Yo. in the process of changing turbos (stock), need a couple of pointers pls. The turbo drain gasket, would it be ok to cut another out of ACL oil joiner gasket paper, or does it need to be some special gasket material to handle the high temps I'm guessing it will cop due to being on the turbo? as in, paper is probably going to overheat and catch alight and burn my car to the ground which is not what i'm after. Also where the hell do u buy copper washers from? Went to a few auto and bolt stores, and could only find those crappy prepacked ones that were all wrong sizes. Nissan wanted 36 bucks for SIX copper washers (get the farrrrk out)...

i dont think the turbo drain will catch fire, it is connected to the core which has coolant running thru it, so use the paper based one, its the dump that you dont use a paper one, its a soft alloy of metal i believe, should be able to get copper washers from a bolts shop, even a place like diesel spares would stock that stuff, the kudos package looks like what you need and at good price and good to deal with too. ;)

thanks for the offer Kudos, I have ordered from you before and your service and prices is top-rated and quite precise, I would not feel bad being taken by you in the shower if we were in prison together. Just that I am now unemployed and trying to do this shizz as cheap as possible as I have no work, although I was thinking of advertising as a transporter if anyone wants any cargo moved...no questions asked or answered.

and to the other dude, I know i should be able to get that from a bolt shop right? and it was doing my head in, everyone saying nahh mate, don't have any....I'm like why you holding out with the copper, just give it up dude, bring it in with my sizes n shit. Seriously wouldn't mechanics n that being needing copper washers on a daily basis, and in more than just 6 prepacked imperial sizes, come on get with the metric system. So would like to know where the copper washer warehouse is that I am completely unaware of. But I have taken certain liberties with a quiet friday night and the paper gasket I cut out, and pulled out the high temp copper gasket goo and smeared a thin coat of it over the paper gasket I carefully constructed and have it hanging up to dry. Booyah in the morning I have a heat proofed gasket ready to go.

    • Yes to both! Yes to standard ECU and tune, but exhaust is aftermarket. Unsure on brand. Actually have it sitting in at my desk haha! I have to set it up on my laptop but this is a great next step, will do. So I generally try to shift before 4.5K RPM most times. I largely don't do a lot of high-rev driving, but I will take it up to red 1-2x a week max, as I know the occasional "Italian tune-up" is good for these cars.  Oh wow, is this way better than what I'm getting. Does this mean there's a good chance I have an issue?   Thanks for all the info so far guys.
    • Old Son, did you re-use the Holden ABS in the new shell or try a different module?
    • Yeah, nah. I had the actuator rod off it today. The arm will not move at all. Neither out, nor in. Yeah, you'd think so, but I've been thinking about that. Even when the actuator rod fell all the way off at the beginning of this saga, it would build more boost and faster in lower gears than it would in higher gears, and you'd think that that was the opposite of what should happen. But I strongly suspect that there is a thing with the gearing getting the revs to rise faster, that there must be some transient effect with the gas flow rate rising quickly, that you don't get with the more steady state case of the higher gears. Keep in mind - the gate is not shut in either of my weirdnesses. So things are not "normal". We normally think about a turbo spooling up (below the wastegate target) with the gate shut. I have all sorts of mental models running now where the gate is a little bit open, and having it stuck open allowing gas out while it should be going through the turbine has all sorts of weird effects (in these mental models). I'm thinking in the higher gears, the ex mani pressure builds to the point where enough gases spill out the wastegate to just prevent the pressure rising much more at all, or just creeping up, all the whole the revs are increasing and getting closer to the point where a gear shift becomes necessary.
    • Is it possibly wastegate actuator itself is sticking, or even the rod to flapper? Otherwise I reckon things are getting a bit rusty/worn   Also odd it won't boost in 3rd to 5th, but will in 1st, I'd expect the other way around with it slightly open as there's more time on your way to redline for it to spin up
    • Does anyone know ow what these two plugs are for and if they should be unplugged? Just put the dash back together and can't remember if these were plugged in before or unplugged! (Blue and white plugs) 🤦🏽‍♂️
