Stale Fuel?

My car has been sitting around for the last 6 months on the same half tank of fuel. Just wondering if it goes stale or if i can do the first 200km of driving the car with that fuel (ie no boost). I have to take the car for a bit of a run to make sure everything is in check before i get it tuned, so i was just going to use up the last bit of that fuel and then fill up fresh before the tune up.

Any thoughts? Oh, it is BP Ultimate fuel.

U r better off filing up with much new fuel as possible because after 6 months all the dirt in the fuel would have setteled at the bottom of the tank near the pickup.

hmmm... maybe i'll just run it and then after that's used up i'll chuck in a new fuel filter as well.

Yeah just drive it as normal and fill up again lat. If there was any dirt in the system it woulda eventually made its way into the pump anyway, but remember fuel pumps have a nice "pickup sock".

It used to be BP Ultimate....but not anymore, After 6 months of standing with a half tankful I personally would drain it and stick it in the wife's Camry, At the very least fill it up with 98Octane before you go anywhere.

hmmm... ok, but is there any evidence that it would be that bad that it needs to be drained? There is only a quarter of a tank. The car started fine with it and ran fine around the block. No boost at all though... not going to till it's been tuned. Don't want to damage the pistons again!!!

Drain your tank & refill it. One of the old blokes at my work has owned 3 servo's.

BP,Shell & Mobil gurantee their fuel to be 98RON. When it leaves the refinery it is all 100RON. By the time it arrives in your tank they can only guarantee 98RON.

That's what you call a clue. after 6 months... your guess is as good as mine. Not worth the risk IMO.

i am in the same corner, my car has beem in the shop for about 9 weeks and i am guessing that the octane has droped. i was thinking of picking up some octane booster, what do you guys think of that idea??

yeah, i'm draining it now. I'll just chuck it in the old corolla or chuck it in mums car. Octane boost could be ok, but i wouldn't be hitting boost untill that tank was empty and you've filled up fresh again.
