BIG $$$ on fancy plenums, manifolds for nothing when the stock units are more than [keyword]capable. I spent a bit more time today watching the boost carefully, and what I call boost [sorry no offence ferni :D] some may argue, but I think boost is when you feel the BANG, and not so much the start of spool... If I take the latter my turbos start to spool from +0.00 @ around 3800-4000rpm, however you really feel the BANG around 4600-4900 all the way past redline.

But I'll probably wait and see when mark gets his trust pipes and see his opinions. Either way the car is going back for some minor adjustments next week, I'll keep yo'll updated.

PS: INASNT or any using the HKS EVC.....Need some help please

Say you've selected either high or low setting, if you click "Mod" it goes through other functions in that setting. You get to a function that allows you to set between 50 - 150??? what does this do?

Yes i am using a EVC 3. I havent really played with the evc yet but i do have the manual for it. Nige should know all the settings as he told adviced me to get a evc as they are the best ebc u can get especially with an external gate.

meshmesh - ahh i see, not sure what is defined as boost then, guess i need to take one of you guys for a drive so you can tell me when it comes on...

as far as i can see i nealry always get the kick(which isn't that hard with 1bar stock turbos, its more of a gradual thing in my car) at around 3.5-4k rpm

    • Hey guys so turns out this project is going to be much bigger than I thought haha but I've done some my homework and have done a few panels on my car, but one part I can just not visualise is this. If I do a spot repair and I put filler in a dent for example and sand outside of the repair with 320 grit lets say so the primer can stick as I will only put primer on that repair and the surrounding area and then repaint the whole panel. Don't I need to make sure that I don't put primer on the old clear coat? I keep seeing YouTube videos where people have new paint and primer land on the old clearcoat that isn't even dulled down, it's still shiny. I thought putting paint on clearcoat or primer on clearcoat is a bad idea because it won't stick. So in this scenario it's a bit different to mine but imagine someone doing a spot repair and only painting that small section of repair but the new paint is landing on the old clearcoat. What am I missing?
    • I was immediately reminded that your location is QLD. Sounds like a perfect SEQ business idea.
    • And if you can't drive bigger injectors with peak and hold as low impedance injectors during low pulse width, it's even harder to get a nice clean known amount of fuel.
