Hi Guy's

I've got a slight issue & hoping someone on here might be able to shed some light on it for me or maybe had the same or similar problem. I've just recently move to Brisbane from Sydney with my beloved R33 gtst with rego due, told by my new boss don't worry about renewing in NSW wait until you get here as it would be cheaper…...lol not so far anyway.

I knew I needed to get a Safety inspection prior to going to Queensland Transport which was a little fun in its own right & needless to say it has been an expensive exercise to get but I finally got it passed (oil leak &no horn due to faulty clock spring).

Anyway after finally getting the safety inspection certificate went to Queensland transport to do the change over & I have been informed by the, I must say very unhelpful lady just like the RTA in NSW that I needed to go & get another inspection WOVI (written off vehicle inspection) as my car is classed a write-off.

I knew when I brought the car that it was classed as a repairable write-off in NSW after doing a REV's check etc, however I've had the car for over 2years without any issues with full comprehensive insurance etc. The car is in almost perfect condition & from what I've found there has been some repair work in the passenger rear quarter.

I then tried to make the booking for the WOVI but apparently they need to do some more checking prior to this as I brought the car privately & the person who I brought it off, didn't know it was listed as a repairable write-off when I asked him prior to buying (apparently).

She also told me that as long as it is listed a tier 3, I would't require the inspection but if it's tier 2 it would require the inspection.

Since then I've been trying to find out what the actual difference is between the two but I haven't been able to find or locate any info in regard's to this, does anyone know what the actual difference is?

Also if it has to go for the inspection what exactly does this involve, are they just checking the repair work & that the VIN numbers match etc from what I've read it is?

Or should I be running back to Mexico now

thanks in advance

I feel your pain going through RTA and QLD transport, i dread going in there. I'd assume that the check would involve inspecting joints and they would obviously look for repair work and yes the VIN numbers etc.

Other than that i couldn't help you mate, best of luck though.

oh yes it is an absolute pain in the arse, been there done that,

they don't give a shit about repairs, you should see the shit that boat people bring there to get inspected and pass. holy god! all they are interested in is that the vehicle's numbers match up to the system, and any parts that you have sourced have receipts or the vin of the car they came off of, get 1 number wrong, instant FAIL

Update: Got a call from them today yeah you can come pick your car up…..however every things fine all the numbers match & the repairs are done well but I noticed your airbag light doesn't come on at all!!! So I can't pass it yet :(

So I've just home pull the dash out & noticed there is no light in the airbag spot, so I thought just to check I removed the interior door light & put that into the airbag spot. But guess what no joy it doesn't light up, I've checked the fuse box also & done a battery reset.

When I brought the car it had a momo wheel on it but I removed it & put a standard wheel back on, I've had horn issues also which were just fixed so I'm not sure if it related or not.

Looks like more money I'm up for, does anyone know a decent auto electrician that won't charge me the earth I live in Wynnum west & new to QLD so I don't know anyone around or who to go too. Any help will be greatly appreciated all I want to do is get my car rego done & finally take my car for a cruise guess thats going to take a little longer now :(

ok then it has a module in it. the single bag cars were a different matter as the wheel was the controller.

I live in carseldine. give me a call in the morning and I will have a chat to you about it.

    • Harness is for a s1 Rb25det, and it is engine and lower harness.  the old harness had broken off plugs and was in very rough condition/exposed wires and splices etc. it is not able to be put back on the car, I could visually inspect to see if they had rewired any pins on the ecu plug. The fuel pump definitly isn’t turning off it’s an external pump and very loud you can hear it. Will look at the other harness tonight, am also going to pull the fuel rail and watch the injectors spray, will update here with what I find. Pretty sure at this point it has to be something to do with injectors because car will fire up on starting fluid and cas is clicking the Injectors. Fuel pressure is steady 43psi
    • Check the injectors flow evenly, and are actually flowing what you and the ECU think they should be flowing. If it's starting up on starter fluid, you have a fuel issue. Is it possible under cranking your fuel pump is turning off?   The harness you replaced, is that the whole engine harness? Do yourself a test, and drop the old harness on and plug it into the Z32 ECU. It's possible they've wired things different. From memory S1 to S2 is different in RB25 and you may have a wrong loom
    • I haven’t pulled the injectors to watch them spray yet but they are clicking from the cas and all of the spark plugs are wet with fuel. I’ve thought the cylinders were being flooded from the beginning and was hoping fuel pressure would fix it. Tonight I am going to pull the rail and watch the injectors spray. Don’t know how to test/diagnose if the plugs are firing in correct sequence but that should be a timing thing and as far as timing goes my car still has the half moon for the cas can only install it 1 way. And my mechanical timing is 100% correct I posted photos above. Confirmed with the balancer on and off.
    • I checked spark on all cylinders and they all visually have spark with the plug pulled and grounded, but plug 1 is the only one that fouled. This was a running swap that blew up and was rebuilt by a machine shop, put a new wiring specialties harness and did all gaskets, studs, and bolts while it was out.  compression is 135-150 across all cylinders. Aside from that from my understanding with the z32 ecu and maf the car should start regardless. The wiring for TPS and the dual 02 sensor/ dual knock sensor stuff shouldn’t actually stop the car from starting or even running well, (just slightly rich)  they just give fault codes. Car supposedly is supposed to start as long as you have z32 afm and ecu with the nistune base map and that’s info coming from a well known and trusted tuner who does a lot with SR/RB (Rsenthalpy). After more trouble shooting today where I’m at right now is that the cas is sending signal to the injectors they click while spinning the rotor, Fuel pressure is now set at 43psi, all cylinders have good compression and all of the plugs looked great (just wet with fuel) except for cylinder 1 which was very black (cylinder 1 has 150psi compression). all of the coils generate spark if pulled out and grounded out on the head. On the fuel pump car just pops into the exhaust. On starting fluid car will fire off. Hard to tell if all cylinders are firing off but definitley a couple. sounds like all of them but it’s only for 3-5 seconds hard to tell.
