Hey guys, I'm in the process of buying a Z32 300zx and yesterday it failed a RWC. The guy that looked at it noted these issues:

Front pads

Rear Pads

Inner Control Arm Bushes (front)

Oil leaks

Hicas light on

Now, I went out and had a look at the car today, there are no actual oil leaks, it was just oil leftover from a transmission service that got spilled.

The pads needs changing.

The inner control arm bushes were a tad worn but he got a pen, stuck it in there and dug it out!

So, I'm going to have the oil wiped up, I'll put new pads and bushes in it and I'll get rid of the hicas bulb (hicas has been removed from the car).

What I was wondering is, do I need to take it back to the same guy to get it inspected? The certificate says present for reinspection within 14 days. Can I get it fixed and take it elsewhere or what?

Anyone know of a workshop close to Manly that can do this stuff quickly? Any advice is appreciated.

Cheers

Ok mate, cheers.

Anyone know of a bloke who'll be a bit lenient? As I said, the inner control arm bushes aren't ruined and the oil leak is non existent.

I'll put new pads on it but the other issues are really nit picking shit.

If I was you I would still get someone to do a proper roadworthy. If there is no oil leak and the bushes aren't as bad as he reckons, then taking it to another shop with new brake pads and hicas bulb removed you should not have any problems getting it to pass properly?

I'll have to put new bushes in it now coz he damaged one with a pen.

The rest of the car is very clean. I would just like someone else who isn't picky to do it after I've replaced those things, because paying $100 a pop for failed road worthies will get old soon. I'll replace that shit and get the bloke that looked at it yesterday to come back and see the receipts.

let me put it to you like this. The suspension bushes support the wieght and forces of the car. If he can damage one with a pen......one feels they may actually be spooned. I suggest getting it all fixed and returning to the same guy, as he will usually just check the items on your list.

The whole car has urethane bushes throughout apart from those ones. They are getting replaced next week.

as above, if he could ruin a bush with a pen then it was already cactus.

as for the rest of it, if you have already paid for the roadworthy with that guy then you should just take it back with those things fixed, as i was under the impression that you didn't have to pay a second time for it. so if that's correct, you have the option of fixing the things and getting the rwc for what you have already paid, or paying a second time to possibly have the car failed for something else by a different workshop.

if you went through a RWC by workshop "X" then it MUST be re-inspected by the same workshop.

and they can ONLY recheck the items they marked as a FAIL in the first inspection.

and there is no second cost.

Now that you have had the car inspected, if you don't fix those things within 14 days and have the same place inspect, they are requierd by law to forward the details of your car to QLD Transport where they will cancel the rego (if it is currently registered).

you can get the faults fixed elsewhere if you want, but it must be re-inspected by the same place.

Are you 100% sure on this!?!?

My 180 failed RWC yesterday.. and they wanted $3000 to fix a small leak in the steering rack and replace some coilovers which apparently were leaking (only a tiny bit). I'm selling the car for $5500. NO WAY. So, I asked the shop if I was fine to go and take it to somewhere else to get a roady and they said that I can do whatever I like. I could take it to anyone I want to get another RWC. Please confirm if what you say is true. FIrst thing in the morning it is going to someone else to get a roadworthy because it needs to be ready by Saturday (a friendlier guy who is serious.. but not worried about these things).

I don't want to have the people that bought my car come back to me next week saying they don't have rego.

Please confirm. thanks.

3k to fix power steering leak and coil overs leak BAHAHAHAHHA wtf who the f**k was that through WOW, mate simple before taking the car back for reinspection degrease it down and then take it back. they will only fail you on a leak if they see it.

TTT is on the money.

Notice he wrote 're-inspect'. You can take it somewhere else but it'll be the new fee for inspection. Re-inspection is under the original RWC fee which is why you have a limited time to get it back to them.

I'd take it back just with the new pads, if they're busy they may not even bother putting it on the hoist again.

Haven't seen this for ages. The car was passed by someone else, these pricks were scammers. They wanted another fee for a second inspection, so I fixed what needed to be fixed and got it roadworthied elsewhere.

The car has been registered for a while now and I haven't received any letters notifying me of cancelled rego.

In any event, I have the receipts for the repairs, so if qld transport do cancel it, I'll have no dramas getting it back on the road.

Hey guys, i'm moving to Brisbane in about a week.i had my GTR stolen 2 weeks ago here in melbourne so ill likely be buying a new one down here and driving up (or buying one up their, i want to avoid the latter as it seems the market is much better for the buyer down here). IS QLD usually anal with RWC inspections?

Depends on where you take it. I know a guy that is over the top anal with his inspections and I also know a guy that was a little dodgy and got stung so is now fair, not to harsh but wont let you get away with dangerous stuff. But in the end if there is nothing wring it will pass no worries.

depends on the inspector. the one who does mine is a bit anal on things but it is worth it for me as i get told about the under side in deatial and what needs doing.

    • The ABS and/or TCS being missing/broken will not cause the engine to misbehave. It just casues CEL to come on and annoy you. The CEL is useless if it is always on, so you have to do the things you have to do to get rid of it, so it can be useful. Being a Stag ECU, then yes, it will not expect TCS to be present. But it will expect ABS to be present and working. You will need to either make the ABS CU talk to the ECU (don't ask me what that will take on an NA R34), and make sure the hardware is working....or, you just need to blank it out in Nistune. Do not persist with the stock ECU. You will just have problems. Gte it Nistuned. Start from there. DO YOU HAVE A BOOST SENSOR? The ECU's boost sensor that it. It is connected to the loom at the rear of the coil cover. Usually rides on the firewall on an R34, but is usually bolted down to a bracket along with all the other crap at the back of the coil cover when a Neo is dropped into another car. If you do not have it, the ECU will shit the bed. So, do you have one?
    • So sadly the fuel pump etc was not it. The pump and filter is new and it is still cutting around 4000 rpm. A read something about ABS/TCS (engine is from stagea and ECU too so no TCS) and i dont know for 100% that my car has ABS. It has ABS "cube" in engine bay but i dont think it works(or at least from my braking experience). Can be something like that?  I will be driving the car next week to Nistune tuner to properly see what is wrong...
    • the Tomei LSD fluid with lsd kit. frustrated that it was shaking the car to crap and affecting everything else negatively, I pulled the diff last night, and removed the lsd carrier, could not find anything wrong, however it seem to be 100 locked up acceleration, and deacceleration, wondering if they sent me a 2 way not a 1.5??  either way I installed the stock open carrier back in place. test drove everything smooth as butter again. no shake, shutter, random, what felt like clutch slip and grab or drive shaft play, etc. something differently wrong in side the lsd. I might bother taking it apart (if possible) to figure out what's going on inside this carrier, as bought too long ago to return.  only draw back is its back to a one wheel wonder.
