the H80/100 does have the great feature of not hitting ram sticks lolz.

Had to adjust the fan height on my Hyper 212 to clear my RAM sticks, there would have been much raging had I not been able to.

HAF 932 / X cases have perfect mounting points for the self enclosed loops too ;)

  • 1 month later...

Ok so a bit of an update.

Needed to either buy a new CPU cooler or change the RAM. Either was going to cost me at least $100+ and used RAM isn't worth much so it'd have to be CPU cooler which is around $130.

My case didnt have room to mount the H100 internally (radiator). I also needed room for some more HDD's now that one bay is taken up by a SSD which has cut down my storage noticeably... So i spat the dummy and went a bit nuts.

New case: Corsair 800D

Watercooling kit: XSPC Raystorm 750 RX360

Cost: $550

I won't cool the videocard at this stage at it's actually not that noisy and I've no need to overclock it. So in 12 months when I upgrade and then really get solid with some GPU overclocks on a new card and add in another stage.

The result of this should be a much quieter PC overall as my CPU & case fans were reasonably noisy on full song so with a triple core radiator I should be able to overclock the CPU to 5ghz and still keep temps well under control as well as not needing to have my fans going as hard :)

I might also look to watercooling my server actually as the Perc 5/i RAID card I have gets pretty hot so the fan needed to keep it cool is also quite loud. Given I'm looking to put a 2nd Perc 5/i server together as well... It'll be a bit absurd I'm thinking.

Should probably update the title to be $2200 as that's roughly the total cost now haha.

Also if anyone wants a Noctua NH-D14 CPU Cooler that is brand new in box - $50 + delivery. I can add in some upgraded fans if people want (i have some spares). Will cost whatever else on top - v.cheap :)

f**k me, what an utter kent of a job. The XSPC mounting system for the waterblock is in short, a MASSIVE pain in the arse. It's just not user friendly at all.

Also the pump which is internally mounted to the reservoir - is making some bad noises already but it was meant to be fixed with the product/model revision... Clearly that hasn't occurred so I'm going to have to warranty that part of it :(

Otherwise the 800D is a bloody awesome case in summary.

In detail:

They have thought of everything and i honestly cannot fault it for the money. Triple radiator fits in the top with absolute ease, even with 3 fans mounted. Its a slight bit tight getting the mobo in, but really it's a 5 second issue so it's of no concern.

The hot-swap bays are also very cool and make cabling/connecting the HDD's really really easy.

It's just really fken big is the only comment lol. I'll have to buy a new desk as it doesnt fit in the hole anymore... I needed to anyway so again not a problem as such, i might even build myself one this time so it's exactly how i want it.

The only downside is the same as every other case - the front bays where you put a DVD/fan controller - those shit locking clips just don't hold anything in. They never do on any case I've seen/used unless you go and hard screw them in. So that's a bit disappointing and i'll have to drill some holes on the right side of the case trays to 100% affix stuff so it doesnt move.

Oh and watercooling - fken awesome.

Temps are sitting between 15-18 degrees and it's about 18 degee's in my place at the moment. Can't wait to see overclocking results once i warranty the pump

I meant 7/16" tube on 1/2" barb which is a way to not need clamps. 1/2" barbs are pretty standard and the compression fitting also come in 1/2".

The fittings nearly always G1/4 which is the defacto standard. Some companies have used 3/8 though and even fewer 10mm and so on.

No idea on the hose, just whatever came in the kit and i can't see anywhere that says clearly (with a 30 sec google).

Compression fittings either way, would make life a lot simplier is my point :)

I'd suggest replacing the kit hoses with some PrimoChill/ Flex 1/2" ones, they're softer and easier to remove. Did one of my builds using XSPC's 3/8" kit tubing and even with 3/8" compression fittings removing them was near darn impossible.

    • Ha, well, it's been.... a bit of a journey. Things have taken much longer than I'd hoped. I'll probably put up a thread at some stage. Hopefully soon. The car's not done any kms since my update in June though, put it that way.
    • Here's the chart for fuel pressure vs. current draw, assuming your base fuel pressure is 3 bar and you run like 0.5bar boost on WOT, you should only momentarily hit 9amps here and there. (Ignore my prev post, I cannot read a chart these days it seems)
    • Those comp test results are not hideous. Whether they are accurate or not (ie, when that comp tester says 140 psi, is the real pressure120, 140 or 160?) is unknown to us. The state of the battery used to crank it over is unknown, etc etc. Many people around here would say that the absolute values and the spread are perfectly fine to just add boost and keep going. I personally would be happier with a narrower spread than that, but even the diff between 125 and 145 is not terrible. That one cylinder at 125 though, has probably copped some damage relative to the others. You should inspect the valves seeing as you've got it open. Do you know how to measure installed ring gaps? That, and an inspection of the rings themselves, is how you will determine whether they need to be replaced. If you're not good to do these things, take the block and the pistons and rings to a shop that is, and ask them for the go/no-go on them. Do the bores need a hone at all? If so, you might well be justified in getting some different pistons in order to get away from the ring supply problem. Whether you're happy to spend a lot more money right now, on more gear, rather than less money, but an amount that looks stupid given that you will only get a handful of rings in exchange for that money, is for you to decide.
    • also possibly backed up to my filler and shat down it! 🤣
    • Ok so i would love some advice here please, i purchased an R33 a few months back and its had a few mods done to the engine, its an RB25det running a Master ECU, 1200cc injectors, bigger turbo, oil cooler, oil filter relocation kit, Spool H-beam rods, acl/ross pistons. When i removed the motor from the vehicle (as its getting a respray) i thought i would compression test it and these are the following results. Cylinder 1-145psi, Cylinder 2-143psi, Cylinder 3-125psi, Cylinder 4-145psi, Cylinder 5-140psi, Cylinder 6-135psi this test was done with the motor on the ground and powering up the starter motor. I dropped the sump and found broken oil squirters on cylinder 3,5 and 6. I was told my rings are probably worn so i stripped the motor completely to get a new set of rings for it. The trouble is no one has these rings anywhere and they have to be custom made by Ross over in the states and will cost about $600+$200 delivery. My question is how can i tell if my rings are at fault and if they are still ok and is this price ok for a set of rings?
