suwidji
I'm trying to replace my fuel filter on my 98 r34 GTT, but I've stumbled on 2 things. 1. I do not know where the fuse is that drives the fuel pump, so I can't depressurize the fuel line 2. The hose on the old fuel filter is on SO damn tight that it wont even budge no matter how hard i pull. It's like the clamp squeezed the hose on so tight to the filter, as if it's been heatshrunk. Anybody got any tips to as how I'd go about changing my filter? It's so frustrating! I don't want to go to a mechanic either, kinda want to do it on my own. thanks Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/402611-fuel-filter-hose-not-coming-off/ Share on other sites
R.3.2.G.T.R
fuse should be where your knee is when seated dont pull, try rotating to break the seal, grab some pliers, put a cloth on the hose and clamp, then rotate Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/402611-fuel-filter-hose-not-coming-off/#findComment-6400992 Share on other sites
75coupe
I e never worried about depressurisong the fuel line. I just put a rag or container under it to catch leftovers its never very much. There such a thing as a hose removing tool looks like a pair pliers but it pushes the hose of the fitting, ive never used it though. I use a pair of normal pliers give it a twist and pull, they can be hard to remove, if you have a hair dryer you could try warming the ruber i guess but ive never done that either... suwidji
thanks guys, I finally did it. I guess i wasnt pulling (and twisting) hard enough before haha. But yeh, all good now, replaced and no leaks i didnt bother taking out the fuse either, still couldnt find it lol. I just opened the fuel cap to relieve some pressure. StevenCJR31
opening the fuel cap will only relieve tank pressure- not line pressure as that is governed by the fuel pump Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/402611-fuel-filter-hose-not-coming-off/#findComment-6402038 Share on other sites
gotRICE?
The easier option is to cut it off and replace it with shiny new stuff if its that hard! I know mine was. Good on you for getting it off though. It will be easy as next time haha. Booki
Good tip to remove stubborn hoses is spray them with some WD40, wait a couple of minutes and they slip right off 1 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/402611-fuel-filter-hose-not-coming-off/#findComment-6402722 Share on other sites
suwidji
ok thanks! i'll keep that in mind for next time, or whenever i need to get any hoses off haha Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/402611-fuel-filter-hose-not-coming-off/#findComment-6402771 Share on other sites
iwanta34gtr
Glad you got it done. I have never pulled the fuse previously, just open fuel tank cap and have a ice cream container handy to catch the spillage. Not a rediculous amount of fuel anyway. Radion
I just cut mine, the rubber was too hard and cracked to reuse anyway. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/402611-fuel-filter-hose-not-coming-off/#findComment-6406562 Share on other sites

Radion
Just get a Ryco fuel filter about $20 for autobarn, i think the model number is Z200 or Z201. In my opinion if you have lots of fuel line and fuel filter hasn't been changed in god knows how long, just cut it and dont try pull it off cause it'll take a long time and the rubber might be dried up anyway lol. Dont waste your money on "performance" fuel filters. The OEM is $40bucks i think but is exactly the same as the Ryco. xanavinismo
Good tip to remove stubborn hoses is spray them with some WD40, wait a couple of minutes and they slip right off +1, that made it sooo much easier for me Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/402611-fuel-filter-hose-not-coming-off/#findComment-7386634 Share on other sites
